The ENTSO-E proposed for the Regional Group Continental Europe a general under frequency load shedding scheme, which must be implemented taking into account the individual features (properties) of the national network. Given that Policy 5 is an important document, the implementation of which is a prerequisite of security and system stability not only of a separate national grid, but also adjacent power systems, the authors aimed to test perspectives for UFLS development according to Policy 5 binding requirements in a case study for Ukrainian power system.","PeriodicalId":169630,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 7th International Conference on Energy Smart Systems (ESS)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133965042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since several alternative energy technologies have become commercially available, distributed generators are often of a renewable nature. This paper proposes a two-stage approach to determine optimal alternative electricity generation mix. An optimal composition and capacities of generation units of different types are determined by means of the simplex method. Alongside with that, the problems of power losses minimization and voltage stability of distribution networks are also addressed. A backward-forward sweep method is applied for optimal sizing and placement of distributed energy resources. The IEEE 33-bus test system is employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":169630,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 7th International Conference on Energy Smart Systems (ESS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134499942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unequal energy consumption on the shoulders of the power supply causes additional losses in the system and makes the voltage mode worse on the current collectors of electric locomotives. To increase the controllability of operation modes, is proposed to use feeder volt-additional converters with arcless commutation of short-circuit currents. Using such converters allow to stabilize the voltage on the current collectors of electric locomotives and reduce the switching-off time. Variant calculations using the proposed circuit engineering of traction substations on the simulation model prove that the power losses from the equalizing currents are significantly reduced","PeriodicalId":169630,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 7th International Conference on Energy Smart Systems (ESS)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130944871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A generalized quality criterion that allows us to evaluate not only quantitative but also qualitative characteristics of ESDs has been developed. A relatively accurate estimate is obtained in the form of a specific number (generalized desirability coefficient). For the first time, a method based on Harrington's desirability function for evaluating the quality of ESDs is proposed. The results of the work will allow us to evaluate and select the appropriate ESD or their combination in terms of efficiency and specificity of work on rolling stock.","PeriodicalId":169630,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 7th International Conference on Energy Smart Systems (ESS)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131979490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The parameters of the electric power quality are studied in the implementation of various modulation algorithms: level-shifted pulse width modulation and phase-level-shifted pulse width modulation. This paper assesses the reliability and performance improvement in medium voltage distribution networks after increasing the system automation by applying the fusesaver device on lateral line coordinated with the recloser device on the main feeder line. All nowadays applied advanced devices and previous solution scenarios are discussed and summarized through a critical literature review. The detailed methodology for the fusesaver coordinated implementation is explained. The evaluation can be achieved by calculating in a historical way the most common distribution system reliability indices, then a comparison between the case study results before and after fusesaver installation is presented. As a result, an enormous reduction occurred in outage frequency and duration, and the number of affected customers. Moreover, online monitoring of the line helped in estimating fault location and giving precise control decisions.","PeriodicalId":169630,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 7th International Conference on Energy Smart Systems (ESS)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114725373","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
