Materials and Methods: Unstimulated salivary samples of 100 high and low caries index participants were collected within the age group of 18-60. The mean pH of all the samples was tested with a pH meter. The activity of Matrix metalloproteinases 2 and 9 was determined using gelatin zymography. Result: Mean salivary pH of high caries index participants were significantly higher than that of caries free participants. Also,gelatinase activity determined using gelatin zymography was significantly higher in the salivary samples of the participants with high caries index than that of the low caries index participants. Conclusion: Salivary MMP2 and MMP9 was determined to be more active in high caries index participants saliva than that of caries free participants. Thus, this was predictive of the enhanced activity of MMP 2 and MMP 9 which are gelatinases. This directs towards the significance of MMP 2 and MMP 9’s role in the degradation of dentine collagen matrix and thereby caries progression.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121032277","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Early diagnosis and aggressive medical and surgical intervention are the key factors to extricate the patients. However, this leads to abundant hard and soft tissue loss, leaving behind a huge orofacial defect, along with certain morbidities and psychological trauma, necessitating surgical and prosthodontic rehabilitation. The present paper reviews on role of prosthodontist in various stages of treatment for mucormycosis patients. It also summarizes several treatment modalities including recent trends to rehabilitate the defect and restore the patients’ quality of life.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125112091","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fulfilling functional and esthetic demands of patients with multiple gingival recessions remains a major therapeutic challenge. While treating adjacent multiple recession defects in esthetic areas, selection of appropriate surgical procedure that restores optimal esthetic and functional stability is of paramount importance, which allows the clinician to gain optimal structural correction of the soft tissue deficiency yet does not compromise the soft tissue architecture and esthetics. Zucchelli and De Sanctis have described a modified coronally advanced flap design for the treatment of multiple gingival recessions, which allows for optimal flap adaptation and satisfactory root coverage. Platelet Rich Fibrin demonstrates the additional biologic effects, where its growth factors enhance the wound healing mechanism and are postulated as promoters of tissue regeneration. This case report presents bilateral multiple gingival recessions treated with Zucchelli’s modified coronally advanced flap with or without the use of Platelet Rich Fibrin.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125241964","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is also called as familial fibrous dysplasia and familial multi-locular cystic lesion of the jaws. Its typical dento-facial deformities are caused by mutations in the SH3BP2 gene. The lesion regresses during puberty and the disease stabilizes after the growth period. But it leaves some facial deformity along with disturbances in occlusion. Cherubism may occur as an individual case or in multiple members of the same family, oftenly in multiple generations. Radiographic examination of the lesion shows bilateral multi-locular radiolucent areas.The aim of this case report is to present a case of 12-years old cherubic child, with its clinical and radiological features and discussion about the clinical outcome.This patient was diagnosed with Cherubism and being followed up periodically.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125623021","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A single spice has the potential to treat a wide range of diseases. This is a preliminary investigation to assess Myristica fragrans Nutmeg efficacy as a pulpotomy medicament.Objective To assess the clinical and radiographic efficacy of Myristica fragrans as pulpotomy medicament and compare it with white mineral trioxide aggregate MTAmdash an excellent biomaterial used for pulpotomy in primary teeth. Materials and methods This is a triple-blinded randomized controlled clinical trial performed on children aged between 4ndash8 years with primary molars requiring pulpotomy. A total of 50 teeth were randomly assigned into two groups after pulp amputation and hemostasis group A received Myristica fragrans with zinc oxide eugenol and group B received MTA over the pulp stumps. Teeth were then filled with glass ionomer cement and then complete coronal restorations with stainless steel crowns were given. The evaluation was done both clinically and radiographically by a blinded calibrated evaluator based on Zurn and Seale criteria at 3 6 and 12 months. The data obtained were subjected to statistical analysis.Results Both groups showed 100 success clinically and radiographically throughout the follow-up period. The results indicated that Myristica fragrans showed similar performance as MTA when used as a pulpotomy medicament.Conclusions Myristica fragrans can be suggested as a pulpotomy agent for primary teeth. However further clinical studies with long-term follow-ups are needed to give more affirmative results.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122715797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The posterior regions of the jaws show more resorption compared to the anterior regions with the mandible being affected more. Therefore various techniques have been sought upon and incorporated for expanding the lost bucco-lingual width of the alveolar ridge. In the search for better techniques, ridge split technique has emerged as a successful method. We, present a case of a 36-year-old female patient who came to the outpatient department of periodontology with the chief complaint of missing left back lower tooth which was extracted one year back due to caries. After thorough investigations, it was decided to do a ridge split technique. A piezosurgical unit was used for splitting the ridge, following which bone graft material (alloplast) was placed. This was followed by immediate implant placement.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123024029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
