Bilenko","doi":"10.1109/ESS50319.2020.9160222","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ESS50319.2020.9160222","url":null,"abstract":"Ukraine Power Sector is facing the dramatic challenge - a necessity to essentially change its generating capacity structure caused by such main factors: the rapid implementation of intermittent renewables, mainly wind and solar; a high share of obsolete coal-fired thermal power plants, which are not suitable to provide flexibility to the power system; seasonally dependent and very limited water resources for hydro power stations which could provide constrained flexibility and also a high share of baseload nuclear in a generation mix. Another challenge is a high share of a total country's greenhouse gas emissions (about 68% of total Ukraine's GHG emissions) and a huge volume of hazardous air pollutions produced by thermal plants. These factors require a total redesign of current generating capacities to increase system flexibility to meet high renewables implementation volumes while decreasing GHG emissions and hazard pollutions. The easiest option is to implement flexible natural gas generation instead of inflexible coal-fired and nuclear generation, but due to a historically difficult situation with a natural gas supply, this option could potentially cause a negative influence on the country's energy security. We also should take into account an essential amount of investments required to implement a new generation and because of all these factors, the safest way could be keeping baseload nuclear generation, gradually decommissioning coal-fired generation and implementing technologies which are improving flexibility of the Power System, such as electric energy storages. To assess the amount of required installed capacity of electric energy storage in the Ukrainian Power System according to the scenarios of wind and solar implementation the mixed-integer linear programming mathematical model is proposed. Passive filters with an unchanged structure are less and less satisfying the requirements for maintaining the quality of electrical energy. As a result, power active filter compensating device are developed and implemented. In case of power supply voltage distortion, a series filter compensating device is used, which is connected to the network through a single-phase double-winding series voltage transformer. In the prior investigation it has been found, that during operation of the filter-compensating device the load current creates an additional voltage drop in the transformer winding. The use of a closed loop system does not compensate for said influence. Based on the results of automatic control system circuit analysis, the combined system is selected. Using the methods of automatic control theory, transfer functions necessary for the implementation of the combined control system are determined. Based on mathematical modeling methods, a model of a single-phase series active filter-compensating device has been created. As a result of the experiments, the coefficient of nonlinear distortion was reduced to 1.17%. Conclusions were drawn on the rationality of the proposed solution. The aim of the article is to build a mathematical model and create tools for assessing the impact of the penetration of renewable energy in the infrastructural system of the electricity market. The methodology of investigation is based on matrix modeling of multidimensional time series. Power generating units are grouped according to the technologies used for the production of electricity, forming the groups of generation sources. Such statistical indicators as the installed generating capacity of groups of generation sources, the amount of electricity generated by them, and the revenue from the sale of generated electricity were chosen as levels of multidimensional time series. The integral-matrix model of a multidimensional time series consists of a set of singular square matrices constructed at all levels of the time series. Each square matrix is obtained by multiplying the column matrix and the row matrix; their elements are, respectively, direct and inverse numerical values of sublevels of the embedded time series. As a result of algebraic operations on the elements of the square matrix, individual and integral indices of groups of sources of generation were obtained to assess changes in heterogeneity, monopolization, and concentration of chosen indicators. The calculation of the indices is based on the method of three mean values: harmonic mean, arithmetic mean and root mean square values. It is proposed to use these indicators for quantitative analysis of the penetration of renewable energy into the infrastructural system of the electricity market. In order to carry out tests, the implementation of the frequency response of a single area electric power system, including primary frequency control, is proposed. The electric power system was prepared to be implemented in the RT-Lab software that is compatible with MATLAB Simulink, in order to simulate in real-time with the Opal OP4510 device. Besides, the controller was designed in Simulink to be able to implement through the Arduino programming platform; they were also connected to work in HIL in RT. The results of the simulation and performance analysis show that for the case proposed with HIL, the primary control happens within a few seconds of the frequency variation. The control helps to reestablish the balance between the generated power and power demanded, thus stabilizing the system frequency. Generalized problem consideration based on Park equations set, written for the simple grid fragment with a nodal interconnection and complex load, has been appended with reduced EQSM model, representing the low frequency electromechanical oscillations in the case. The applicability of the approach is demonstrated in terms of comparative analysis and perceptual advantages of the reduced model proved: EPS stability assessment problem would be substantially softened due to the lower order of differential system. Around the world, one of the priority areas for reducing energy consumption is to increase the energy efficiency of energy-consuming equipment, processes and systems. Ukraine is no exception. Thus, the results of more than twenty energy audits of dairies in Ukraine, carried out with the participation of the author of this paper over the last five years, have shown that issues of energy conservation and modernization of the park of technological equipment for dairies are topical and, as far as possible, they are being resolved. At the same time, the dairies have a significant energy saving potential, the implementation of which is slowed down both due to financial constraints and due to the lack of sufficient knowledge among specialists and top management about the existing opportunities for improving energy efficiency and the optimal strategy for their implementation. Therefore, the purpose of this paper was to summarize the most priority energy-saving measures available at the dairies of Ukraine, as well as to propose and justify the mechanism for forming the optimal strategy for improving energy efficiency. The article shows that the decision-making process regarding the selection of the optimal strategy for implementing the energy-saving potential is multidimensional. It consists of evaluating various options for a strategy according to energy, economic, technical and environmental criteria.
