There are different types of periodontal dressings based on the composition, setting, consistency, and solubility. Various authors have studied the properties of periodontal dressings. However, majority of them have emphasized only on their biocompatibility and therapeutic benefits. Eugenol-based periodontal dressings are no longer used due to their cytotoxic properties. Currently, popular ones are zinc oxide-based without eugenol in their composition. Although light-cured periodontal dressings fetched some attention due to its biocompatibility, aesthetics and comfort in application, its use is limited due to relatively higher cost. Mucoadhesive patches were introduced, however, due to their limited action time, it is not indicated universally. In recent times, there is growing interest in biological dressing materials which are found to be more tissue friendly and aid in better healing. Literature reveals mixed opinions on the use of periodontal dressings in different clinical scenarios. As there is no proper consensus on the use of periodontal dressings, it becomes the choice of a clinician to decide on the use of periodontal dressing based on the clinical condition.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131563784","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Children are usually more prone to such accidents especially in anterior region with open pulp chambers or root canals. Frequently these foreign bodies are embedded in the oral cavity either due to iatrogenic reasons or traumatically producing various types of reactions ranging from pain to abscess and fistula. Most common foreign bodies noted in the oral cavity include amalgam obturating materials broken instruments needles pins paper clips beads pencil tips etc. Case history clinical evaluation and radiographic investigations play a key role in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. This paper presents three uncommon cases of embedded foreign bodies in oral cavity in adult patients. The foreign particles presented here included broken bur piece stapler pin and a piece of steel wire.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131642546","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this case, most common irrigant used in root canal treatment are sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and 2% chlorhexidinegluconate (CHX) have been recommended as a less toxic alternative. This treatment of using chemical irrigants for eliminating bacteria leads to a colour formation in the tooth by formation of parachloroaniline (PCA). Our study focuses on the spectrophotometric analysis of PCA formation during the NaOCl and CHX are mixed and thereby using intermediate irrigant solutions to prevention of orange brown precipitate. Spectrophotometer works on the principle of Beer Lambert’s Law in which - max determination of PCA was done using a wavelength scan between 350nm to 550nm. Furthermore, three different intermediate irrigant solutions were tested to analyse the efficient solution system for prevention of the orange brown precipitate. Group A fresh lime juice extract, group B 14.25% EDTA and group C 70% ethanol was used.Group A (lime group) exhibited the least OD value among all the experimental groups followed by group B (14.25% EDTA) and group C(70% Ethanol) and also statistically proved. Spectrophotometric analysis showed freshly prepared lime juice extract was found to be very effective in prevention of PCA precipitate followed by 14.25% EDTA and 70% ethanol. Thus, this study gives and insight about the analysis and novel ways of prevention of PCA during root canal treatment","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131759288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
