Nguyen","doi":"10.1109/PES.2010.5589574","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/PES.2010.5589574","url":null,"abstract":"In the context of modeling in the phase-domain multi-conductor distributed-parameter transmission circuit for electromagnetic transient analysis performed in the discrete time domain, the paper develops a method based on passive network synthesis for representing the nonlinear frequency dependence of the characteristic impedance matrix function. The synthesized passive network of interconnected RLC elements preserves at any frequency the inherent stability property of this matrix function for any power transmission circuit. The network parameters are identified using the constrained optimization by which the synthesized network response is matched with the actual response derived from the characteristic impedance matrix. With the trapezoidal rule of numerical integration applied to individual elements of the synthesized network, discrete time-domain recursive sequences are derived, and then included in the overall transmission circuit model. Constrained Economic Dispatch Optimization Model (CEDOM) has been performed by utilizing wind power every 10 minutes. We illustrate the results of such economic dispatch on NPCC power system where seasonal wind and load power variations are considered in the CEDOM over three days in different seasons. Analysis of the most congested hour has been investigated and effects of congestion on Locational Marginal Price (LMP) are discussed. Finally, we study the sensitivity of LMP to net power injections and line flows by comparing CEDOM results using AC Optimal Power Flow (ACOPF) with DCOPF. Decentralized power sharing or power management can be improved significantly with low bandwidth communication. Utility intranet or a dedicated web based communication can serve the purpose. The effect of network parameter such line impedance, R/X ratio on decentralized power sharing can be compensated with correction in the decentralized control reference quantities through the low bandwidth communication. In this paper, the possible improvement is demonstrated in weak system condition, where the micro sources and the loads are not symmetrical along the rural microgrid with high R/X ratio line, creates challenge for decentralized control. The distribution system is, therefore facing new challenges on its dynamic behavior with the addition of new dynamic devices. This paper investigates the small signal stability of renewable energy based distribution system. The distribution system is fed by synchronous, induction and static generators. The voltage controlled and power factor controlled operations of the synchronous generator are also considered. The results showed that wind generator dynamics are very significant in the system oscillations. The solar PV generator improves the small signal behavior of the system. The impact of penetration of renewable energy resources on a system is demonstrated through eigenvalue analyses. This paper addresses a method to implement the polar form algorithms with the common rectangular form complex number, which is abstracted as real and imaginary parts. The key points of the addressed method are to express the derivatives to polar components under rectangular coordinates, and to rotate and stretch a complex number under rectangular coordinates. The proposed method which is based on the concept of adaptive notch filter (ANF), adaptively decomposes the measured power signal into its constituting components independent of where their frequencies are located. The algorithm provides instantaneous values of the various estimated frequency components in addition to the values of their frequencies, amplitudes and phase angles. The structure and mathematical formulation of the proposed technique including guidelines for its parameter tuning are presented and its performance is studied in a variety of scenarios where the power signal attributes such as fundamental frequency and amplitude undergo variations over time. This study confirms the desirable transient and steady-state performances of the proposed method. Therefore, wind turbines are also coupled to the transmission grid instead of the distribution grid. Problems arise during grid faults as the behaviour of wind turbines equipped with doubly-fed induction generators differs fundamentally from traditional synchronous generators. The short-circuit behaviour is vital for protection issues. A distance relaying problem in a Belgian grid topology is emphasized and studied. This study concludes that the distance relay is not performing correctly in case of three phase faults. System design and component selection is elaborated for motor drive system using both topologies. Power loss and reliability is also estimated for comparison purpose. Fault tolerant control is a feature for both motor drive system and is discussed and compared in detail.
