Methods: Adequate amount of cord blood was taken from 96.9% of the cases, the successful culture rate was 99.2%. In seven cases the procedure was repeated as the culture was unsuccessful in two of them and maternal contamination was observed in five of them. There was no fetal loss among the 251 cordocentesis cases, but it must be taken into account that 62.2% of these patients were referred to our clinic so that their pregnancy outcomes could not be obtained. The most common complications were intraamniotic bleeding in 6.8% and transient fetal bradycardia in 6.3% of the cases. According to cytogenetic evaluation reports, chromosomal abnormality was detected in 13 cases (5.17%). One case with short femur had a karyotype of 47,XX,t(8;14) (p22;q21),+der(14)(8;14) and one case with single umblical artery having a karyotype of 46,XX,del(3)(p25pter) was described for the first time in the literature. Results: Data including the indications, cytogenetic results and complications was obtained from 251 pregnancies who underwent cordocentesis in a University clinic. Conclusion: Cordocentesis is an invasive prenatal diagnostic and therapeutic procedure with high accuracy and safety if it is carried out by highly skilled physicians and when optimal culture conditions are provided.","PeriodicalId":174635,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turkish Society of Obstetric and Gynecology","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127397878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are different kinds of birth control that act at different points in the process. The rapid increase in the world population makes it mandatory to develop new contraceptive methods. According to WHO data, every year 200 billion new pregnancies occur and more than 50 billion of them are classified as unintended. To avoid complications of these unintended pregnancies and abortions, the contraception and kinds of contraceptive methods should be well known and understood. Recently, new hormonal contraceptive choices and regimen were adminestered and studies about male contraception and immunocontraception were performed. Design: Data from the files of the patients operated for uterin myomata were obtained and assessed. The cases operated directly with abdominal hysterectomy were excluded. Setting: Abant Izzet Baysal University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Bolu Patients: A total of 44 patients who admitted outpatient clinic of gynecology with the diagnosis of uterine myomatas and elected for laparoscopic surgical procedure. Interventions: Laparoscopic and laparoscopically assisted myomectomy. Main Outcome Measures: The association of surgical technique with patients’ age, body mass index, parity, the size and number of myomas, intraoperative time, aspirated blood volume, intraoperative and postoperative complications and time of hospital stay. Results: No significant difference were found between both groups in patient demographics, body mass index, intraoperative complications and hospitalization day. The size and number of myomas were significantly higher in laparoscopy assisted myomectomy group than the laparoscopic myomectomy group,respectively (58,0 ± 9,6 vs 51,45 ± 8,0, p<0.05; 1,79 ± 0,76 vs 1,45 ± 0,58 p<0.05). Operation time and aspirated blood volume were significantly higher in laparoscopic myomectomy group than the laparoscopy assisted myomectomy group . (105±15 vs 68, ± 14 p<0.05; 372 ± 65 vs 266 ± 52 p<0.05). Conclusion: The collected data in our research did not show a superiority for laparoscopic myomectomy over laparoscopic assisted myomectomy. However, after obtaining the surgical instrumentation such as faster morcellators which decrease operation time and gaining surgical expertise, laparoscopic myomectomy will be a good surgical alternative to laparoscopically assisted myomectomy.","PeriodicalId":174635,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turkish Society of Obstetric and Gynecology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127437344","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and methods: Thirty subjects with SUI and 30 subjects without SUI were compared in terms of elastosonographic suburethral tissue elasticity. SUI and bladder neck hypermobility was determined by pad test, Q-tip and stress tests. Measurements points included under bladder (UB), subcutaneous fatty tissue (SC), and the urethra (U) points. Three indices were calculated using these measurements (UB/SC, U/SC and UB/U). The diagnostic value of ES indices were investigated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses. Results: ES UB/SC (AUC=0.962, P=0.001) and U/SC (AUC=0.953, P=0.001) were significant predictors for stress test positivity. ES UB/SC (AUC=0.883, P=0.001) and U/SC (AUC=0.885, P=0.001) were significant predictors for pad test positivity. ES UB/SC (AUC=0.877, P=0.001) and U/SC (AUC=0.857, P=0.001) were significant predictors for Q tip test positivity. In linear regression analysis, stress test positivity was significantly associated with the ES UB/SC (R2=0.84, beta=0.369, P=0.026) and ES U/SC (R2=0.84, beta=0.496, P=0.003). Conclusion: Elastosonographic tissue elasticity determination is a promising tool in bladder neck hypermobility and SUI diagnosis, and may be used as an adjunctive method in selecting patients appropriate for stress urinary incontinence surgery.","PeriodicalId":174635,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turkish Society of Obstetric and Gynecology","volume":"159 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133966875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and methods: Twenty-eight patients with PCOS diagnosis according to the criteria of 2003 Rotterdam Concensus Conference on PCOS were included in this study and twenty-seven healthy women were included as control group. After collecting first morning urine samples of patients and women in control group, the urinary 8-OHdG level were measured by LC-MS/MS method and the results were expressed as nmol/L. 8-OHdG/creatinine ratio (nmol/mol) was used to compensate the variation of all nucleoside concentration in urine. The patients with PCOS and the control group were compared in terms of the 8-OHdG/creatinine ratio. Results: Statistically, there was not a significant difference between the patients with PCOS and the control group in terms of the 8-OHdG/creatinine ratio (p= 0.533). Conclusion: According to our research, due to an increase of antioxidant and DNA repair capacity, the urinary 8OHdG/creatinine ratio as a determinant of oxidative stress in patients with PCOS was not different from the level analyzed in healthy women.","PeriodicalId":174635,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turkish Society of Obstetric and Gynecology","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131877602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, the incidence of endometriosis was evaluated in the study population. Material and methods: Medical records of 139 women who were underwent L/S for the investigation of the tubal occlusion were reviewed retrospectively. The concordance rate between the HSG and L/S was investigated. The incidence of endometriosis in patients with no tubal pathology was compared with patients with unilaterally and bilaterally tubal occlusion. Results: Mean age of the women was 31.8±5.7years, mean BMI was measured as 24.6±4.6 kg/m2, and gravida 0 (05), mean infertility period was 30.7±3.7 months. Tubal occlusion was confirmed after the L/S in 38.8% of the patients (n=38) who has unilaterally tubal occlusion on the HSG. However, 58.8% (n=20) of the patients who were diagnosed as bilaterally tubal occlusion on the HSG was confirmed with the L/S. The misdiagnosis rate of the HSG was significantly high in women with unilaterally tubal occlusions compared with bilaterally tubal occlusions [(respectively, 61.2%, 51.2%) (p:0.001)]. Endometriosis was observed in 28.4% of the patients who had patent tubes and in 13.9% of the patients in the unilaterally tubal occlusion group and and in 22.7% of the patients in the bilaterally tubal occlusion group. But the difference was not statistically significant when groups were compared according to the rate of endometriosis (p=0.24). Material and methods: Between January 1990 and December 2004, 149 patients with malign epithelial ovarian tumor were included to this study. Age, parity, primary complaint and postoperative histopathology, surgical stage and maximal diameter of residual tumor of the patients were obtained and factors that effect overall survival were evaluated. Results: Mean age of the patients was 52.8 ± 13 years. Most of the patients were multipar (85.9%) and most fruquent (n: 88) (59.1%) complaint was abdominal swelling. Postoperative surgical stages were stage I in 24 (16.1%), stage II in11 (7.4%), stage III in 87 (58.4%) and stage IV in 27 (18.1%) patients. Maximal diameter of residual tumor was 0.05). The mean overall survival of the patients with maximal residual tumor size ≤1 cm, >1cm and no residual tumor were obtained to be 54.8 months, 22.7 months and 43.5 months respectively (p<0.001). According to the surgical stages I,II,III and IV mean survival was 78.5 months, 60.1 months, 33.9 months and 16.1 months respectively and significantly different (p<0.001).
