It shows Dutch protest music and its relationship to the changing political and social situation in the Netherlands over a period of fifty years, that is, from the 1960s to the first two decades of the 21st century.","PeriodicalId":168523,"journal":{"name":"Neerlandica Wratislaviensia","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115486236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two of them discuss the vowel variation in a Dutch patronym respectively in a substance name; the other two contain mini collections of metaphors concerning the human body and animal names. The whole is presented as a triptych with a predella as a tribute to the jubilee, whom this volume of Neerlandica Wratislaviensia is dedicated. In visual arts a predella being the base of an altarpiece, here it is the foot of the triptych of words and deals with the pseudonym ‘Martens’, Norbert Morciniec in 1985 used as the co-author of a concise dictionary Dutch-Polish / Polish-Dutch. This anonymous publication has been frequently – and incorrectly – presented as the oldest book in Afrikaans written by an author of colour. This contribution rectifies this misconception: discussing Benigna against its historical background, it introduces the text’s actual author as well specifies its language. Moreover, the article postulates that more attention in the history of South African literature should be paid to the religious literature of the Moravian Brethren.","PeriodicalId":168523,"journal":{"name":"Neerlandica Wratislaviensia","volume":"120 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125757920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They pose many difficulties for Polish students of Dutch. The article explains more thoroughly the types of separable constructions and the conventions that lead to their creation. Special attention is directed towards cases where the discontinuous forms interlock so that they come to a ‘clash’ of prepositions, e.g. Daar komt het op aan or Jacobs haalt het voorbeeld aan van de academische ziekenhuizen van Nijmegen en Duitsland. This accumulation of prepositions often leads to misunderstandings in the right tone of voice and Polish students’ interpretation of sentences. The correct formation of the interlocking structures is one of the most challenging skills with which the students learning Dutch will be confronted.","PeriodicalId":168523,"journal":{"name":"Neerlandica Wratislaviensia","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130563446","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After an introduction on when one can speak of Dutch as an independent language, the paper looks at how the Dutch themselves have defined their language and from when on there is a clear Dutch language community. In the following sections, the historical struggle against French, German and English infl uences is examined in its historical order. However, there is also an enunciative dimension (i.e. the relationship between the speaker and the subject of auditory perception) to be taken into account. Linguists divide the verbs of auditory perception into two groups according to cognitive criteria: verbs of passive and active perception. In Polish, many auditory perception verbs have a prefi x. In this article, we analyse how Polish passive auditory perception verbs and active auditory perception verbs are to be translated into Dutch.","PeriodicalId":168523,"journal":{"name":"Neerlandica Wratislaviensia","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132667634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ever since, students have seemed to be using it. \u0000This article seeks to answer the question of what use value dictionaries published nearly fifty years ago have. Dutch entries beginning with the letters E and F were analyzed. The research questions were: (1) Are these words still present in Dutch in 2022? (2) Has their form or meaning changed? The conclusions show that old dictionaries can still sometimes be helpful; however, it is better to use more up-to-date ones. This in no way undermines the role and importance of Professor Morciniec’s dictionary for the first Polish generations of Dutch speakers.","PeriodicalId":168523,"journal":{"name":"Neerlandica Wratislaviensia","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132230353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the hands of Dutch and Flemish authors of the third generation as well as writers who do not have a personal connection with the Holocaust, genres as diverse as the historical novel, picture books, the graphic novel, comic books and informational books have become the platform for creative engagement with the Shoah. In view of the growing temporal distance separating contemporary readers from the actual events of the Holocaust children’s literature, we saw its informative function being reinforced and revaluated. In this paper, I review Dutch and Flemish children’s literature about the Holocaust created in the 21st century. Special attention is paid to the literary methods and interventions used by authors in order to authenticate the narrative and frame it as non-fiction. These strategies demonstrate the further change in child images: the child is increasingly becoming a full-fledged participant in society and is as such entitled to historical truth, even if this truth is horrifying.","PeriodicalId":168523,"journal":{"name":"Neerlandica Wratislaviensia","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130698943","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its interpretation as an autobiography hinges on one’s understanding of the second-person point of view that makes up substantial parts of this novel. Multifocality of the “you” appears to be a key feature characterizing this little explored narrative mode in autobiography. Departing from structuralist narratology by Genette and Lejeune, I investigate reader-driven reading modes as elaborated by Fludernik, Bonheim, and Schmitt to explore how the deferred referentiality of the “you” blurs the traditional dichotomy between factual historical reality and the narrative world. The narrator involves the reader in interpreting the “you” to address both the narratee (Teirlinck) and the protagonist (Henri) at the same time.","PeriodicalId":168523,"journal":{"name":"Neerlandica Wratislaviensia","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124182891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
