It has come to the stage to bring modal information into real-time power system operation. This paper proposes to establish a procedure for Modal Analysis for Grid Operations (MANGO). Complementary to PSS and other traditional modulation-based control, MANGO aims to provide suggestions such as redispatching generation for operators to mitigate low-frequency oscillations. Load would normally not be reduced except as a last resort. Different from modulation-based control, the MANGO procedure proactively maintains adequate damping at all times, rather than reacting to disturbances when they occur. The effect of operating points on small-signal stability is presented in this paper. Implementation with existing operating procedures is discussed. Several approaches for modal sensitivity estimation are investigated to associate modal damping and operating parameters. The overall plant comprises the PV module, battery bank, MPPT module, controller, inverter and a resistive load. The load is supplied by both the PV and the battery bank. The fluctuations in the output of the PV module are controlled and held at maximum power output by the MPPT module. The battery controller is included to control the charging and discharging of the battery. The overall plant model is an integration of individual PV, MPPT, controller, inverter, battery and load models. The proposed model is used to determine the voltage, current and power at the maximum power point and then investigate the quality of voltage available at load terminals for different operating scenarios. The plant model has been found to be accurate to reflect satisfactorily the system behaviour for different loads as well as for different solar irradiance values. More accurate data logging and reporting, especially in the newly adopted object oriented based communication protocols such as IEC 61850, allows for more efficient analysis and interpretation of the state of the network. This paper explores one of such applications that arise from employment of the standard IEC 61850 in substations. It is proposed here that the integrity of the data available from across the substation can be verified using the quality and validity data available from different devices and control/protection functions in the substation. A fuzzy cognitive map is used here that derives relationships and associations between various functions within the substation and determines a level of confidence on the data available. The volume of significant events that occur in a multi-area interconnected power system has become enormous to an extent that system operators need intelligent systems to support them in decision making. This paper presents an implementation of complex event processor (CEP) for processing high level power system events from the perspective of a multi-area system. The definition and modeling of basic and complex high level events is carried out and an event processing engine is employed to process data streams in real time to detect the occurrence of the events. Online real time data on the high voltage Indian national grid is used in this paper for driving the CEP system with the objective of detecting the occurrence of complex events. In this scheme, reserved control code group K28.6 in Ethernet physical coding layer is used as PPS positive edge transferred with preemptive priority in both ringlets of RPR. And a compensation algorithm is applied to balance out the propagation delay. And tolerance analysis and hardware design were presented in the paper. Simulation results indicate PPS distribution precision is up to nanoseconds level. By comparing and investigating the waveforms of remote short-circuit current with and without skin effect, the paper pointed out the difference between these two currents. This paper presents an OPF formulation with a composite dynamic load models which is a composite of ZIP and induction motor loads. An improved locational marginal price (LMP) decomposition model for this formulation is also given, which can effectively decompose the LMP into three components. The designed MAS is based on the human Immune System (IS) behavior in which different cells interact in order to heal the body. The proposed MAS is able to detect and isolate faults, reconfigure and restore power to the healthy loads and perform load shedding when necessary. The MAS system is implemented in microcontroller hardware and deployed on a power system testbed. The prototype is based on a shipboard power system and it is built for real time testing and development of Multi-agent systems.
