The objective function considers the investment costs of reconductoring existing branches and adding new branches, and operation costs, accounting for maintenance, energy losses, and voltage violations costs. Reliability is considered in the optimization model through the energy not supplied, system average interruption duration, and system average interruption frequency indexes, using a reward-penalty formulation. Numerical results are presented for a 54-node distribution system, comparing the expansion plans obtained when reliability assessment is considered or not in the objective function. The obtained results show the relevance of considering reliability indexes in the expansion planning of PDS.","PeriodicalId":120262,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115411615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current practice of having independent analysis and control of electrical, gas and heat networks should be abandoned for multi-carrier energy system analysis. Multi-carrier energy systems have coupling points in gas power plants, CHP and gas-CHP power plants, as well as at the consumption end. Smart homes and net metering enable consumers to control their energy demand and make decisions between electrical, gas or heat energy consumption, consequently affecting all three energy grids. A simplified coupled multi-carrier energy system is the combination of district heating and electricity networks. Combined Heat and Power (CHP) units, heat pumps and electric boilers create linkages between electricity and heat networks. This paper shows decomposed electrical-hydraulic-thermal calculation technique for multi-carrier energy system analysis.","PeriodicalId":120262,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115513594","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

NZEH will be able to generate and transfer as much energy as demanded from the grid. To achieve this there has been an increase and adoption of photovoltaic (PV) system for generation within the home system. A battery energy storage system (BESS) will allow for demand dispatch and to overcome the intermittent nature of PV generation. An optimal BESS size will be cost effective, reduce wastage and ensure efficient system operation. An optimal sizing algorithm is implemented and a novel constraint introduced to enforce net zero transfer. The algorithm is assessed on a residential load profile. This asset management model is based on the ISO 55001 standard; after validating the state-of-the-art it has been found that there is no proposal for the management of this type of assets, due to this, the proposed model adopts international standard processes such as: documentation, monitoring, change management, auditing and maintenance. For the implementation of the asset management system (AMS) of control centers, management indicators of the SCADA infrastructure assets are proposed, which is monitored in real time, and the data is stored in long-term historical records. The indicators were implemented in four control centers in Latin America. The calculation of the proposed indicators allows the system administrator to make decisions in the control center maintenance process based on the condition of the assets.","PeriodicalId":120262,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114225695","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These aspects make them an extremely attractive option for application in EVs, in which they can be used for an estimated period of a decade. However, when removed from these vehicles, as they no longer provide the necessary requirements for this application, the batteries still have about 80% of their available storage capacity. For this reason, combined with its internal characteristics and the massive application in electric mobility, it is estimated that a significant portion of the batteries removed from EVs will be destined for a second use. In this scenario, CPFL Energia, in cooperation with CPQD and BYD Brazil, is developing an R&D project, which aims to assess the remaining useful life of LiBs removed from EVs in a second application. The EV batteries can be reused in stationary energy storage systems, which was the application considered to carry out an economic analysis that allowed the pricing of second-life cells at US$ 90.1/kWh. Thus, in parallel, laboratory tests were performedto characterize the cells, and algorithms are being developed to be integrated in these systems, with the purpose of allow the analysis of their health status and the forecast of remaining useful life in this second use, which is the motivation for the elaboration of this paper.","PeriodicalId":120262,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114760759","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, an operation strategy is developed at steady state operation to then find the dynamic response at N-l contingencies. A coordinated strategy is performed by evaluating the impact of the SVC operation at not only the controlled bus but the entire transmission system. This work constitutes a relevant base for analysing operation strategies for FACTS devices with an integral view (that is the impact on the wide area of the power system) and not just considering the local effects. The proposed operation strategy is validated on Ecuador realistic data with the aim to get the most benefits of such devices in coordination with other power system apparatus.","PeriodicalId":120262,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128127410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although the total energy supplied by DERs is still less than the total annual load demand, their instantaneous power output can exceed the demand of the system at certain times. That leads to rising in the voltage magnitude and may result in a violation of the system's voltage limits. To combat this issue, a volt-watt control capability is required for systems with high DERs penetration. In this control scheme, DERs are required to curtail their real power output in response to voltage rise. In this paper, an MINLP model is developed to determine the parameters of the controller with the objective to maximize the power injected by the DERs, while maintaining the voltage within limits. Also, the model takes fairness among DERs into consideration.","PeriodicalId":120262,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134236088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This type of protection has been investigated lately as a promising approach to ensure coordination and selectivity in grid-connected and islanded microgrids against short-circuit occurrences. The study considered the voltage-based protection applied in six scenarios of microgrid operation, varying the connection (grid-connected and islanded) and the types of distributed energy resources (synchronous generator, photovoltaic system, and battery energy storage system). The short-circuit analyses considered single-line and three-phase faults applied to the 14 bus CIGRE for different fault resistances. The voltages during the faults were obtained through time-domain simulations by using the PSCAD/EMTDC software. These voltages and the relays' time-voltage curves were used to calculate the relays' operating times. The extensive study presented in this paper revealed that the method was promising for microgrid protection since the voltage-based relay with an adaptive parameter can ensure coordination in grid-connected and islanded scenarios. In addition, the voltage-based relay showed to be sensitive to variations in the fault resistance.","PeriodicalId":120262,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131129538","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
