It was found that the ECe ranged between 0.68 and 132 dSm -1 and from 0.92 to 82 dSm -1 within the upper 10 cm and the (10 – 50 cm) soil layers, respectively. The data showed that 91.23 % and 78.97 % of the study area within the upper10cm and the (10 – 50 cm) layers respectively have ECe > 4 dSm -1 . About 47.62 and 30.39 % of the district soils have ECe values > 10 dSm -1 within the upper and subsurface layers, respectively, indicating that saltaffected soils are distributed throughout the study area. About 92.53 % of soils were calcareous (> 10 % CaCO3 equivalent) due to the nature of parent material from which soils of the study area are evolved. Soil pH more than 7.5 was found in about 46.69 % and less than 1 % of soils have pH values > 8.0 with a greatest pH value of 8.2. The organic matter contents seldom exceeded 2 % in Youssef El-Sedik soils. Several different soil texture classes were found, however 46.38 % and 42.65 % of the soils were of clay texture within the (0 – 10 cm) and (10 – 50 cm) layers, respectively.","PeriodicalId":11430,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"248 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80658297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study monitored the growth, above ground biomass, water use efficiency, nutrients and heavy metals content of these species throughout three seasons (2016, 2017 and 2018). The study was laid out on a randomized complete block design in split plot layout with three replications. There were 12 treatments including three irrigation treatments (A1) approximately 130 %; (A2) 100 %; and (A3) 70 % of evapotranspiration. These amounts of water was applied as main plot and four types of micro irrigation systems: bubblers (Bub.), on line dripper (Drip.), built-in dripper (G.R.) and sub-surface drip irrigation (SSD), as sub-plot factor. The results showed that using bubblers system together with the application of 10.3 l tree -1 day -1 of wastewater could be recommended in Sarabium area where water is not a limiting factor to provide the highest growth parameters and biomass production of Gmelina arborea, Khaya senegalensis and Tectona grandis tree species. Also, values of water use efficiency indicated that 0.76, 1.01, 1.33 and 2.4 m 3 of water were needed to produce one kilogram of dry matter yield using Bub., Drip., G.R., and SSD in Gmelina arborea; 0.59, 0.74, 0.97, and 2.0m 3 in Khaya senegalensis and 0.24, 0.40, 0.57, and 0.76 m 3 in Tectona grandis, respectively. This means that water savings were achieved with the Bub. system in comparing with Drip., G.R. and SSD were 0.25, 57, and 1.64 m 3 in Gmelina arborea; 0.15, 0.38, 1.41 m 3 in Khaya senegalensis and 0.16, 0.33 and 0.52 m 3 in Tectona grandis, respectively. The results of the present study could contribute in the Egyptian sustainable development strategy 2030, as it achieves the target of “managing the natural resources\" through forestation the desert land and reuse the wastewater to produce woody biomass.","PeriodicalId":11430,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"25 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78701995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Station, Gharbia Governorte, Egypt, during 2015 and 2016 summer seasons. The objective of this work was to study the effect of nitrogen fertilizer rates and small-flower umbrella (Cyperus difformis L.) competition on broadcast rice productivity and nutrient uptake. Each experiment included eighteen treatments. (The combination of three nitrogen fertilizer rates 50, 70 and 90 kg N fed -1 , and six of Cyperus difformis L. densities, i.e., zero, 10, 20, 40, 80 and 100 (naturally infestation) plant m -2 ). A split plot design, with four replications, was used. The results revealed that increasing nitrogen rates increased significantly the studied broadcast rice growth parameters, yield and its components, in both seasons. Where the application of 70 and 90 kg N fed -1 increased grain yield by 11.45 and 18.91 % in the first season and 12.92 and 18.92 % in the second season, respectively, compared to the lowest nitrogen fertilizer rate. Also, increasing nitrogen fertilizer rates had significant effect on most of NPK % of both broadcast rice and Cyperus difformis L. plants at 60 and 80 days after sowing. N, P and K % decreased with growth in both broadcast rice and Cyperus difformis L. plants and were higher in Cyperus difformis L. than broadcast rice in N% showing that Cyperus difformis L. plants is a major competitor of broadcast rice plants for N nutrient. Moreover, the addition of nitrogen fertilizer rates significant affected N, P and K %, NPK uptake and protein% in broadcast rice grain. Application of 70 and 90 kg N fed -1 increased protein % in grain broadcast rice by 9.54 % and 11.23 % respectively in the second season, compared to 50 kg N fed -1 . On the contrary, increasing Cyperus difformis L. density m -2 had an adverse effect on broadcast rice growth, yield and its components in both seasons. Increasing number of Cyperus difformis L. plants from 10 to 100 m -2 reduced the grain yield by 5.37 to 47.43 % in the first season and 7.98 to 48.88 %, in the second season compared to Cyperus difformis L. free treatment. Positive significant effects were detected for Cyperus difformis L. density m -2 on N, P and K % of both broadcast rice and Cyperus difformis L. plants at 60 and 80 days after sowing as well as broadcast rice grain contents of N, P and K and protein in both seasons. Increasing Cyperus difformis L. plants from 10 to 100 m -2 decreased grain protein % from 0.17 to 2.11 % in the first season and 0.17 and 1.09 % in the second season compared with Cyperus difformis L. free plots. The interaction between 90 kg N fertilization rate and zero Cyperus difformis L. plant m -2 gave the highest broadcast rice grain yield (4.21 and 4.15 ton fed -1 ) compared with 50 kg N fertilization rate and 100 Cyperus difformis L. plant m -2 which gave (1.84 and 1.71 ton fed -1 ) in the first and second seasons, respectively. The main findings of this investigation indicate that Cyperus difformis L. By reviewing the available relevant literature concerning service quality assurance, four key dimensions could be considered as essential components of the proposed scale ,namely:1) Tangibles and core of service; 2) Human element of extension service delivery; 3) Systematization of extension service delivery (nonhuman element); and 4) Social responsibility of extension system. In order to achieve the study objective, 50 opinion leaders from the New Valley Governorate were selected to be the sample of the study. Data were collected during March 2018 through personal interviews using a questionnaire form. Percentages, average, standard deviation, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and reliability and validity analysis tests were used for data presentation and analysis. Reliability coefficient (Cronbach's Alpha) was about 0.964, and internal validity coefficient was 0.982. By testing the internal validation using Pearson’s correlation coefficient, the final version of the scale contained 43 statements of which: 9 for Tangibles and core of service component; 13 for Human element of extension service delivery; 10 for Systematization of extension service delivery (non-human element), and 11 for Social responsibility of extension system.","PeriodicalId":11430,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"82 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81039924","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study is concerned with evaluating the prevalence of antibiotic resistant bacteria (ARB) in raw and treated Nile water and sewage. It is obvious that, the drinking water treatment in all drinking water treatment plants (DWTPs) was microbiologically effective as the total bacterial community and antibiotics resistant bacteria were completely removed from treated Nile water and tap water samples. Only, in El-Giza DWTP, the bacterial populations reappeared in tap water with low values comparing with raw Nile water. The counts of bacterial population, gentamycin, ciprofloxacin, doxycycline and amoxicillin resistant bacteria in tap water represented 0.0008, 0.72, 1.02, 90.9 and 0.6% of the counts in raw Nile water, respectively. Also, it was observed that, the counts of total bacteria, gentamycin, ciprofloxacin, doxycycline and amoxicillin resistant bacteria decreased in treated sewage at a reduction percentage of 54.5, 76.9, 73.3, 84.0 and 77.3%, respectively. Additionally, the counts of total coliforms, doxycycline and amoxicillin resistant bacteria decreased at a reduction ration of 99.7, 98.1and 95.7%, respectively in treated sewage. Most bacterial isolates from raw Nile water and sewage were multi antibiotic resistant Gram-negative short rods.","PeriodicalId":11430,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"78 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89917138","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
