The proposed method uses a median filter to reduce the variance of the estimated modes. The signal utilized for estimating the modes is the power signal obtained from phasor measurement units (PMUs). The results with the proposed method has been compared with an improved Prony based method on a test signal at different noise levels. Estimation of modes has also been carried out on a 2-area system using the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":177545,"journal":{"name":"IEEE PES General Meeting","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125313295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Delayed tripping of an AC field circuit breaker can allow faster reduction of generator field current in some circumstances. Faster reduction of generator field current will reduce the energy in a short circuit and consequently reduce the damage caused by the short circuit. This paper describes a case study examining the issues associated with the decision to delay tripping of AC field circuit breakers.","PeriodicalId":177545,"journal":{"name":"IEEE PES General Meeting","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125328683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result of preliminary research, initial power demand model of high energy consumer is built up based on data mining. Such a model opens out the relationship of power demand and market factors, which can be applied to demand side management (DSM) for high energy consumers under Chinese market environment. A power demand forecasting method based on consumer classification and high energy consumer demand model is proposed. Such a model can also be applied to strategy making in DSM. Case study is carried out with real-life data from Guiyang city power grid where a large percentage of power demand is that from high energy consumers mainly consisting of phosphor plants and electrolytic aluminum plants. Case study results shows that demand forecasting precision is improved significantly and quantitative DSM strategies for high energy consumers can be made based on the proposed model.","PeriodicalId":177545,"journal":{"name":"IEEE PES General Meeting","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115356854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A simple heuristic, using a relaxed network model associated with cost perturbation, is applied to generate a set of high quality initial solutions with different topologies. The population is evolved using a multi-move path-relinking with the objective of finding minimum investment cost for the transmission expansion planning problem employing the DC representation. The algorithm is tested on the southern Brazilian system, obtaining the optimal solution for the system with better performance than similar metaheuristics algorithms applied to the same problem.","PeriodicalId":177545,"journal":{"name":"IEEE PES General Meeting","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116174996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the proposed disaggregation framework, we use three advanced disaggregation algorithms, called Committee Decision Mechanisms (CDMs), to perform load disaggregation at the metering level. Three random switching simulators are also developed to investigate the performance of different CDMs under a variety of scenarios. Through Monte Carlo simulations, we demonstrate that all CDMs outperform any single-feature, single-algorithm based disaggregation methods. With sensitivity analysis, we also show that the CDMs are less sensitive to any load dynamics and noise. We finally demonstrate some applications of this technology in terms of appliance usage tacking and estimated energy consumption of each appliance.","PeriodicalId":177545,"journal":{"name":"IEEE PES General Meeting","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116552205","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Over the course of this period, interior permanent magnet synchronous machines (IPMSM) have expanded their presence in specialized niche automotive markets for energy-efficient electric traction drives for the latest generation of hybrid-electric vehicles (HEV). Power ratings of available IPM motors and self-charging and/or plug-in IPM generators have dramatically increased by approximately few orders of magnitude during this period. Closer examination reveals that several different knowledge-based technological advancements and market forces have combined, sometimes in fortuitous ways, to accelerate the development of the impressive IPMSM drives technology. The purpose of this paper is to provide a broad explanation of the various factors that lead to the current state-of-the-art IPM technology, and to illustrate its application success in the automotive industry and railway.","PeriodicalId":177545,"journal":{"name":"IEEE PES General Meeting","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122937986","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Canada, most utilities have initiatives in this area, with the aim to assess the impact on their electric grid of the wide scale deployment of these vehicles. There is also a significant interest on the part of international car manufacturers to supply vehicles to the local market, and on the part of equipment manufacturers to develop specialized components for this market. This paper summarizes the Canadian initiatives undertaken by utilities, in collaboration with car manufacturers, and by governments and government laboratories, and other stakeholders.","PeriodicalId":177545,"journal":{"name":"IEEE PES General Meeting","volume":"283 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114175900","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A key feature is a grouped connection offer process that provides certainty for wind project developers and optimises the development of the network. A further interesting feature is the development of a “wind cluster” concept which permits semi-dedicated MV networks for the connection of a group of adjacent wind farms, together with equitable arrangements for sharing the financial burden of construction between developers.","PeriodicalId":177545,"journal":{"name":"IEEE PES General Meeting","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121928795","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
