The extracts from leaves of Moringa oleifera or beans of green coffee were found to treat metabolic disorders as good sources of polyphenols and flavonoids. Also, coffee is a rich source of dietary antioxidants and chlorogenic acid. The present study aimed to evaluate the protective effect of the ethanolic extract of Moringa oleifera (MO) and beans of green coffee (GC) in alloxan induced diabetic rats, the stress oxidant, hepatic-kidney dysfunction and histological changes in liver and kidneys of different experimental groups of rats. The extracts were administered using the gastric tube of rats. Results ascertained that orally administration with ethanolic extract of green coffee beans and Moringa leaves significantly reduced serum glucose level (P < 0.05), improved serum lipid profiles, liver function enzymes and kidney functions in diabetic rats after 28 days. Histological sections of the liver and kidney tissues showed the protective effects of MO and GC in the treated rats. It is noteworthy that there is a synergistic effect between Moringa leaves and green coffee beans.","PeriodicalId":11430,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"105 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88976351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, this investigation aimed to examine on various aspects of healthy multigrain whole meal to produce unleavened flat bread with new formulations with reference to economy and future scope. Multigrain unleavened flat bread was produced from whole meal barley or whole meal oat (4060 %) with four different concentrations of corn (5-20%); sorghum (5-15%); rice flour (10 %) and wheat flour (20 %). Chemical composition, minerals, microbial load, texture and consumer acceptability were determined. There were significant differences between protein, crude fiber, ether extract, ash and the total carbohydrates contents of all produced bread blends as well as the control sample. All prepared bread had acceptable score values of taste, chewing ability, texture, aroma and color which were nonsignificantly different compared with the control bread. Minerals content increased by increasing oat and barley concentrations. Texture profile parameters (hardness, springiness, chewiness & cohesiveness) increased by increasing the percentage of composite multigrain flours in the blends. All blends of oat and barley recorded the lowest values for total and yeast count (TBC and Y.C) during storage. Hence, high substitutions could considerably reduce the cost of raw materials and could nutritionally improve products with cereal blends.","PeriodicalId":11430,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"38 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87268128","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Uptill now, there are a few studies about weed seed bank in Egypt. For this reason, establishing weed seed bank studies isneeded for weed management in Egypt.The present study was carried out during 2018 and 2019 winter seasons toevaluatethe magnitude of the non-dormant weed seed bank of winter annual weeds in five different basins at Giza Research Station.Weed seed germination was kept under observation for a period of six weeks andthe germinated seeds were counted weekly and removed after that.The results indicated that most of weed seeds were concentrated in the above 0-5cm layer followed by 5-10cm layer, and the lowest ones were found in 10-15cm layerfrom soil surface.Most of weed seeds were germinated in the 1 st and 2 nd weeks, and decreased gradually in the next weeks, where about 95% of weed seeds in soil profile were germinated in the first five weeks. The existed weed flora contained 18 species which differedin their densities from one basin to another.The highest number of germinated weed seeds were recorded in basin 20 (375.5 and 456.88 seedlings/kg of soil) in 1 st and 2 nd seasons, respectively, while the east number of germinated weed seeds was found in basins 19 and 6 (65.56 and 87.69 seedlings/kg of soil) in 1 st and 2 nd seasons, respectively. By using ANOVA statistical analysis experimental error decreased by taking 3-4 soil samples, to give adequate accuracy for soil seed bank determination than taking one soil sample.In conclusion weed seed bank determination in soil is a key for sustainable agriculture in Egypt. The present study throws the light on vertical or horizontal distributions in soil profile in seed bank as a good tool for improving weed management in cropping system in Egypt.","PeriodicalId":11430,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"73 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73663161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results revealed that fish farm waste water irrigation (Aqua) was significantly more efficient than ground water irrigation on growth traits (crop growth rate (CGR), relative growth rate (RGR) and net assimilation rate (NAR)) as well as root yield (ton/fed) in both seasons. Vice versa, ground water irrigation surpassed fish farm wastewater irrigation in quality parameters (sucrose, purity and extractable sugar (ES) percentages). Significant increases in growth traits and yield were detected for growth regulators especially 300 ppm of gibberellic acid concentrations compared to control unit (zero ppm) during both seasons. On the other hand, quality parameters of sugar beet plants were enhanced under the control unit (zero ppm) followed by the application of 300 ppm of indole acetic acid compared to other growth regulators treatments in both seasons. The objective was to study the effect of foliar applications (0 and 150 ppm /fed of boron) and nitrogen fertilization levels (80, 100 and 120 kg N/fed) on response, yield and quality of three sugar beet varieties (Betamax, Dena and Sara) in sandy soil. A split-split plot design with three replicates was used. The seeds of the three varieties were sown on the 1 week of October and harvested after 210 days in both seasons. The obtained results showed that foliar application of 150 ppm boric acid/fed recorded a significant increase in root fresh weight and root yield values in both seasons compared to the control. While, foliar application of boron caused a positive reduction effect on impurities (Na, K and alpha amino-N). However, it corrected sugar %, quality of sugar index and sugar yield. Soil application of 100 kg N/fed resulted in significant increases in root fresh weight, roots and tops yields (t/fed) in both seasons, compared with plots treated with 80 kg N/fed, respectively. Fertilizing sugar beet plants with 100 kg N/fed was enough to produce the highest percentages of sucrose, corrected sugar %, quality of sugar index and corrected sugar yield in both seasons. Sara variety showed superior values over the other two varieties in LAI, root fresh weight and roots as well as tops yields t/fed in both seasons. While, Betamax variety attained the least values of the impurity contents in both seasons. The highest means of root weight, roots and top yields resulted from applying boron at 150 ppm boron/fed and 100 kg N/fed in both seasons. Foliar application of 150 ppm boron/fed on Sara variety plants produced the highest values for root fresh weight and root yield in both seasons. Significant positive association was obtained between corrected sugar yield and root yield, leaf area index, top yield, sucrose %, nitrogen and quality index. Corrected sugar yield was highly significantly correlated with root fresh weight and sucrose %; while, significant negative correlation were shown between quality index and both potassium and sodium. These traits will enable the agronomists to realize high income of sugar yield in sugar beet varieties. Use of factor analysis has the potential of increasing the comprehension of the casual relationship of variables and can help to determine the nature and sequence of traits to be evaluation sugar beet varieties trails. Applying these conditions could be recommended for growing sugar beet varieties with 100 kg N/fed fertilization and boron application at the rate of 150 ppm boron/fed increase roots, tops and corrected sugar yield t/fed.","PeriodicalId":11430,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84043427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study aimed to calculate the cost of raising a cubic meter of well water according to different desalination, and energy systems (solar electrical diesel), as well as calculating the cost of desalination of a cubic meters of well water. To achieve these objectives of the current study, several economic indicators were used, the most important of which were: the total cost per hour of operation, and the cost of lifting per cubic meter of well water subject to study. The study also estimated the cost of desalination of well water needed for human and animal use. The most important results of the study could be summarized as follow: the least costs of pumps were those of the solar energy pumps, where the cost of lifting amounted to about 0.35 pounds / hour, followed by electric pumps, where the cost of lifting amounted to about 0.80 pounds / hour, and by diesel pumps, where the cost of lifting amounted to 2.15 pounds / hour, assuming the existence of support. It was also clear that the processing units that operate with a production capacity of 20 thousand cubic meters per day are more efficient than the processing units that operate with a production capacity of 10 thousand cubic meters per day .Where the desalination cost a treated per unit of 20 thousand cobic meters perday was 0.76 L.E.Lm,while for processing units that have a production capacity of 10,000 cubic meters per day, the cost of desalination is about 1.27 pounds / cubic meters.","PeriodicalId":11430,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"20 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89495896","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
