Therefore, we developed a new technique to control precisely the channel spacing by a UV-trimming technique using polysilane as the over-cladding layer. As a result, we successfully decreased the channel spacing to 0.5 nm, and also controlled the channel spacing precisely to 1.0 nm using the same trimming technique.","PeriodicalId":117784,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2002 IEEE/LEOS Workshop on Fibre and Optical Passive Components (Cat.No.02EX595)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-08-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121693113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A 10 Gbit/s or 40 Gbit/s modulated laser signal is transmitted through a standard single mode fiber (SSMF) followed by a dispersion compensation fiber (DCF) (postcompensation). Due to cross-phase modulation, four-wave mixing and self-phase modulation crosstalk which influences the optimum length of the DCF can be detected. The filter bandwidth and length of the DCF have been optimized to achieve a low eye-opening penalty for various signal powers and two different data-rates.","PeriodicalId":117784,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2002 IEEE/LEOS Workshop on Fibre and Optical Passive Components (Cat.No.02EX595)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-08-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131951643","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The increment of refractive index after electron-beam irradiation is mainly due to compaction of the irradiated material. In this paper, we present results on the densification behaviour as a function of different parameters such as size of patterns written, Ge-concentration and dose, the understanding of which is needed for the design of integrated optical circuits with the required properties.","PeriodicalId":117784,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2002 IEEE/LEOS Workshop on Fibre and Optical Passive Components (Cat.No.02EX595)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-08-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130562535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The intermixing process is based on point defects generated on the sample surface during the deposition of sputtered SiO/sub 2/ and a subsequent rapid thermal annealing. It is demonstrated that for small wavelength shifts (60-80 nm), losses are considerably lower than in samples with maximum band edge shift (150 nm).
