The purpose of the system is for access control to a building or an office. The main feature of the system is face detection and face recognition robust to illumination changes. A novel template matching technique using multiple mean faces (MMF) of various sizes, luminance, and rotations is employed to achieve robust face detection. The system is also capable of operating in two different modes for face recognition: under normal illumination condition and under severe illumination changes.","PeriodicalId":124749,"journal":{"name":"ISIE 2001. 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics Proceedings (Cat. In general, a multi-agent behavior algorithm is simple and effective for small number of robots. However, as the number of robots increases, this becomes difficult to realize because a multi-robot behavior algorithm requires multiple constraints and goals in mobile robot navigation problems. As the solution to the above problem, the authors propose an architecture of a fuzzy-neuro system for obstacle avoidance. The controller adopts a simple reactive navigation strategy by combining repulsion from obstacles with attraction to a goal. Simulation results shows that the proposed strategy is effective for multi-robot to avoid obstacles while maintaining a formation.","PeriodicalId":124749,"journal":{"name":"ISIE 2001. 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics Proceedings (Cat. This is due to the difficulty of current control implementation for current source PWM converters. In this paper, an effective method to apply a three-phase current-source PWM converter with a deadbeat controller to an APF is presented. In this APF, the compensation of current harmonics is attained by setting the control purpose, compensating the instantaneous reactive current component in the load current and reducing the ripple in the instantaneous effective current component. In a three-phase current source PWM converter, the time-optimal response of the utility AC grid side input current is two-dimensional finite time settling response, in which two sampling periods are required for a settling time. To cancel this delay, and one more delays caused by the DSP control strategy, a reference value three sampling periods ahead has to be predicted. For this prediction, the reference value detected previously can be useful, because the waveform of harmonic current is periodical in many cases. Finally, it is proven, from an experimental point of view, that the compensating ability of this APF is very high.","PeriodicalId":124749,"journal":{"name":"ISIE 2001. 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics Proceedings (Cat. The converter parallel operation requires completely automatic load current sharing, a simple feedback controller, high reliability and easy maintenance. In this paper, to share load current equally with two identical converters, load current error feedback is carried out at the two converters respectively, which have a single current transformer (CT). It is called the zero current transformer (ZCT) method. This paper presents fault detection when one converter is broken. To supply power to the load stably, the faulted converter is detected and isolated. The authors suggest a solution by simulation and experiment.","PeriodicalId":124749,"journal":{"name":"ISIE 2001. 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics Proceedings (Cat. The advantages of TFMs are high force density per volume and high efficiency because the resistance loss of winding end-turns is absent and the magnetic circuit is separated from the electric circuit. The authors designed two kinds of TFM, which are a variable reluctance type and a permanent magnet-shield type. The TFM with the PM-shield has a permanent magnet on the teeth of stator to shield it from airgap leakage flux, thereby increasing the power density. By analyzing these motors using 2-D and 3-D FEM and experimental measurements, the authors show the effect of the PM-shield.","PeriodicalId":124749,"journal":{"name":"ISIE 2001. 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics Proceedings (Cat. The complicated design procedure of the torque controller is avoided for the estimation by finding the optimal phase current waveforms directly. In order to do this, the current waveform is parametrized so that it can represent all kinds of possible waveforms by using a series of B-spline basis functions. The optimal determination of the current waveform is described for various torque ripple conditions.","PeriodicalId":124749,"journal":{"name":"ISIE 2001. 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics Proceedings (Cat.
