The leaders in the nursing profession are well aware for what they are legally responsible, but there is a lack of well stated guidelines on legal responsibilities in the nursing profession. This is due to unawareness of citizens about their rights of protection against harmful or negligent professional practice. Hence, nurses are rarely got involved in court action or other legal procedures. As the public and profession become more and more aware of the practicing law, both the patient and nurse are in need to protect themselves from legal actions. Hence, understanding of legal responsibilities has become greater importance. Aim: Aim of study is to assess knowledge and attitude of staff nurses related to legal responsibilities in patient care in Y.C.R. Hospital. Method: In the study 60 sample were chosen using non probability convenient sampling, structured questionnaire administered to assess knowledge and attitude among staff nurses of Y.C.R. Hospital Latur. Result: The findings of the present study, revealed that among 78% staff nurses have average knowledge and 22% staff nurses have good knowledge. The total knowledge score ranged from 0 - 31. The knowledge score was further divided arbitrarily in to, Poor (0 – 10), Average (11 – 21), and good knowledge (22 – 31). A modified Likert type attitude scale was prepared and the total score ranged from 30 to 150. This was further divided arbitrarily as follows; Negative (30 – 70), Slightly Positive (71 – 110), and Strongly Positive attitude (111 – 150). Mean knowledge score among staff nurses was 20.0667 with standard deviation + 2.39962 and Range between 0-31 While the Mean attitude score was 91.4833 with Standard Deviation of +10.27007 and Range between 30-150. Hence Null hypothesis is accepted. To find association of knowledge with their selected personal demographical variables Chi-Square was computed, results reveal that no personal variables of samples were found to be statistically significant at 0.05 level of significance. CONCLUSION: The study revealed knowledge and attitude of staff nurses related to legal responsibilities is having a profound impact on patient care majority staff nurses have average knowledge about legal responsibilities in patient care. The result demonstrated that the Questionnaire was effective to assess knowledge and attitude related to legal responsibilities in patient care among staff nurses of Y.C.R. Objectives: Objectives were to assess the level of quality of sleep among post-operative patients admitted in JMMC and RI, Thrissur and to associate socio-demographic and clinical data variables with level of quality of sleep among post-operative patients admitted in JMMC and RI, Thrissur. Methodology: A non experimental approach with descriptive design was used. The study was conducted by purposive sampling technique with 91 samples having age above 18 years from the general surgery ward of JMMC and RI. The data collection tool used in the study are demographic and clinical data variables and self developed questionnaire. Questionnaire score <45 is considered as adequate sleep and >45 is considered as inadequate sleep. Both descriptive (frequency, percentage) and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Results: Socio-demographic data shows that majority of people 22 (24.2%) belong to the age group greater than 58 years and 39-48 years and 47 (51.6%) are males, 51 (56%) are Hindus. Clinical data variables shows that majority of people 74 (81.3%) were given general anesthesia, 38 (41.8%) of people is on 2 nd post operative day, 39 (42.8%) slept for 2-4 hours, 79 (86.8%) use general ward, 57 (62.6%) does not have any comorbid conditions, 75 (82.4%) have sleep disturbances, 39 (42.8%) have moderate pain and 83 (91.2%) have no history of past use of sleep medications. Inference from the Self developed Questionnaire shows that majority scored >45, 63 (69.23%) post-operative patients had inadequate sleep and only 28 (30.6%) patients scored <45 and had adequate sleep.1 There is significant association (p=0.001) between quality of sleep and sleeping hours. There is significant association (p=0.001) between quality of sleep and post-operative pain. Also there is significant association (p=0.001) between sleep quality and sleep. It is also evident that there is no association between quality of sleep and other socio-demographic and clinical data variables among post-operative patients thus adequacy of sleep identified here.2 Conclusion: The present study was to assess the level of quality of sleep among postoperative patients admitted in JMMC and RI,Thrissur. At the end of the study the investigators team found that majority 63 (69.23%) of post-operative patients have sleep disturbances only 28 (30.6%) had adequate sleep. This reflects that specific nursing care protocols for quality sleep in post-operative patients need to be developed and implemented.3","PeriodicalId":129862,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advances in Nursing Management","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124446654","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was conducted in selected wards (cardiology and nephrology) of JMMC &RI, Thrissur. The study population included hypertensive patients above the age of 40 years. Teaching was provided and data collected from 40 samples were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Major findings of the study were that the overall mean post-test score (26.88) was significantly higher than the mean pre-test knowledge score (16.10). This showed the effectiveness of the planned teaching programme on DASH diet. This finding is supported by a study by Suneesh PM in Unicare hospital at Rajkot. The study was to assess the effectiveness of STP on knowledge regarding DASH diet in controlling blood pressure among hypertensive patients. The mean pre-test knowledge score is 6.63 and the post-test knowledge score is 15. The objective of the study was to assess the effectiveness of laughter therapy on level of stress among senior citizen residing in selected old age homes. A Quasi-experimental one group pre-test and post-test group design was chosen for the study without randomization. The samples were selected for the study by adopting purposive sampling technique. The sample selected for the present study was decided to be 30. The data collected by structured interview with Rating scale – Perceived stress scale administrated to assess the level of stress among senior citizens residing in selected age homes. The tool was used to collect the data which consist of two parts. Part -I: Consist of demographic variables of senior citizens. Part-II : Rating scale – Perceived stress scale. The content of the Rating scale- Perceived stress scale were checked and evaluated by 5 experts. The experts were five nursing experts specialized in Mental Health Nursing. The data collected were analysed through descriptive (mean, frequency and percentage) and inferential statistics (‘t’ test and Chi- square) to test the hypothesis. Study shows that pre-test level of stress among selected 30 samples of senior citizen with stress residing in old age homes, reported 08(26.67%) High perceived stress, 19(63.33%) Moderate stress and 03(10%) reported on low stress. The pre test reported 08 (26.67%) high perceived stress and 19(63.33%) Moderate stress and 03(10%) reported on low stress. After the laughter therapy on stress among senior citizens 23(76.67%) reported Moderate level, 07(23.33) reported low level of stress and there was nil reported on high perceived stress. It also revealed that the mean score of pre test was and post test was 15.33. The Mean difference was 11.7. The standard deviation of pre test was 4.82 and post test was3.04. Degree of freedom (df) was 29. The obtained ‘t’ value 11.23.
