Remote monitoring of these sites can reduce the amount of time spent on routine site visits especially for dieselrefills. This paper presents a design and implementation of a remote diesel-level monitoring system using wireless sensor network. A prototype of the system was developed and implemented using XB-24ZB radio units and an ultrasonic sensor. The diesel level was sensed and transmitted wirelessly to a remote base station for further processing and analysis. The novelty of the work lies in the development of a system that enables more efficient monitoring of diesel generators of different sizes at remote locations using Wireless Sensor Network. The prototype system can upgraded where necessary to include additional sensors for monitoring other factors in the base station environment.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124973178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this respect, the WirelessHART specification is emerging as a standard solution. Despite the direct benefits, a WirelessHART network exhibits a series of technical (reliability, energy consumption, tolerance to failures, constant delays) and cultural challenges. Accordingly the demand for tools to assess and guarantee reliability in closed-loop control systems becomes imminent. With the aim of demystifying the use of wireless technology in closed-loop control systems in the industry, this paper presents an assessment of the behavior of a WirelessHART network in a water level control processes in a system of coupled tanks. The results indicate that some challenges need to be overcome to adopt wireless technologies in control applications, as the case of transmission rates requirements less than one second.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125631421","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The training system is designed as a 6-DOF robot manipulator which controls the position and orientation of the golf club grip point. The manipulator's position and velocity kinematics are described using the DH coordinate frame method, from which a closed-form inverse kinematic solution is derived. The dynamics of the robot manipulator are described using the Euler-Lagrange equations of motion. The results of the inverse kinematic solution are used to drive the six joint motors using motion analysis simulation with a model of the golf swing training system, verifying the solution can obtain the desired golf swing trajectory.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115988940","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, high wire tension due to the tensile winding force proves to be detrimental. Wire stress can cause an increase of the ohmic winding resistance, thus leading to a decrease of the degree of efficiency and a reduction of the continuous power of an electric machine. A closed-loop-control of the tensile winding force is basically possible, however, the influence of the wire guide on the tensile force cannot be included due to the possible measuring positions. In order to use the automation potential of the needle winding technology it has to be ensured that quality and power of the winding products are not degraded. Therefore the influence of the tensile winding force on ohmic resistance as well as the influence of the geometry of the wire guide on the tensile force has to be known. However, such investigations have either not been conducted so far or are currently not publicly accessible. The winding parameters are usually based on experience, which is not sufficient for high power density applications. Therefore, in this paper experimental investigations are presented concerning the above mentioned topics and potentials for improvement are identified.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131761004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This type of filter is usually executed in real-time, therefore high processing speed is required. The authors outline the steps followed to allow the use of a cheap microcontroller unit to implement a full state UKF at a maximum frequency of about 200 Hz. Some important parts of the developed algorithm are explained in order to make clear where the computational bottlenecks are. This work can be used as an inspiring experience for other implementations, providing a guide to develop and deploy a complex algorithm into a microprocessor. Two different microprocessing architectures are proposed to explain some platform-dependent optimisations. These platforms are a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) and an ARM microcontroller. General advices and hardware-oriented optimisations are presented in order to reach the execution time reduction achieved in this paper. In this paper are shown the results of the improvements done in both platforms and the minimum requirements are listed as a conclusion.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124442707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

ICs No. IRF2130 are used for motor driving part. The characteristics of output current signal are nearly closed to sinusoidal pattern, so that low harmonics and high efficiency for motor control are obtained. The Sine PWM switching signal is generated by ARM7 (Adu7024) micro-controller which is programmable and cheap, while having high frequency to generating switching signal. In order to control the speed of induction motor, ratios of voltage to frequency (V/f) are controlled and constant torques are obtained by implementing technique of PI close-loop control.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124461103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Advanced structural materials like optimally designed carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) and aluminium tubes are therefore gaining increased use in achieving the lightweight design of industrial robots. A sophisticated benchmark investigation between CFRP and aluminium robot arms based on structural stiffness (flexural/bending and torsional), tube thickness and material weight is presented. The benchmark is conducted based on simulations using analytical stiffness models for CFRP and aluminium tubes. The benchmark results are presented in graphs where flexural and torsional stiffness are plotted as functions of fiber angle. For the purpose of comparison, the corresponding flexural and torsional stiffness of aluminium tubes are also presented in the same graph. Availability of this type of stiffness curves gives design engineers a full visual design space of fiber angle of CFRP tubes in comparison to aluminium tubes, in terms of both flexural and torsional stiffness. In total, six different benchmark case studies are conducted using the developed methodology and proposed stiffness curves. A quantitative design benchmark between CFRP and aluminium tubes is achieved based on the trade-offs among fiber angle, fiber E-modulus specifically, structural tube weight and design compactness represented by the tube thickness. For example, results of one case study disclose that when a fiber angle of about 22 degrees of the medium E-modulus fibers is chosen, the CFRP tube of the same mass as its aluminium counterpart may achieve a 200% increase in the torsional stiffness and more than 250% increase in flexural stiffness.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124279110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dc-link voltage is controlled by the machine-side converter instead of the grid-side converter. Taking into consideration the nonlinear relationship between the generator speed and the dc-link voltage, the machine-side converter controller is designed using interval type-2 fuzzy logic control (IT2-FLC). Transformers used to perform short-circuit tests have a secondary winding with very few turns, producing a very low output voltage. The increase in the reactive component of the impedance, which is related to loop size, limits the current output capacity, because the reactive component tends to saturate the output of the transformer and absorbs large amounts of reactive power. This paper analyzes a simple method to minimize the power requirements when conducting short-circuit tests, based on the reduction of reactive power consumption during the test. It is based on placing a wired conductor forming a closed inner loop concentric with the testing loop. The decrease of reactive power is related to the effect of the mutual inductance between the inner and outer loops. Three-dimensional finite element method (3D-FEM) simulations are used to optimize the problem, allowing changing the geometric and material properties of the inner loop. Experimental results validate the simulation method applied in this work to optimize the short-circuit tests.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116910210","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
