This model is based on the band Jahn-Teller mechanism and explains the behaviour of c' and c44 consistently. The theory has been fitted to experimental results and the physical meanings of the parameters obtained are discussed.","PeriodicalId":16828,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Physics F: Metal Physics","volume":"92 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73353872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both Tmin and the depth of the minimum increase with x whereas a magnetic field as high as 39 kOe hardly changes either feature. This indicates that the origin of the resistivity minimum may be other than magnetic. The data below Tmin fit better with rho varies as ln T than rho varies as square root T. The magnetoresistance data seem to suggest the presence of both localisation and correlation effects. The high-field negative magnetoresistance in Fe80B20C0 varying as square root H is in quantitative agreement with the localisation picture.","PeriodicalId":16828,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Physics F: Metal Physics","volume":"2 1","pages":"2625-2633"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73037718","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The isothermal relaxation of the resistivity has been measured after restoring the equilibrium state of the sample at 1173 K and quasi-quenching down to 862, 880, 925 and 973 K. The experimental LRO relaxations in Ni3Al fitted first-order kinetic curves reasonably; however, while an exponential decrease of the resistivity was registered both at 862 and 880 K, an increase was observed at 925 and 973 K. The effect has been discussed within the model proposed by Rossiter (1979, 1980). The activation energy of the process was found to be approximately 3 eV which was in agreement with the previous data of diffusion and with the sum of vacancy formation and migration energies recently evaluated in Ni3Al.","PeriodicalId":16828,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Physics F: Metal Physics","volume":"1 1","pages":"2569-2575"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78515163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A simple method to calculate the electronic density of states is developed by making use of the coherent potential approximation and the recursion method by taking account of the randomness of atomic potentials and transfer integrals. This is a generalisation of the method developed previously. An application to calculate the density of states is given for Y(Mn-Co)2 Laves phase pseudobinary compounds by using the tight-binding d-band model.","PeriodicalId":16828,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Physics F: Metal Physics","volume":"842 1","pages":"2577-2581"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76965244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The atomic fraction cSi of silicon was between 0.076 and 0.103; the temperatures TA from which the specimens were quenched ranged from 723 K to 873 K. The observed (200) and (111) superlattice reflections are much sharper than those usually produced by short-range order. The experimental results are interpreted as follows. All specimens investigated have the DO3 superlattice. The long-range order parameter is always very close to the highest value possible at given cSi. The antiphase domains are very small. In most cases their diameter WD is below 5 nm. Only if cSi approaches the critical concentration, c*Si(TA), does WD become large. c*Si(TA) describes the alpha - alpha 2 phase boundary in the current Fe-Si phase diagram. The present results, however, preclude the interpretation of the function c*Si(TA) as a phase boundary; c*Si(TA) only has bearing on WD.","PeriodicalId":16828,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Physics F: Metal Physics","volume":"6 6 1","pages":"2513-2527"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77653408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chemical analysis X-ray diffraction, electron diffraction and transmission electron microscopy served to determine the composition and microstructure of the samples. The scattering contribution of the Au/Pd interfaces was estimated by taking into account the resistivity increase resulting from grain-boundary scattering. Two series of films were investigated, one with alternate Au and Pd layers of equal thickness and the other with constant Au layer thickness and increasing Pd layer thickness. In both series the same value for the interface scattering at the Au/Pd interfaces was found. The results were found to agree reasonably with previous results obtained on Au films.","PeriodicalId":16828,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Physics F: Metal Physics","volume":"47 1","pages":"2635-2647"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74437011","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was found that the profiles of the energy distribution curves are quite similar to those obtained in the XPS region and there is little difference in the spectral profile between liquid and solid phases. On melting the density of states at the Fermi level increases more than twice as much as in the solid phase. In both liquid and solid phases, the photoelectron spectra change their profiles associated with the 5d core electron excitation, which is attributed to the O4.5VV Auger electrons.","PeriodicalId":16828,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Physics F: Metal Physics","volume":"44 1","pages":"2617-2624"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89557208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Rietveld structure refinements show that the ferromagnetic phase is the cubic Laves phase ( alpha =90 degrees ), but the low-temperature antiferromagnetic phase below TN approximately=85 K is distorted to rhombohedral symmetry with alpha =90.20+or-0.01 degrees at 18 K. This distortion coincides with a discontinuity in cell volume at TN.","PeriodicalId":16828,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Physics F: Metal Physics","volume":"88 1","pages":"2499-2504"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75367080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The concentration of silver is 0.001 to 0.01 at.%. In contrast to previous experiments on the temperature dependence of surface resistivity, the surface resistivity affected by impurity scattering has a smaller value, and shows an excellent agreement with Fuchs-Sondheimer theory.
