Material and methods: The data obtained from 223 patients, admitted to tertiary care center that underwent vaginal hysterectomy due to benign pathology between January 2006 and March 2012 were retrospectively analyzed .Chisquare test was used to evaluate variables in categorized groups. Results: Group variables occurred age, number of pregnancies and abortion, parity, stage according to pelvic organ prolapse classification (POP-Q), periods of hospitalization and urinary catheterization. The main complications were hemorrhage, febrile morbidity and vaginal vault prolapse. Advanced age (> 60), pelvic prolapse, long-term hospitalization and urinary catheterization, were predisposing factors for the presence of complications. Conclusion: Vaginal hysterectomy is a safe and effective method, although not completely devoid of intraoperative or postoperative complications. Advanced age (> 60), POP-Q stage 3-4 pelvic prolapse, prolonged hospitalization and urinary catheterization were seem to be predisposing conditions for the existence of complications. Appropriate preoperative planning and meticulous postoperative care may be helpful to reduce the rate of complications.","PeriodicalId":174635,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turkish Society of Obstetric and Gynecology","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122962866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hysterectomy may be an option particularly in patients who do not wish to preserve fertility. Although chemotherapy regimes are very effective for the treatment of malignant gestational trophoblastic neoplasia, hysterectomy and extirpation methods also play an important role especially in reducing the amount of chemotherapy and in cases exhibiting drug-insensitive diseases or hemorrhagic complications. This review discusses the indications and the role of surgical interventions during the medical management of women with hydatidiform moles and malignant gestational trophoblastic neoplasia.","PeriodicalId":174635,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turkish Society of Obstetric and Gynecology","volume":"373 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122559029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, activated protein C resistance (APCR), protein C and S deficiency, antithrombin deficiency is important pathologies for RPL. In this study, our aim was to assess the role of thrombophilia parameters in RPL. Material and methods: 35 patients with RPL and 53 healthy control withot RPL were included in this study. Exclusion criterias of this study were uterin anomalies, chronic systemic disease, antiphospholipid and anticardiolipin antibodies entity that caused RPL. Results: There was no difference between two groups for ages. The mean pregnacy loss of 35 patients with RPL was 3.57 ± 1.54 (3-11 items). When patients were compared for the APC resistance, there was a significant difference between the groups. Although the values of protein C, protein S and antithrombin III were low, there was no statistically significant difference between groups. Conclusion: Thrombophilia including APC resistance, protein C and S deficiency, antithrombin deficiency is associated with RPL. Thrombophilia is consequential for the prognosis of pregnancy and is considered for the following of pregnancy in patients with pregnancy.","PeriodicalId":174635,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turkish Society of Obstetric and Gynecology","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115750029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The period from June 2009 to August 2010 was declared to be pandemy H1N1 by World Health Organization (WHO). In this study we aimed to assess the maternal and fetal outcomes of pregnant women with the diagnosis of H1N1viral infection, who were hospitalized during 2009 pandemy. Materials and methods: The clinical data, treatment modalities and maternal and fetal outcomes of 9 pregnant women with H1N1 infection were retrieved from patients file and evaluated retrospectively. Patients were classified as confirmed case if the nasopharyngeal swabs were pozitive with real time PCR (rRT-PCR) and suspected case if rRTPCR was negative. Findings: At admission one patient was in first trimester, 2 were in second trimester and other 6 patients were in third trimester. The presenting symptoms were cough (77%), fever (77%), sore throat (11%), dyspnea/respiratory distress (44%) and malaise (22%). All of the patients were treated with oseltamivir and with appropriate antibiotics in case of secondary bacterial pneumonia. Median hospitalisation time was 23 days (7-40). Five patients required mechanical ventilatory support. One of the patients and 2 of the neonates passed away. Conclusion: Although swine flu causes mild to moderate flu like symptoms in most of the population, in pregnant women it may lead to lethal complications. Thus the appropriate antiviral treatment should begin immediately within 48 hours.","PeriodicalId":174635,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turkish Society of Obstetric and Gynecology","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122087465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Plasma volume increases due to sodium and water retention during pregnancy and the second trimester of pregnancy it reaches the maximum level. At the first trimester of pregnancy, normal cardiac output increases by 30 to 40% and this condition causes significant hemodynamic changes in patients with mitral stenosis. Pulmonary edema occurs rapidly with high left atrial pressure due to increase of preload. ‹t is noted that acute pulmonary edema is the primary cause on maternal mortality in pregnant women with mitral stenosis . Clinical signs are becoming evident, especially after the 12th week. Despite the best conservative treatment, maternal and infant mortality can be seen.In this case, we present a rare occurrence of pulmonary edema following dispne due to mitral stenosis in a 19 years old pregnant at 29th week of the first pregnancy.","PeriodicalId":174635,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turkish Society of Obstetric and Gynecology","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128631194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data available over the years reveal that pathology is found among 55% of cases in women, 35% of cases in men and the remaining 10% of cases are defined as unexplained infertility. Male infertility is commonly due to deficiencies in the semen and semen quality is used as a surrogate measure of male fecundity. A semen analysis evaluates certain characteristics of a male's semen and the sperm contained in the semen. It should be the first laboratory investigation for men while evaluating a couple's infertility. Here, we tried to review the semen analysis as a very important laboratory investigation in evaluating the infertile couples with all points in the light of last published World Health Organization (WHO) criteria.","PeriodicalId":174635,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turkish Society of Obstetric and Gynecology","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126143166","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
