Wikipedia search engine: Interactive information retrieval interface design

Abstract

Wikipedia search interface was redesigned based on the literature review for this project. An initial interface was designed with interactive information retrieval features covering the aspects of search box, categories, navigation, layout and search result views. Eight randomly selected subjects tested the interface in the scenario of simulated search tasks and provided their feedback via post-task questionnaire. A redesigned search user interface was proposed based on the subjects' feedback to the initial design. The new interface is expected to meet users' search preference and will inform further IIR (Interactive Information Retrieval) interface design.
