Intracanal medications have been thought to be an important step in reducing microorganisms. Different means were introduced for the removal of intracanal medications, so there is a need to investigate which irrigation method should be used to remove the intracanal medication to achieve a complete coronal and apical seal of the disinfected canals. Aim: To compare the effectiveness of removal of Calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) and Double antibiotic paste (DAP) with Propylene glycol (PG) and Glycerol vehicles using Passive Ultrasonic irrigation (PUI) and XP-Endo Finisher. Material and methods: 80 single-rooted extracted human teeth were categorized into 4 groups (n=20) based on the intracanal medicament used GroupA1; Ca(OH) 2 + PG GroupA2; Ca(OH) 2 + Glycerol. GroupA3; DAP + PG.GroupA4; DAP + Glycerol. Samples were stored in an incubator for 3 weeks and then subdivided into two groups Subgroup B1; PUI and Subgroup B2; XP-Endo Finisher. Irrigation protocol was NaOCl 2.5% followed by 17% EDTA. Each root half’s picture was photographed using a USB digital microscope.The amount of medication still present in the canal was measured using the NIH image J V1.56 software program. One-way ANOVA and Duncan’s Multiple Range Tests were used for the statistical analysis. Results: The difference between vehicles was not significant when all groups were compared as a total using the PUI method and XP-Endo Finisher (p>0.05). However, the differences in the percentage of remaining intracanal medication between vehicles were significant at apical, middle and coronal levels of PUI and also levels of XP-Endo Finisher. Conclusion: None of the irrigation activation methods used could eliminate any of the medications. Both vehicles did not improve the elimination of the medications used from the root canals. Removal of the medications from the apical level was more difficult than the other levels.","PeriodicalId":11270,"journal":{"name":"Dental Science Updates","volume":"76 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140276664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aim: this study aimed to make a comparison between piezoelectric ultrasound surgery and conventional technique in sinus lifting procedure with simultaneous implant insertion. Materials and Methods: This case series consisted of twenty-four sinus elevations using the buccal lateral approach technique, the patients had defective upper posterior teeth for a long time with pneumatization of the sinus, they had bone height 5-7 mm which was insufficient for routine implant placement. Result: The results were evaluated by one-way analysis of variance. P values of less than 0.05 were considered to indicate a significant difference, bone density and implant stability are measure with CT for 6 months. Conclusion: While implant survival and bone gained are better with the ultrasound technique, perforations of the maxillary sinus membrane are more frequent in direct sinus lifts performed with the rotary technique (7%) than with ultrasound (1.7%).","PeriodicalId":11270,"journal":{"name":"Dental Science Updates","volume":"35 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140276936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Impacted canines can cause variable degrees of resorption on the roots of surrounding teeth, particularly the lateral incisors . Aim: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different angulations of impacted maxillary canine on root resorption of adjacent teeth using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods: The sample included 30 CBCTs presenting with unilateral or bilateral impacted maxillary canines, ranging in age from 15 to 30 years that were collected. from the Department of Radiology, Faculty of Dentistry, Suez Canal University. Canine angulation relative to the maxillary occlusal plane and adjacent lateral incisor was measured, as well as the locations of the impacted canines. Results: The results of the current study showed (58.8 %) with slight resorption and (26.5%) with moderate resorption of lateral incisor root. There was a statistically significant relationship between root resorption severity and angulation of impacted maxillary canine relative to the lateral incisor. The angle of the impacted maxillary canine with the occlusal plane can`t solely rely on determining the severity of root resorption (RR). Conclusion: RR occurs due to the proximity of the impacted maxillary canine to the adjacent lateral incisor","PeriodicalId":11270,"journal":{"name":"Dental Science Updates","volume":"97 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140279813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Treating mandibular fractures is difficult due to probability of complications, and there is presently no consensus on the best therapy. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the role of xeno-hydroxyapetite bone graft in the healing of unfavorable oblique mandibular fractures under rigid fixation. Material and methods: This experimental study included 18 healthy male dogs. Unilateral mandibular fractures were induced for all animals. Animals were divided equally into: Control group (I) where the fracture was fixed with reconstruction bone plate only. Study group (II) where the fracture was fixed with reconstruction bone plate and bone defect was filled with the xeno-hydroxyapetite bone graft. The bone defect site was examined radiographically, Histopathologically and histomorphometrically at 2, 4 and 8 weeks. Results: There was significant increase in bone density with increasing time in both groups. The analysis of histological sections revealed that the newly formed bony spicules in both groups were localized randomly and in discrete puncta within the graft material. Histomorphometry analysis suggests that the bovine bone graft showed well-organized and reconstructed bone similar to native bone tissues. Conclusion: Xeno-hydroxyapetite bone graft is a good choice for the jaw bone reconstruction and can reduce the healing time in the area of the fracture line. Xeno-hydroxyapetite bone graft can be satisfactorily used as grafts in the treatment of unfavorable mandibular fractures.","PeriodicalId":11270,"journal":{"name":"Dental Science Updates","volume":"63 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140280845","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reciproc-Blue is a thermally-treated NiTi single reciprocating system coated by an oxide layer caused by the thermomechanical process improving fatigue resistance. Aim: To evaluate the effect of different kinematics on the cyclic fatigue resistance of the Reciproc-Blue file and examine the influence of different canal curvatures on its cyclic fatigue resistance. Method: Eighty new Reciproc-Blue files divided into four groups (n=20) according to the reciprocation angles 150°CCW– 30°CW, 210°CCW–30°CW, 90°CCW–40°CW and 360°CCW(continuous-rotation), each group was subdivided into two subgroups (n=10) according to the canal curvature 45°and 60°angles. All instruments were operated until the fracture occurred, Cyclic fatigue resistance was determined by recording the time to fracture in seconds. Data were statistically analyzed by applying ANOVA test followed by Post Hoc Tukey test at 95% significance level. Results: all reciprocating motions yielded a significant increase in time to failure when compared to continuous rotation in both canal curvatures. There was a significant difference in time to failure among all reciprocating groups in both canal curvatures. All experimental groups revealed greater cyclic fatigue resistance at 45°compared to 60°angles of curvature. There was no significant difference in the length of the fractured fragment for all tested groups in both canal curvatures. Conclusion: Movement kinematics has a significant influence on the cyclic fatigue life of Reciproc-Blue instruments. Also, Increasing the angle of progression for each reciprocation cycle decreases the cyclic fatigue resistance of NiTi instruments.","PeriodicalId":11270,"journal":{"name":"Dental Science Updates","volume":"413 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140281473","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, Nano Silver Fluoride was presented as a new remineralizing agent. Aim: This study aimed to compare the remineralization potential of three different fluoride varnishes Fluor Protector varnish (FP), Enamel Pro varnish (EP), and Nano Silver Fluoride varnish (NSF) on the enamel of primary teeth. Materials and Methods: 80 samples were gathered, and randomly distributed among three groups: negative control group, demineralized group, and study group which was subdivided into 3 subgroups, subgroup A: Fluor Protector, subgroup B: Enamel Pro and subgroup C: Nano silver fluoride. Pepsi was used for 72 hours to demineralize the Positive control group and the study group. Varnishes were then applied. All teeth were subjected to pH cycle in a demineralization solution/artificial saliva for 10 days. Vicker’s microhardness test, Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX), and Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESM) were used to measure the extent of enamel mineralization. The data were then, statistically evaluated. Results: Enamel Pro showed the highest results followed by Fluor protector and Nano silver fluoride however, there was no statistically significant difference between the three tested groups. Conclusion: The study showed that the Enamel Pro had the highest values in microhardness, EDX, and ESM, but there was no significant statistical difference between the three groups. All the materials used proved their efficiency in remineralization of the demineralized enamel.","PeriodicalId":11270,"journal":{"name":"Dental Science Updates","volume":"160 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140283604","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aim: This secondary analysis study aimed to compare the rate of canine retraction in upper and lower canines facilitated with Flapless Laser corticotomy (FLC). Materials and Methods : The study included 56 canines from 14 patients (2 males /12 females) with a mean age of (20.4±2.5) years diagnosed with bimaxillary dentoalveolar protrusion and treated with 4 premolars extraction with upper and lower fixed appliances. The intervention was applied in a split-mouth fashion, so before commencing the study, 2 random computer-generated lists with a 1:1 allocation ratio were obtained to detect the side of intervention, these lists were concealed in opaque envelopes until the time of intervention. All participants were allocated into 2 groups, I-(Maxillary canines: which were divided into two subgroups A. Control, B. FLC) and II-(Mandibular canines: which were divided into two subgroups A. Control B. FLC). FLC was applied on the experimental sides before canine retraction by performing 6 holes with 3 mm of depth into the alveolar bone on both mesial and distal sides of all canines, then canines’ retraction was performed using closed-coil springs to obtain a force of 150 gm while anchorage was augmented indirectly with TADs. The rate of canine retraction was assessed at T0, T1, T2, and T3 (just before, 1 month, 2 months, and 3 months after retraction), using 3-Dimentional digital casts. Only the statistical analysis expert was blinded. Results: The results showed a statistically non-significant difference between all groups (upper and lower flapless laser corticotomy and control) in the change in canine retraction distance and monthly rate of Canine retraction. Conclusion: There were neither statistically nor clinically significant differences between upper and lower canine retraction rates either by conventional method or assisted by FLC performed in this study.","PeriodicalId":11270,"journal":{"name":"Dental Science Updates","volume":"2 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140269528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
