By measuring current interference temperature before data transmission, cognitive node is able to determine transmit power and data rate that should be used to achieve desired capacity without violating interference temperature limit at other co-channel transceiver. Simulations of NS-2 are shown to simultaneously satisfy the three main objectives of extending battery life of cognitive node through optimum transmit power provision, maximizing the traffic carrying of networks capacity and limit interference to other coexist node. Hence, cognitive node is feasible to support QoS provisioning, and fairness among WSN and WLAN users.","PeriodicalId":122964,"journal":{"name":"2008 Second Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation (AMS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116058114","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a valid simulation model may give several advantages in creating better manufacturing design in order to improve the system performances. This paper presents result of implementing a computer based simulation model to design Manufacturing Process Re-engineering for performances improvement. The basic problem is that the current manufacturing system performances have to be improved to deal with the business environment. Projects objective is to design four improvement alternatives design using valid computer simulation model. Three approaches applied as the foundation in creating improvement alternative of the real system are Line Balancing, Facilities re-layout and process enhancement, and manufacturing process. Simulation models were developed using ARENA version 7.1 while Statfit and Microsoft Excel were used for statistical analysis. The case study was taken from the Job Shop Manufacturing line of Body Welding and Metal Finish operations of truck assembly line. The result derived from simulation model of current system and four proposed simulation models that are based on three approaches are analyzed and presented to be considered as new strategy in improving the truck assembly line.","PeriodicalId":122964,"journal":{"name":"2008 Second Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation (AMS)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114570887","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This Paper presents a cooperative localization method based on vision in wireless sensor networks. Based on the video vision characteristics, the distances between sensor nodes in the network are obtained with respect to some 3 chosen nodes whose locations are a- priori known. These in turn allow the estimation of the coordinates of each node. An averaging method is employed to refine the estimation. Some vision experiments are presented that demonstrate the performance of the proposed method and that refinement to the distance estimation.","PeriodicalId":122964,"journal":{"name":"2008 Second Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation (AMS)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128204992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, existing mobility management techniques need to evolve with the technological evolution in mobile networks which is offering different multimedia based services using internet and various other class based traffic as opposed to only conventional voice telephony with guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) to the end user. Channel assignment schemes are key to the mobility management. In the literature, different channel assignment schemes have been devised for handovers occurring during multimedia based calls. We propose pre-emptive channel assignment scheme with fair queue scheduling based on buffer occupancy under certain QoS constraints in this paper. The proposed scheme is evaluated in a simulation environment and three different complex models/scenarios are used to validate the results. The multimedia traffic has been modelled by using MMPP (Markov Modulated Poisson Process) whereas we use conventional Poisson Process to model the voice calls. The performance study shows that the proposed pre-emptive channel assignment scheme results in reduced dropping probability at higher handoff rates as compared to other channel reservation schemes and demonstrates how the performance trade off is obtained in terms of call dropping, call blocking and mean queue lengths.","PeriodicalId":122964,"journal":{"name":"2008 Second Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation (AMS)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123881411","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is, however, now with nanotubes possible to make structures that confine carriers in two dimensions, so that they are free to move only in one direction. The nanowires and nanotubes are being considered as best candidates for high-speed applications because of the high mobility due to the suppression of the ionized impurity scattering especially at low temperatures. It is shown that the high mobility does not always lead to higher carrier velocity. Using the distribution function that takes into account the asymmetrical distribution of drifting electrons in an electric field is presented .This distribution function transforms the random motion of electrons into a streamlined one that gives the ultimate saturation velocity that is a function of temperature in nondegenerate regime and a function of carrier concentration in the degenerate regime The ultimate drift velocity is found to be appropriate thermal velocity for a given dimensionality for nondegenerately doped samples. However, the ultimate drift velocity is the appropriate average of the Fermi velocity for degenerately doped samples.","PeriodicalId":122964,"journal":{"name":"2008 Second Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation (AMS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124692514","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Alfred","doi":"10.1109/AMS.2008.131","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/AMS.2008.131","url":null,"abstract":"This paper addresses the question whether or not the descriptive accuracy of the DARA (Dynamic Aggregation of Relational Attributes) algorithm benefits from the feature construction process. This involves solving the problem of constructing a set of relevant features used to generate patterns representing records in the TF-IDF weighted frequency matrix in order to cluster these records. In this paper, feature construction will be applied to enhance the results of the data summarisation approach in learning data stored in multiple tables with high cardinality of one-to-many relations. It is expected that the predictive accuracy of a classfication problem can be improved by improving the descriptive accuracy of the data summarisation approach, provided that the summarised data is fed into the target table as one of the features considered in the classification task.","PeriodicalId":122964,"journal":{"name":"2008 Second Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation (AMS)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127932927","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Diagnostic Quality of Compressed Medical Images: Objective and Subjective Evaluation","authors":"S. E. Ghrare, M. Ali, Munira Ismail, K. Jumari","doi":"10.1109/AMS.2008.10","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/AMS.2008.10","url":null,"abstract":"Without image compression, images data would become much larger and consequently retrieval of images will be slow, thus telemedicine would in many situations be impractical. But it is natural to raise the question of how much an image can be compressed and still preserve sufficient information for a given clinical application. Evaluation of the diagnostic quality of compressed medical image still remains an important issue. In this paper, three different medical image modalities have been compressed and decompressed using DWT for different compression ratios and evaluated using objective and subjective testing. The quality of the reconstructed images has been measured using objective measures such as MSE, MAE, SNR, and PSNR. Ten observers have been involved to carry out the subjective evaluation. Based on the quality of the reconstructed images, the PSNR obtained has been between 35.3 dB to 58.0 dB for CT scan images, 38.6 dB to 55.0 dB for MRI and 34.5 dB to 51 MB for X-ray images. For radiology applications, the compression ratio of 30:1 is acceptable for CT images, and a compression ratio of 40:1 is acceptable for MRI, and compression ratio of 20:1 is acceptable for X-ray images.","PeriodicalId":122964,"journal":{"name":"2008 Second Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation (AMS)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121177003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
