Considering that the power quality requirements in different areas and for different consumers can be different, this paper implements a tertiary control over secondary and primary control levels so as to achieve optimal unbalance compensation control. Hardware-in-the-loop results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method.","PeriodicalId":168063,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 11th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD14)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130819750","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Baseline estimation techniques are often used to correct long term instrument contamination or degradation. They are essential for accurate peak area integration. Some methods approach the baseline estimation iteratively, trying to ignore peaks which do not belong to the baseline. The proposed method in this work consists of a modification of the Asymmetric Least Squares (ALS) baseline removal technique developed by Eilers and Boelens. The ALS technique suffers from bias in the presence of intense peaks (in relation to the noise level). This is typical of diverse instrumental techniques such as Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) or Gas Chromatography-Ion Mobility Spectrometry (GC-IMS). In this work, we propose a modification (named psalsa) to the asymmetry weights of the original ALS method in order to better reject large peaks above the baseline. Our method will be compared to several versions of the ALS algorithm using synthetic and real GC signals. Results show that our proposal improves previous versions being more robust to parameter variations and providing more accurate peak areas.","PeriodicalId":168063,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 11th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD14)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133832530","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to realize a huge amount of sensor nodes a single node must require minimal amount of energy for cost and uptime reasons. In this paper, a behavior adaptive routing protocol is presented which utilizes factory structures, resulting order relations, and application specific process data relevance to reduce energy requirements of nodes and increase their applicability. The reduction of data amount is realized by a parameter compressing data format and time-behavior adapted buffering. The reduction of number of transmissions is achieved by prevention of periodic updates and usage of echoes of other nodes. In order to react to dynamic environmental influences and energy fluctuations, sensor nodes improve their behavior. Change in behavior results from a compressed preference value. The accuracy of mapping of parameters to the preference is validated by several a priori rule checks and error adaptions.","PeriodicalId":168063,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 11th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD14)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130025337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the luminosity function of the human eye has to be adapted by a semiconductor sensor. This can be realized by a photodiode stack of 3 pn-junctions. The photo-generated currents were combined to a sensitivity response, which is adapted to luminosity function. This concept is verified by numerical simulations and measurements.","PeriodicalId":168063,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 11th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD14)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114390339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method is compared to the heuristic optimization method (PSO) and to bacterial foraging optimization (BFO) thereby to the traditional Ziegler-Nichols method. The results of PID-tuning are compared with the results of I, ID and PI controllers. The transient responses are shown due to step load disturbances in area-1. The main primary objective is to suppress all the fluctuations of the system frequency and tie line power flow.","PeriodicalId":168063,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 11th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD14)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114391136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Actually, the problem of data collection and the management of censored ones is one of the most important affecting both reliability, availability and safety analysis. Usually the design is based on a partial collection of biased and censored field data. To improve the predictions and make them more adherent to actual field system life, in this paper, the authors suggest to implement a simple homogeneous Markov model and compare the transition probabilities with the ones coming from a Hidden Markov Structure (HMS or HM Model). The results obtained allows for retrofitting the supposed system failure and repair rates. In this paper the classical Markov Model approach is presented and compared with the HMM one, on one simple and generalized example. In such framework, parameters apportionment, assumes the meaning of system parameters tuning based on the shop history outcomes to match actual system behavior.","PeriodicalId":168063,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 11th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD14)","volume":"20 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133002677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we present for the first time a performance comparison between Type II and Type III PLLs. The analysis is based on a powerful model previously presented by the authors. In particular the advantages of type III PLLs over type II to follow chirp signals, without compromising stability, are demonstrated. Approximated closed form expressions are proposed to evaluate Type III PLL performance.","PeriodicalId":168063,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 11th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD14)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133134243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each greenhouse is considered as a node in a wireless sensor network. A single-board microcontroller-based system has been designed and implemented to monitor and control several variables and maintain desired condition in each greenhouse. A rule-based fuzzy controller has been designed to control the microclimate of each greenhouse. The proposed system enables the farmer to monitor both the internal environment of the greenhouse. Also, the farmer can send commands to turn ON or OFF certain devices in a selected greenhouse through wireless communications. Simulated and real results have been achieved to demonstrate the system performance and real-time remote monitoring and control activities.","PeriodicalId":168063,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 11th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD14)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122316303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The increasingly complexity of microchips using a greater number of layers and logic gates makes this process unaffordable when using traditional methods that rely on human inspection and analysis. Therefore, digital image processing is presented as a fruitful field for automation. In this paper a system for the circuitry extraction, analysis and presentation is described. It is divided in three blocks: 2D Image Tiling, Logic Gates Localization & Recognition and Microchip Navigator. The paper presents an overview of the complete system and is mainly based on the description of the image processing algorithms that are applied to the different blocks such as image stitching, customized Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) and logic gate localization & recognition.","PeriodicalId":168063,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 11th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD14)","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124843046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
