Method: A total of 365 young amateur athletes, 108 males (29.6%) and 257 females (70.4%), with an average age of 16±54, participated in the research. \"Anxiety in Sports Scale\", \"Irrational Performance Beliefs Inventory-2\" and \"Personal Information Form\" created by the researcher were used to collect data in the research. The research data were analyzed using a statistical analysis program. Percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation and Pearson correlation test were used to evaluate the obtained data. Findings: According to the data obtained from the research results, it was determined that the scores obtained from the irrational performance beliefs inventory and anxiety in sports scale were above the average. It has been revealed that there is a significant relationship between the total score and sub-dimensions of the anxiety scale in sports and the total score and sub-dimensions of the irrational performance beliefs scale. Conclusion: According to the results obtained in this study, it was observed that young amateur athletes with high irrational performance beliefs also had high sports anxiety levels. (Extended English summary is at the end of this document) Özet Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı akıldışı performans inançları ile sportif kaygı arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesidir. Yöntem: Araştırmaya 108 erkek (%29.6), 257 kadın (%70.4) olmak üzere yaş ortalamaları 16±54 olan toplam 365 genç amatör sporcu katılmıştır. Araştırmada veri toplamak amacıyla “Sporda Kaygı Ölçeği”, “Akıldışı Performans İnançları Envanteri-2” ve araştırmacı tarafından oluşturulan “Kişisel Bilgi Formu” kullanılmıştır. Araştırma verilerinin istatistik analiz programı kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Elde edilen verilerin değerlendirilmesinde yüzdelik, aritmetik ortalama, standart sapma ve Pearson korelasyon testi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırma sonuçlarından elde edilen verilere göre akıldışı performans inançları envanteri ve Sporda kaygı ölçeğinden alınan puanların ortalamanın üstünde olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Sporda kaygı ölçeği toplam puanı ve alt boyutları ile akıldışı performans inançları ölçeği toplam puanı ve alt boyutları arasında anlamlı düzeyde bir ilişki olduğu ortaya konulmuştur. In addition, the effect of anaerobic performance parameters on efficiency scores in basketball players is recognized by coaches and athletic performance trainers. The aim of this study investigate the high-intensity interval training (HITT) effect on female basketball players in some of the performance parameters. The Research group (n=10) with is age mean of 15,74±,933year, body height of 169,95±5,22cm, and body weight of 63,63±9,25kg was applied a total of 16 HIIT training for eight weeks. Also, the control group was asked to continue field training and no training protocol was applied. Measurements were made on different days before the study and at the end of the 8th week. G*Power (1.3.9.4 version) was used to determine the sample size and SPSS 22 program was used to analyze the findings obtained from the measurements. After the training protocol was applied in the study, it was found that there was a significant difference (p<0.05) not only agility test but also in the 10-20-meter sprint performance measurements and basketball shooting test accuracy rates of basketball players (experimental group). As a result, it was determined that high-intensity interval training had a positive effect on agility and vertical jump and shouting tests. (Extended English summary is at the end of this document) Özet Basketbol branşında sürat ve çeviklik gelişim için önemli bir unsur olarak kabul edilmektedir. Ayrıca anaerobik performans parametrelerine basketbolcularda verimlilik puanlarına etkisi antrenörler ve atletik performans uzmanları ttarafından kabul edilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı kız basketbolculara uygulanan yüksek yoğunlukta aralıklı egzersizlerin (HITT) sportif performans üzerine etkisini tespit etmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmada yaş ortalaması 15,74±,933yıl olan boy ortalaması 169,95±5,22cm vücut ağırlığı ortalaması 63,63±9,25kg olan deney grubuna (n=10) 8 hafta boyunca saha antrenmanlarına ek farklı günlerde haftada 2 gün toplam 16 HIIT antrenman protokolü uygulanmıştır. Kontrol grubuna ise saha antrenmanlarına devam etmeleri istenmiş ve herhangi bir antrenman protokolü uygulanmamıştır. Araştırma öncesi ve 8. haftanın bitiminde olmak üzere farklı günlerde ölçümler yapılmıştır. Örneklem büyüklüğü tespiti için G*Power (1.3.9.4) ölçümlerden elde edilen bulguların analizinde ise SPSS 22 programı kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada uygulanan antrenman protokolü sonrası basketbolcularda (deney grubu) 10,20 metre sürat performans ölçümlerinde, çeviklik testi ve basketbol şut testi isabet oranlarında anlamlı farklılaşma (p<0.05) olduğu bulgusuna ulaşılmıştır. Within this movement, the field of pragmatics has come to the forefront, illuminating the intricate relationship between language and context. Pragmatics presents a unique challenge in language acquisition. It encompasses two critical dimensions: pragmalinguistic and sociopragmatic knowledge. Pragmalinguistic knowledge involves the ability to employ specific linguistic forms to convey intended meanings within a given context. In contrast, sociopragmatic knowledge delves deeper, demanding an understanding of the temporal and societal norms that govern when and where linguistic forms should be employed. The successful execution of speech acts serves as a vivid illustration of this duality, requiring proficiency in both pragmalinguistic forms and adherence to sociocultural norms within a language community. The present study seeks to address this gap (with the research aim) by investigating the pragmatic competence of non-native English teachers in comparison to their native counterparts. We specifically focus on their speech act productions, aiming to shed light on any discernible differences. Our research findings carry broader conclusions and some implications for language pedagogy as they contribute to our understanding of the complex interplay between language acquisition, contextual factors, and pragmatic competence. This study investigates the pragmatic competence of non-native English teachers, comparing it to that of native English teachers, with a specific focus on their speech act productions. By shedding light on these differences, this research contributes to our understanding of the intricate interplay between language acquisition, context, and pragmatic competence. What music, which is a remarkable learning tool especially for preschool children who are in their most inquisitive and questioning period, means for this age group also arouses curiosity. The aim of the research is to determine the perceptions of pre-school students towards the concept of \"music\" by using the metaphor/metaphoric perception technique, which is defined as explaining the abstract by giving concrete examples. The study group of the research consists of 159 pre-school students studying in the fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. In the research, the phenomenology model, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The data of the research were asked by the students, “What is music like/similar to? So, why is Music…like/similar?” collected by answering the question. In the analysis of the data, the data obtained by using content analysis, one of the qualitative data analysis approaches, were collected and presented under categories and themes. As a result of the research, preschool students produced 21 (count again) metaphors. These produced metaphors were handled with their common features and similar aspects and gathered under a theme and four categories were obtained. When the metaphors obtained were examined, it was noted that the students mainly gathered in the categories of song, dance and game. (Extended English summary is at the end of this document) Özet Müzik, her yaş grubu için önemli bir ilgi ve ihtiyaçtır. Özellikle en meraklı ve sorgulayıcı dönemlerinde olan okul öncesi çocukları için dikkat çekici bir öğrenme aracı olan müziğin yine bu yaş grubu için ne ifade ettiği de oldukça merak uyandırmaktadır. Araştırmanın amacı, en basit şekliyle, somut örnekler verilerek soyutun anlatılması olarak tanımlanan metafor/metaforik algı tekniğini kullanarak, okul öncesi öğrencilerinin “müzik” kavramına yönelik sahip oldukları algıları tespit etmektir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2022-2023 eğitim öğretim yılı, güz döneminde öğrenim gören 159 okul öncesi öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olgubilim deseni kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri öğrencilerin, “Müzik ne gibidir/neye benzer. Peki, Müzik, niçin……gibidir/benzer?” sorusunu cevaplamaları ile toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde, nitel veri analizi yaklaşımlarından, içerik analizi kullanılarak elde edilen veriler, kategoriler ve temalar altında toplanmış ve sunulmuştur. Araştırmanın sonucunda, okul öncesi öğrencileri 21 metafor üretmişlerdir. Üretilen bu metaforlar ortak özellikleri ve benzer yönleri ile ele alınarak bir tema altında toplanmış ve dört kategori elde edilmiştir. The 103 articles, which can be accessed by typing the keyword \"flute\" in Google Scholar, Dergipark, Sobiad databases and Google search engine, were analyzed with a descriptive analysis approach according to the variables of \"field, year, subject, method, number of authors, composer studied, journal in which it was published, index in which it was indexed\". According to the results of the research, it was determined that the articles published in the field of flute showed a balanced distribution in terms of field type in the field of flute education and outside the field of flute education, were mostly published in 2019, focused on flute techniques, especially on work analysis and etude/method analysis, mainly adopted qualitative method and survey model as method type, mostly single-authored, and W.A. Mozart and E. Köhler were the leading composers covered in their subjects. In addition, it was concluded that these articles, which were published in 52 different journals, were mostly indexed in indexes other than international field indexes, TR Index and journals that are not indexed in any index, and least indexed in journals in ESCI- Scopus and H.W. Wilson indexes, which are known as international field indexes. (Extended English summary is at the end of this document) Özet Türkiye’de flüt alanında yayımlanan makalelerin çeşitli özellikleri açısından incelenmesi ile mevcut durumunun belirlenmesi amacını taşıyan bu araştırma, betimsel tarama modelinde tasarlanmıştır. Google Akademik, Dergipark, Sobiad veri tabanlarına ve Google arama motoruna \"flüt\" anahtar kelimesi yazılarak ulaşılabilen 103 makale, betimsel analiz yaklaşımı ile \"alan, yıl, konu, yöntem, yazar sayısı, işlenilen besteci, yayımlandığı dergi, tarandığı index (dizin) değişkenlerine göre dağılımları incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre flüt alanında yayımlanan makalelerin alan türü bakımından flüt eğitimi alanında ve flüt eğitimi alanı dışında dengeli bir dağılım gösterdiği, en fazla 2019 yılında yayımlandığı, flüt teknikleri başta olmak üzere eser inceleme ve etüt/metot inceleme konuları üzerine yoğunlaştığı, ağırlıklı olarak nitel yöntemi ve yöntem türü olarak tarama modelini benimsediği, çoğunlukla tek yazarlı olduğu, konularında işlenen bestecilerin başında W.A. The “soundtrack”, as a recorded song or composition used to support film scenes, usually has features that coincide with the theme of the film, the emotion of the scene in which it is used, or the film images. However, sometimes it can be seen that film producers and directors choose music to accompany film scenes that is completely contrary to the dominant emotion in the scene. They use music that has a cheerful character for a drama scene, sad for a happy scene, fun for a horror scene, etc. According to the theorists of different historical periods of film literature, the aim of these choices, which shake the viewers’ expectation of harmony between the scene and music, is to try to offer new and different perspectives to the viewers perception through the paradox of scene atmosphere and music. With this kind of use, considered as soundtrack dissonance in the study, brand new meanings can be produced from the combination of opposing elements that neither the film scene nor the music alone can produce individually. The universe of this research consists of ice hockey players playing in the Youth Ice Hockey League in the 2022-2023 season. The sample group consists of a total of 37 ice hockey players, 24 males and 13 females, aged between 13-14, selected for the Anatolian Stars League. SPSS 20.0 package program was used to analyze the collected data. Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk normality tests were used to examine the distribution of the data. Correlation analysis was performed to examine the relationship between on-ice and off-ice performance values. Positive moderate level correlations were found between the on-ice s-turn test and the off-ice hand-eye coordination test, the on-ice shot speed test and the off-ice stork balance test, and the on-ice maximum speed test and the off-ice hand-eye coordination and 20m speed tests for female ice hockey players. No significant relationship was found between the on-ice and off-ice athletic performance values applied to male participants. (Extended English summary is at the end of this document) Özet Bu çalışmada kadın ve erkek buz hokeyi sporcularının buz üstü ve buz dışı performans değerlerini tespit ederek ilişki düzeylerini incelemek, iki cinsiyet arasındaki atletik performans değerlerinin farklılıklarını ortaya çıkartmak ve buz hokeyi branşında yetenek seçiminde kullanılan branşa özgü testler arasında mukayese yapmak amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın evrenini 2022-2023 sezonunda gençler Buz Hokeyi Liginde oynayan buz hokeyi sporcuları oluşturmuştur. Örneklem grubunu ise Anadolu Yıldızlar Ligi’ ne seçilen 13-14 yaş aralığındaki 24 erkek, 13 kadın olmak üzere toplam 37 buz hokeyi sporcusu oluşturmuştur. Toplanan verilerin çözümlenmesinde SPSS 20.0 paket programı kullanılmıştır. Verilerin dağılımını incelemek için Kolmogorov-Smirnov ve Shapiro-Wilk normallik testleri kullanılmıştır. Buz üstü ve buz dışı performans değerleri arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemek için ise korelasyon analizi yapılmıştır. Kadın buz hokeyi sporcularının katılımcıların buz üstü virajlı çeviklik testi (s-turn) ile buz dışı el-göz koordinasyon testi arasında pozitif yönlü orta düzeyde, buz üstü şut hızı testi ile buz dışı stork denge testi arasında pozitif yönlü orta düzeyde, buz üstü maksimum hız testi ile buz dışı el-göz koordinasyon testi ve 20m sürat testi arasında pozitif yönlü orta düzeyde anlamlı ilişkiler tespit edilmiştir. {"title":"A Study of Serum Adiponectin Levels in Patients with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and its Correlation with Various Cardiometabolic Risk Markers.","authors":"G Surendra Prasad, Uma Kaimal Saikia, Ashok Krishna Bhuyan, Abhamoni Baro","doi":"10.4103/jhrs.jhrs_95_23","DOIUrl":"10.4103/jhrs.jhrs_95_23","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Background: </strong>Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is the most common metabolic disorder in the reproductive age group, the pathogenesis of which is constantly evolving with the discovery of novel molecules and the lookout for potential therapeutic targets.</p><p><strong>Aims: </strong>The aim of the present study was to estimate the circulating levels of serum adiponectin in patients with PCOS compared to controls and to find its correlation with markers of cardiovascular risk, with special emphasis on circulating levels of oxidised low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL).</p><p><strong>Settings and design: </strong>In this cross-sectional observational study recently diagnosed, PCOS subjects were compared with age- and body mass index (BMI)-matched controls.</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>All the included subjects underwent detailed clinical, biochemical and hormonal evaluation, including lipid profile, 75 g oral glucose tolerance test, fasting serum insulin, fasting serum adiponectin, oxLDL, total testosterone and anti-Mullerian hormone.</p><p><strong>Statistical analysis used: </strong>Appropriate statistical methods were performed using SPSS (version 21) and Microsoft Excel (2019).</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>A total of 56 PCOS cases and 32 controls were included in the study. Mean values of serum adiponectin (μg/mL) in our study were found to be significantly lower in PCOS cases (11.53 ± 4.74) versus controls (14.73 ± 5.61) irrespective of BMI. Mean values of serum oxLDL (μg/dL) were found to be higher in PCOS cases (157.96 ± 53.89) versus controls (117.52 ± 45.44), with a significant negative correlation between adiponectin and oxLDL in cases. No difference in levels of adiponectin was found between the different PCOS phenotypes.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>Hypoadiponectinaemia was found to be associated with PCOS irrespective of obesity in PCOS subjects. However, the aetiology of PCOS is not fully understood.</p><p><strong>Aims: </strong>The objective of this study was to investigate the genetic causes of PCOS by identifying rare variants in genes implicated in its pathophysiology.</p><p><strong>Settings and design: </strong>This was a hospital-based observational study.</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>We used whole-exome sequencing for 52 PCOS women to identify the rare variants in genes related to PCOS pathogenesis. Subsequently, we analysed these variants using <i>in silico</i> prediction software to determine their functional effects. We then assessed the relationship between these variants and the clinical outcomes of the patients.</p><p><strong>Statistical analysis used: </strong>Student's <i>t</i>-test and Fisher's exact test were used to compare clinical parameters and frequency differences amongst PCOS patients with and without variants.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>A total of four rare exonic variants in obesity- and hyperinsulinaemia-related genes including <i>UCP1</i> (p.Thr227Ile), <i>UCP2</i> (p.Arg88Cys), <i>IRS1</i> (p.Ser892Gly) and <i>GHRL</i> (p.Leu72Met) were identified in eight patients. Significant differences were observed between the patients carrying variants and those without variants. PCOS patients with identified variants exhibited significantly higher average body mass index and fasting insulin levels of PCOS subjects with identified variants compared to those without variants (<i>P</i> < 0.05).
