The linearity is strongly increased by implementing an original technique, using a proper current biasing of the differential core. The structures are implemented in 0.35μm CMOS technology and are supplied at ±3V. The circuits present a very good linearity (in the worst case, THD <;0.4%), correlated with an extended range of the input voltage (at least ±0.5V). The spectrum sensing methods presented in this paper are optimised to implement these in FPGA based embedded systems. The low power and highly parallelised architecture of FPGA requires low complexity in implementation of separate processing units - spectrum sensors (SpS). The widely used detection methods, based on analysis of signal spectrum energy and standard deviation are integrated in proposed spectrum analysis algorithm for cognitive radio spectrum sensing applications. The experimental investigation of proposed algorithm is performed in simulated and real RF environments. It is showed that proposed algorithm increase the spectrum sensing efficiency and minimise the miss-detection of licensed users to 12 % using only the energy detector in proposed algorithm and 5% additionally adding the standard deviation based spectrum sensing. Three channel verification techniques with proposed spectrum sensors were tested during our investigation. The Forward Consecutive Mean Excision (FCME) based technique showed the highest accuracy in channel verification task.","PeriodicalId":136720,"journal":{"name":"Eurocon 2013","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121705472","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The infrared detection module consists of a single dual element pyroelectric infrared sensor. The drive and steering control system is designed using a single chip 74HCXX Quad 2-input NAND gate as the logic controller and providing constant forward propulsion whilst in real time adjusting to the subject's direction. Automatic tracking of animal or human subjects is the sole purpose of the design. The range has been limited to two meters, with a maximum range of five meters. Modification of the pyroelectric sensor enables detection of both left and right movement. The robots ability to follow human and animal motion has been achieved. Visually observed results show the robot is able to drive, turn and detect human and animal motion and can work reliably. Beside the well known specifications COST 207 [1] and EN 50248 [2], there exist additional channel profiles for hilly regions with longer echoes especially for DAB, which are not covered in this two standards. The proposed methods convert these measured (continuous) power-delay profiles to discrete parameters (average path delay and path gain) of a tapped-delay line channel model to simulate the complete transmission channel of a DAB system. Beside the statistical procedure via Monte Carlo simulation [3] it is another deterministic and computationally efficient method to simulate the wireless propagation channel especially for DAB. The performance of the proposed algorithms is investigated with respect to the frequency correlation function (FCF), average path delay and delay spread. The method found to perform best is the so called Lp-norm method (LPNM).","PeriodicalId":136720,"journal":{"name":"Eurocon 2013","volume":"152 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122788492","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present a new automatic lip-reading system that uses geometrical information extracted from video sequences in the classification of dynamic lip movements and implemented in four variants of Hidden Markov Models. In the recognition of the English digits 0 to 9 as spoken by the subjects available in the CUAVE database, the proposed system is able to produce a word recognition performance of up to 68%, a result better than that obtained using a conventional appearance-based Discrete Cosine Transform technique. The two approaches are also compared when operating under simulated changes in environment conditions that arise from head movements and alterations in image illumination. The performance of the appearance-based approach was adversely affected by such rotational and brightness changes, yet the performance of the geometrical-based method remained consistent, demonstrating its potential to be effective as part of a multimodal speech recognition system for use in noisy environments.","PeriodicalId":136720,"journal":{"name":"Eurocon 2013","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125360617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

User satisfaction is often characterised in terms of Quality of Experience (QoE), a subjective metric with multiple dimensions such as expectations, content, terminal, environment, cost and performance. QoE is typically quantified as MOS, mean opinion score, which is obtained by averaging the ranks of a number of voluntary users for controlled combinations content/terminals/performance etc. While this approach has many advantages, there are also a number of difficulties such as representativeness (the number of users as well as the number of objects and devices all have to be kept small); validity (the results may be biased by the situation, the setting, the renumeration and so on); and applicability (it is not clear how different numbers map to notions such as “acceptable” or “unacceptable” and operators alone cannot do very much about factors such as content). We thus investigate the possibilities of detecting user opinions in the above, simplified, terms and from the network itself; with actual expectations, content, terminals, environments, costs and performance for virtually all users all the time. To this end we revisit the earlier suggestion that user opinions be reflected in their behaviour such that poor performance may result in interrupted requests. These works have, however, considered single flows hence we extend that idea to web pages which are groups of flows. In this paper we present our methods to group flows, interpret users, and characterise performance and we make a first assessment of the correlations between web page interruptions and network performance characteristics.","PeriodicalId":136720,"journal":{"name":"Eurocon 2013","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129688028","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
