They can provide flexibility, low operational and maintenance costs and they are inherently scalable. In the realm of Internet of Things the majority of devices is able to communicate with one another, and in some cases they can be deployed with an IP address. This feature is undoubtedly very beneficial in wireless sensor and actuator networks applications, such as monitoring and control systems. However, this kind of communication infrastructure is rather challenging as it can compromise the overall system performance due to several factors, namely outliers, intermittent communication breakdown or security issues. In order to improve the overall resilience of the system, this work proposes a distributed hierarchical multi-agent architecture implemented over a IPv6 communication infrastructure. The Contiki Operating System and RPL routing protocol were used together to provide a IPv6 based communication between nodes and an external network. Experimental results collected from a laboratory IPv6 based WSAN test-bed, show the relevance and benefits of the proposed methodology to cope with communication loss between nodes and the server.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121280688","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

LabVIEW and MATLAB/Simulink are both graphical programming languages, allowing a more efficient method to perform and analyze control systems. Therefore, they are the most commonly used software programs for these purposes. Moreover; in some applications - like hardware in the loop systems, flight simulations etc. - simulation time can be vital to achieve more realistic simulation. Therefore, in addition to programming style, simulation performance can be affected by used platform's abilities. In this paper both tools' abilities on some of control applications will be presented with benchmark problems and their performances on simulation of control systems will be analyzed and compared.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127545561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are two three to five phase matrix converter at both the ends of the load. In healthy condition both the matrix converters are sharing the load according to their modulation index. After the occurrence of an open-circuit fault in one of the matrix converter, it is disconnected and the other remaining converter shares the load according to its capacity (maximum rating is half of the dual converter). In the proposed scheme both the converters are sharing the load equally under normal operating conditions. After the clearance of fault, again both the matrix converters start working normally and sharing the load equally. In this paper it is shown that in a dual matrix converter supply system, they can work in healthy condition, post-fault condition and after clearance of the fault without break in continuity of the supply. Space vector pulse width modulation technique is used for control of the dual matrix converters under normal and post-fault conditions. Here open-end five-phase R-L load is taken for validation of the technique. Simulated results are verified experimentally.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123427937","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While system architectures have been designed for specific domains, literature informs only little about evaluation criteria for Context Management-Architectures. Nevertheless it is crucial to use the right criteria, when the system has to face requirements of industrial applications. While one system may be designed for reusable contextualisation mechanisms, others provide real-time information for Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). In this paper we develop suitable scenarios and metrics for architecture evaluation and apply these on two exemplary real-world architectures. The development of scenarios was based on domain experts and researchers in a project 1 concerning Cyber Physical Production Systems (CPPS), funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Our results show, that early architectural decisions have a high influence on the systems performance and therefore the systems applicability. The developed criteria also provide knowledge for system engineers in industrial practice.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125430417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This topology is developed using three two-level inverters and two isolated dc sources. Among these three two-level inverters one inverter is switched at fundamental frequency and remaining two inverters are switched at higher frequency. Two isolated dc sources with equal magnitude are used in this topology to block the path for zero sequence currents. Low frequency operated inverter is connected to one dc source and high frequency operated inverters are connected to other dc source. The magnitude of dc source voltage required in this topology is four times lesser than the dc source required in conventional five-level NPC inverter configuration. The first center band harmonics are cancelled by providing 1800 phase shift between the high frequency carrier signals. This topology can be operated during the failure of any one inverter switches or any one dc source which will increase the reliability of the system. The number of switching devices used in this configuration is considerably less compared to conventional five-level inverters. This configuration is best suitable for high power applications where low frequency operated inverter can use thyristors as switching devices. The proposed topology is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink with (5HP) four pole induction motor and results are presented to show the validity of this configuration.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126783333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In contrast, Demand Side Management (DSM) with its ability to allow customers to adjust electricity consumption in response to market signals has often been recognized as an efficient way to mitigate the variable effects of renewable energy. However, the industrial & academic literature have taken divergent approaches to DSM implementation. Academic studies often implement demand side management on the basis of a social welfare maximization. Meanwhile, industrial implementations minimize total system costs where customers are compensated for load reductions from a predefined baseline of electricity consumption that would have occurred without DSM. This paper rigorously compares these two different approaches in a day-ahead wholesale market context using the same system configuration and mathematical formalism. The comparison showed that a proper reconciliation between the dispatchable demand utility function and the load reduction cost function lead to fundamentally the same stochastic netload mitigation and the two DSM models generate the same dispatch results under specific conditions. However, while the social welfare model uses a stochastic net load composed of two terms, the industrial DSM model uses a stochastic net load composed of three terms, and is thus more prone to error and more likely requires more control activity in subsequent layers of enterprise control.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114945839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While much work has been done to reduce the worst-case latency, little effort has been put in analyzing the setup procedures of the network, which can be an interesting topic for applications where setup or reconfiguration dynamics are relevant; an example of such an application is a localization system based on ranging measurements from nodes in a WSN, in an environment where ranging accuracy is low and nodes are dense, allowing dynamic reconfiguration of the network depending on the position of the target. This paper analyses two different configuration strategies, depending on the superframe composition in a time-slotted beacon-enabled WSN.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115539615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The optimization problem aims to minimize microgrid operating costs and is formulated using a linear program that takes into account the storages charge and discharge efficiency. To account for power predictions uncertainty, optimization problem is defined in a stochastic framework by using chance constraints. Since we assume that the error in realization of power predictions will be compensated by utility grid, chance constraints are defined for power exchange between the microgrid and the utility grid. Finally, we investigate a stochastic model predictive control for the closed-loop power management in the microgrid. Performance verification of the proposed approach is performed on simulations for two-month period.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122701144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Analysis and modulation of the buck-boost voltage source inverter (BBVSI) for lower voltage stresses","authors":"Ahmed Abdelhakim","doi":"10.1109/ICIT.2015.7125216","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ICIT.2015.7125216","url":null,"abstract":"Renewable energy sources entail the power electronics inverters are the orbit of research objectives for optimum operation. Two commonly used inverters exist; the current source inverters (CSI) and the voltage source inverters (VSI). The first one supports only the boost capability and the other supports the buck capability, but due to the high variation of the output voltage of these renewable energy sources a buck-boost capability is a must. This buck-boost capability requires the enforcement of the aforementioned inverters with an additional stage for the amendment of the energy source output, which greatly reduces the overall efficiency. Instead of such two stage power conversion operation, a single stage operation could be obtained using the Z-source inverter (ZSI). The so-called ZSI exploits an impedance network to achieve such capability. This impedance network comprises four passive elements and a semiconductor switch, which is relatively bulky and costly. This paper proposes the analysis and the modulation scheme of another inverter topology, called the buck-boost voltage source inverter (BBVSI), to get the buck-boost capability in a single stage power conversion operation with less passive elements and less semiconductor devices ratings. The BBVSI topology exploits only two passive elements in addition to a semiconductor switch to give the same function of the ZSI with some merits over it. Moreover, this paper compares the BBVSI topology with the ZSI topology. The performance of the BBVSI topology is evaluated using MATLAB/Simulink models.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114258040","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
