Traditionally, radiographs were the main tools for measuring root length; however, they have several limitations. Hence, Electronic apex locators have become popular these days. Aim and objective: To assess the efficiency of Propex Pixi and traditional radiographic method in measuring the root length of single rooted primary teeth. Materials and Methods: Thirty extracted human single rooted primary teeth were selected randomly. In-vivo environment was simulated by inserting tooth sample in alginate and the root length was determined by using Propex Pixi. Secondly, the root length was determined by conventional radiographic method and finally the exact root length was measured by direct visual method. Statistical analysis: The obtained data was assessed using Student paired ‘t’ test, intra-class correlation coefficient and regression analysis. Results: The study showed no significant difference between Propex Pixi and radiographic method(p=0.280). Both the electronic and radiographic methods displayed a high equivalence and compliance R=0.947 and R=0.826 with the actual measurement. Conclusions: Propex Pixi was as effective as radiographic method in measuring the root length of primary teeth. However, regression analysis showed that Propex Pixi can anticipate the exact value with 94.3% accuracy and radiographic method with 67.2% accuracy.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115435997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As prosthodontists, it is important to know how much concerned the people are towards oral health and what is their attitude, how aware are they about various available treatments and how much knowledge do they have about its importance in order to give them oral health education, create awareness and help develop the practice guidelines. Hence, the aim of the survey was to assess the knowledge, awareness and attitude of the general population in Bengaluru city towards prosthodontic rehabilitation. Material and Methods: We divided Bengaluru city (total area of about 286 sq. miles) arbitrarily into four zones, namely, North zone, South zone, East zone and West zone. A total of 2516 subjects belonging to the age group of 35 to 74 years from all the four zones were surveyed with a questionnaire which was either in English or in Kannada (local language) with sixteen closed-ended questions. The statistical analysis of the data collected through the questionnaire was done using SPSS (V-22) software. Results: The age of the subjects who participated in the survey ranged between thirty-five to seventy-four years. Among the 2516 subjects, 1283 were male subjects and 1233 were female subjects. It was found that most of the subjects (77.2%) visited the oral health care provider only when they had any dental problems. About 54.4% of the subjects who participated in the survey had not got their missing teeth replaced. About 74.9% of the subjects had restrained themselves from getting the treatment thinking that the prosthetic treatment is expensive. Conclusion: On summarizing the data obtained from the survey, it was understood that there is a strong requirement to create awareness among people about the prosthodontic rehabilitation of missing teeth. Even though there are many government programs and schemes that offer the essential dental treatments for free of cost, due to lack of awareness and knowledge regarding the same, the general public is still not approaching for the improvement of their oral health status and ignoring their dental problems thinking that the treatment is too expensive. Therefore, it is of utmost importance for the dentists to reach out to the general public, create awareness about the importance of oral health and various facilities available from the government for the dental treatments and extend the treatment hoping to improve their future quality of life through dental camps and prosthodontic outreach programs.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124555415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These micro-vessels in the organs and tissues comprises the microvasculature. These micro-vessels are made up of four components that includes arterioles metarterioles capillaries and venules. Arterioles carry oxygenated blood to the capillaries. Blood in the capillaries in turn flows out into veins via venules. Microcirculation differs from macro-circulation which involves circulation of blood to and from the organs. The maximum vascular supply of the periodontal tissues is from the microcirculation. Every blood vessel that supplies the periodontal tissues including the gingiva in both maxilla and mandible emerges out from the maxillary artery. These blood vessels branch into the alveolar bone marrow and gets distributed within the periodontium ultimately as micro-vessels microcirculation. Changes in the periodontal vasculature is evident as the periodontal condition shifts from health to disease. Occasionally they occur as a result of the invasion of microorganisms secondary to minor trauma. Actinomyces species are one of the normal habitants of the oral cavity that tend to penetrate submucosal tissues when there is a disruption in the mucosal barrier and cause pathology. Actinomyces israelii a gram-positive rod-shaped bacterium is an opportunistic pathogen that is difficult to culture. Molecular analyses a polymerase chain reaction and DNA sequencing will identify bacterial species and strains that are difficult or impossible to grow in artificial culture media.Methodology A total of 15 paraffin-embedded pyogenic granuloma samples were taken. All samples were subjected to molecular analysis using real-time polymerase chain reaction with forward and reverse primers of Actinomyces israelii.Result Out of 15 samples 13 samples 86.7 had expressed Actinomyces israelii gene sequence with good mean CT value suggesting that Actinomyces israelii have an association with pyogenic granuloma. There was a weak negative correlation r - 0.022 between age and CT value and the correlation was found to be statistically insignificant p0.943.Conclusion The anterior region of the oral cavity is more prone to trauma and thereby might act as a source for breaking the mucosal barrier which can be a route for microorganisms to establish their association with pyogenic granuloma. These microorganisms may play a role in recurrence. Identification of the causative organisms of irritation could serve as a tool for the radical treatment of pyogenic granulomas.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117064726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The relentless efforts amongst dental professionals to refine their practice have made them adapt from conventional treatment procedures to a fully digital plan to treat their patients. 3D printing is a resourceful technique that allows the development of fully digitalized and customized treatment plans, thereby helping in the personalization of dental appliances for patients. It is highly competent, replicable, and provides fast and precise results in a reasonably priced style. In pedodontics, this technology can overcome the increased chair side time for children thus making the treatment easier for both the pedodontist and the child. Other than its clinical aspects, 3D printing is now used for making real-life models for dental educational purposes, as well as patient awareness. In this review, we will discuss the execution and current trends of 3D printing uses in pediatric and preventive dentistry. The aim is to throw light upon the process of the digital road map used in the clinical diagnosis of various dental problems focusing on pediatric dental practice and how it can be connected from labs to clinics. A brief stance on the most recent processing methods as well as their current and future applications are also discussed.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117249912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has been delivered to our fingertips since the first smartphone arrived in market. In this regard, Cariogram has been developed to bring caries prevention to the fingertips. This particular caries assessment method was selected for the study as it is considered one of the most reliable models as per reports. Methods: A questionnaire-based survey was carried out among 90 school going children in the age group of 7-10-years in North Bengaluru, Karnataka. A cariogram model was used to create caries risk profiles of 45-males and 45-females. The caries risk profiles generated by the cariogram software were observed amongst different genders and age groups. Results: The results obtained showed that children aged 10-years had comparatively less chance to avoid new caries as compared to age groups 7, 8, and 9 years. On comparison between male and female subjects, females had more chances of avoiding new caries as compared to males, even though they did not have a significant difference in their oral hygiene practices, dietary practices, and socioeconomic background. Conclusion: The Cariogram program is functional and has certain benefits such as providing recommendations for preventive care and motivating the patient with its presentation in the form of pie-chart, viewing the multifactorial caries risk assessment instead of single variables.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130563388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
