The infrastructure provided by Chip Implementation Center (CIC), founded in 1992 under the National Science Council (NSC) of Taiwan R.O.C., is used to speed up the development and improvement of IC/SOC/IP design environment. Different kinds of EDA tools, training courses, SOC/IP design examples and a system-level rapid prototyping laboratory are provided for education and research. In the future, CIC will continue collaborating with the academia, devoting itself to training more and well qualified researchers and designers, and enhancing the SOC/IP technology level.","PeriodicalId":137611,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 2003 IEEE International Conference on Microelectronic Systems Education. Students who have access to industry standard IC design tools that are integrated in a commercial design flow will be better prepared to enter the workforce. However, these capabilities are expensive to support and not generally available within Universities. The \"Digital Sandbox\" program described in this paper is facilitating education by providing and supporting modern VLSI/SoC CAD tools and industry standard design libraries.","PeriodicalId":137611,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 2003 IEEE International Conference on Microelectronic Systems Education. Experience in teaching engineering subjects has shown that a complementary approach combining theoretical and practical exercises is vital for effective learning. Increasingly, teaching institutions are offering remote access to distant laboratories as part of an overall e-learning strategy. However the majority of remote laboratories developed to date have suffered from a major deficiency, namely the provision of a web based environment that accurately recreates the experience of traditional campus based laboratories. This paper addresses these issues and presents a supported collaborative learning environment for remote experimentation.","PeriodicalId":137611,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 2003 IEEE International Conference on Microelectronic Systems Education. Focusing on the intersection of areas such as physics, biology, engineering, chemistry, computer science and more, nonotechnology, is rapidly expanding. Many researchers in academia and industries have expressed need for an academic program where students from diverse fields of sciences and engineering (molecular computing, quantum physics, chemistry, mechanical, electrical, computer etc.) can come together to learn and discuss the latest advances, with the overall objective of encouraging further development. This will need preparing engineering students with an ability to apply knowledge of science, mathematics, and engineering to develop nanodevices and nanosystems. The challenge is to provide an interdisciplinary education to students through a well-structured curriculum covering broad aspects of basic sciences and engineering.","PeriodicalId":137611,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 2003 IEEE International Conference on Microelectronic Systems Education.
