Oral submucous fibrosis OSMF is a potentially malignant disorder in which the mucosa stiffens and patients have trouble opening their mouth thus affecting their quality of life. Early therapeutic intervention yields better results. However oral submucous fibrosis has never been successfully treated by any single medication so far. Practitioners have tried various combinations of the drugs with variable results. Hence we conducted this meta-analysis to assess which treatment modality gives a better result with regard to improvement in mouth opening in OSMF patients.Methods Electronic search for articles published in various journals were undertaken through various search engines till October 2021. About 29 articles were selected which had performed randomized control trials of various drugs on oral submucous fibrosis. Frequentist network meta-analysis was performed using R studio software and effective treatment ranking was derived.Results According to the treatment ranking generated relative to mouth opening the most effective treatment was the intralesional steroid and hyaluronidase with vitamin E supplementation and the intralesional steroid and hyaluronidase with lycopene being the second best.Conclusion This network meta-analysis has analyzed the efficacy of various drug regimens used in the management of oral submucous fibrosis which can be implemented by the practitioners in the management of initial stages of oral submucous fibrosis thus preventing its progression into oral cancer.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135914296","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In contrast anxiety is an emotion similar to fear but arising without any objective source of danger. Dental treatments are well known to trigger anxiety and fear in children as most commonly used instruments such as airotor and suction create a sense of fear and anxiety in them. This impacts not only the quality of outcome of treatment but also the attitude of a child towards dentists and dental care.Objective The aim of the study was to compare the levels of anxiety during various aerosol and non-aerosol dental treatments in children.Method One hundred and twenty children aged 5 to 13 years were evaluated for anxiety levels by undergoing various dental treatments aerosol and non-aerosol techniques. The level of dental fear was measured before during and after the treatment with a pulse oximeter Animated Emoji Scale AES and Face Legs Activity Cry Consolability FLACC scale.Results Subjects belonging to the non-aerosol technique group showed least anxiety levels. Maximum relaxation was seen in children undergoing atraumatic restorative treatment ART followed by the HALL technique group and then the conventional restorative procedures. Least comfort was seen in the conventional stainless steel crown group. Conclusion Non-aerosol techniques generate least anxiety in children and should be considered for treatment procedures involving children with higher anxiety levels.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135913958","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Formation and development of dental biofilm and its potential to harbor specific microorganisms is directly linked with some of the most common oral ailments like dental caries diseases affecting periodontium. The conventional protocol to treat such ailments primarily include removal of biofilm along with adjunctive course of antibiotics. However these modalities have limitations in their efficacy. Ozone is a natural gas present in the earth stratosphere and acts as a potent oxidant. At low doses ozone has several favorable therapeutic applications in medicine as well as in dental pathologies. Particularly ozone as a treatment modality was used for the first time in dentistry in the 1930s when it was proposed as a disinfectant and wound-healing agent. Owing to its strong oxidation property with the formation of free radicals and its capacity to directly destruct almost all microorganisms it is known as a potential antioxidant anti-inflammatory immunomodulatory anti-hypoxic biosynthetic and antimicrobial agent. In addition ozone has a therapeutic effect that promotes wound healing and improves blood supply. Three most common forms in which ozone can be administered for its therapeutic use are gaseous aqueous and oil forms out of which the gaseous application of ozone is critically evaluated because of its possible side effects on the respiratory system. The objective of the current article was to compile and document various application of ozone in the field of periodontology. Research was based on peer-reviewed sources found through MedlinePubMed Google scholar search and other reviews and journals.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135912885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Etiology ranges from trauma or laceration to the salivary duct or the gland parenchyma itself. The injurious cause can be trauma or insult from surgeries involving the salivary gland like superficial parotidectomy. The objective of this study is to bring in light the potential of iatrogenic trauma to the Stensonrsquos duct. The paper also includes the key to diagnosis and surgical technique to correct the sialocele resulting from the ductal injury. The surgical procedure of ductal repair of two patients of Sialocele was conducted in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery CDCRI. The treatment included distal canulation of the duct intra-orally extra-oral surgical exploration removal of the cystic lining in one patient and catheterising with a paediatric feeding tube the distal part of the duct up to the site of saliva accumulation. Post-operative monitoring done with thorough irrigation and pressure dressing. After 21 post operative days the patency of the tract for saliva drainage was marked. Removal of the feeding tube also showed intact saliva drainage on stimulation. Treatment spectrum ranges from conservative medicinal treatment anti-cholinergic drugs administration and surgical intervention. Enucleation and Catheterization is a promising treatment modality.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135913149","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aesthetic treatments are increasingly in demand particularly in the field of dentistry as peoplersquos concerns about appearance have grown. Due to a mismatch between the patientrsquos personality and the smile design the final aesthetic results might fall short of the patientrsquos expectations. Dental professionals have been attempting to match the shapes of the teeth with the entire face based on factors like gender personality and age for decades but successful results have proven elusive. The Visagism concept aids dental clinicians in creating restorations that take into consideration not only the aesthetics of the created image but also its psychosocial components which have an impact on patientsrsquo feelings sense of identity behaviour and self-esteem. Since the patient can take part in the design of his smile with Visagism the professional can be more certain of the treatment outcome. This article aims to glorify the novel idea of Visagism so that the clinician can create smiles that are meant worthy of the patient. The relationship between a patientrsquos smile and personality is one that is unintentionally overlooked during the course of treatment.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135914279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
