This increase has raised a concern related to the system frequency response after a disturbance, since the wind turbine generators do not present an inherent inertia response. As a result, different system operators around the world require a synthetic inertia from wind farms (WF). In this work, an analysis of the frequency support performed by wind farms, composed of doubly fed induction generators (DFIG) wind turbines, is performed. Simulations are carried out in ANATEM, a CEPEL software, using a modified version of the Western System Coordinating Council (WSCC) test power system. The simulations comprise different operating conditions and allows evaluating the wind farm contribution to improve the system frequency after a disturbance.","PeriodicalId":120262,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124658492","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the vast majority of existing low voltage networks were not expected to absorb a large volume of distributed generation, mainly residential feeders, which generally have low demand during the day, when photovoltaic generation reaches its peak production, which it can cause a reversal of the energy flow in the feeder, resulting in a series of technical losses for the energy distributors. This article presents a method using Monte Carlo Method (MMC) to analyze the losses associated with high photovoltaic insertion in secondary distribution networks, in order to guarantee quality electrical energy, without jeopardizing the expansion of photovoltaic generation. To perform the simulations and allocations, the algorithm is implemented in Python programming language, which uses the OpenDSS COM interface for power flow calculations.","PeriodicalId":120262,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128277381","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mechanisms such as feed-in tariffs have made investment viable in this type of technology. However, in the medium term these technologies will be competitive, and these promotion mechanisms will gradually be phase out. On the other hand, reducing the intermittency of these plants requires economic incentives. This paper proposes a complementary economic incentive for Renewable Energy Resources (RER) production, aimed at increasing their production in the electricity market taking into account their probability of meeting the dispatched energy requirements. This methodology was tested for solar and wind plants that actually operate in the electric power system of Peru, considering three different demand scenarios. The proposed economic incentive constitutes an alternative to promote the investments to increase the reliability in the production of renewable energy sources especially, for the technologies who have reached competitive market conditions.","PeriodicalId":120262,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130263855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, efficient simulation tools that can predict the EV operation and deployment are significant assets for charging point operators (CPOs), electric mobility service providers (EMSPs), charging service providers (CSPs) and electricity companies. In this paper, an algorithm for simulating the utilization and availability of public EV charging stations (CSs) has been developed. Based on several EV user features, the proposed algorithm generates realistic scenarios of CS availability, utilization, and impact over the distribution network via AC power flows. Moreover, the impact of considering smart charging (i.e., remote CS power limit control) and price policies is also modeled by the proposed algorithm. With these enhancements, the proposed simulation tool is used to predict the aggregated behavior of a population of EV users within the vicinity of two real distribution feeders. Results show the capacity of the proposed algorithm to generate realistic CS utilization statistics subject to different smart charging and price policies.","PeriodicalId":120262,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121136659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The key point is to assess the effect of different commercial tariffs on the system optimal size and total cost. Three kind of tariffs are considered, each one oriented to: i) only grid connection, ii) prosumers, and iii) users with EV. Modified tariffs considering prosumers and EV are explored. The model is posed as a linear two stage stochastic optimization problem with uncertainty in PV generation and demand. In the case study it is applied to three real tariffs in Spain and a sensitivity analysis is performed on: PV cost, battery cost, and price for the PV generation sold to the grid.","PeriodicalId":120262,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125612670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is composed by a photovoltaic system, storage system and an electronic load. In this type of system, when the power available from the photovoltaic arrangements is larger than the load demand, the excessive power generation leads to overvoltage on the DC bus. Besides that, due to the partial shading of the PV panels, the DC bus can become dynamically unstable. So, a power balance control (PBC) strategy is used to stabilize the system and avoid overvoltage problems. To achieves such a goal, the implemented topology provides two DC bus voltage levels, 150 Vdc and 300 V dc, where the first is responsible for the power transfer between the PV and the battery and the second is provide for the power transfer to the load. The algorithm monitors the power level generated by the PV and the load's energy demand and constantly balances the power generation and consumption with the help of an electronic load control. Simulation results are presented to validate the proposed strategy.","PeriodicalId":120262,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132119428","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
