André","doi":"10.1109/IUSER.2014.7002699","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/IUSER.2014.7002699","url":null,"abstract":"The aim of this study is first, to have an overview of current professional practices related to the use of usability evaluation and conception methods (user testing, interview, etc.) of a human-machine interface (HMI); and then, to determine the factors influencing their use. For this purpose, we have developed an online survey aimed at professionals sensitive to usability issues. The survey was open for the last quarter of 2012; the final sample size was 98 professionals. The relevance of this questionnaire is to identify the level of knowledge and use for each usability method. Our study highlighted the following results: while some methods are frequently used, such as user testing; others are unknown to professionals, such as automated evaluation. Certain methods are known to professionals but used anecdotally, such as card sorting. The study also reveals some factors influencing how the use of each method is done. The results show that the use of each method depends on the professional's expertise, academic background and the sector in which they work. In a longer term, we want to conduct interviews with professionals to know about their practices in more detail. Video games have advanced technologically and visually, and seem to demand greater levels of engagement from their users. The degree of interaction designed into a game is vital to effectively generate a constructive or destructive player (user) experience. The success of the gaming industry has bred a desire to accurately understand and measure player responses to video gaming, thus making video games a perfect test-bed for HCI explorations. However, not many ophthalmic and optical retailers utilize online marketing as opposed to the traditional method as a platform to market their products, such as sunglasses, ophthalmic frames or other optical aids. Retailers need to strategies in showcasing products by establishing factors attentive to their targeted customers. Analysis with an eye tracker is useful to determine the contributing factors to where customers look during selection of products online. The study aimed to determine the factors contributed when selecting sunglasses online. In this study, 23 undergraduate students (18-25 years) participated and were asked to choose the most preferred sunglasses from a selection of stimuli. During the selection process, the eye tracker captured the objective responses, i.e. eye movement. The relationship between time to first fixation and fixation duration recorded on selection factors such as shape attributes, price and brand were studied using the eye tracker (quantitative data) and were correlated with the heat maps data (qualitative data). The findings showed that the participants look at the sunglasses attributes significantly more (p>0.05) than other factors (brand and price). The ARCS model often used to identify and solve problems in a systematic way to motivate a learner in classroom learning or e-learning environment. The gamification of learning provides a useful technique to drive engagement and motivation in applying game mechanics and dynamics into learning activities. In spite of the success of gamification of learning, there are also failures. The proper method is needed to integrate gamification into learning. In this paper, we propose an enhanced ARCS model for gamification of learning called ARCS+G. Recent studies explored the existence of multimodal interactions in traditional foot reflexology practice identified the haptic, visual and aural interactions involved in the therapy. However, it is unclear to what degree is the significance of each multi-modal interaction which influences the therapeutic experience users perceive. This paper presents a study that examined data collected for analysis from 3 certified practicing experts to identify the hierarchy of importance and weight of the contributing criteria in the therapy. The study findings presented the visual and aural hierarchy of interactive importance from the practitioners' perspective. An initial interface was designed with interactive information retrieval features covering the aspects of search box, categories, navigation, layout and search result views. Eight randomly selected subjects tested the interface in the scenario of simulated search tasks and provided their feedback via post-task questionnaire. A redesigned search user interface was proposed based on the subjects' feedback to the initial design. MAR is state-of-the-art technology that has completely revolutionized the way of accessing and interacting with information thus invoking new experiences for users all around the world. This article is an effort to summarize the current research regarding user experience of MAR. Mobile AR Publications of past 10 years are identified for a preliminary review from prominent online databases and digital libraries. The aim of this study is to identify the areas of User Experience (UX) that lack research. We present a classification of present UX research in MAR domain. This paper provides a review and consolidation of the most recent efforts over the past 5 years in understanding the role of gender in interaction design. We discuss, in particular, how recent approaches to gender in human-computer interaction move past questions of how men and women interact differently with technologies. Scholars are focusing on activist, intersectional, and reflexive approaches to gender and identity in design that focus on inclusion and accountability in terms of who technologies are designed for and in what ways. APA helps improve user learning experience and thus enhances and increases the effectiveness of the courseware. Studies also showed that learner's emotion have a tremendous effect in one's cognitive process. This paper discusses the pilot study for the implementation of a courseware with APA that adapts to learner's emotions. The APA in the courseware was tested for its effectiveness on the target group using the pre-test and post-test approach.
