Dengan menggunakan soal selidik sebagai instrumen kajian, sejumlah 500 orang ketua isi rumah dari lima buah pusat petempatan kecil dalam daerah Muallim telah dipilih sebagai responden dengan menggunakan persampelan rawak bertujuan. Pemboleh ubah kualiti hidup penduduk yang dikaji adalah ekonomi, sosial dan alam sekitar. Analisis inferensi ujian-t digunakan bagi menganalisis sama ada terdapat perbezaan kualiti hidup dari segi jantina dan lokasi tempat tinggal penduduk manakala analisis ANOVA digunakan bagi menganalsis sama ada terdapat perbezaan kualiti hidup dari segi etnik dan tahap pendidikan tertinggi dalam setiap pemboleh ubah. Dapatan analisis ujian-t menunjukkan bahawa tidak terdapat perbezaan kualiti hidup yang signifikan antara jantina dari segi sosial dan alam sekitar manakala bagi lokasi pula terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan bagi ketiga-tiga pemboleh ubah kajian. Dapatan ANOVA pula menunjukkan terdapat perbezaan kualiti hidup bagi ketiga-tiga pemboleh ubah dari segi etnik dan tahap pendidikan tertinggi bagi ketiga-tiga pemboleh ubah kajian. Secara keseluruhannya dapat dirumuskan bahawa lokasi, etnik dan tahap pendidikan memberi peranan kepada kualiti hidup penduduk di Muallim namun tidak bagi jantina. This study used the descriptive-survey design of research to describe the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of the following variables: age, gender, highest educational attainment, position and length of service. Descriptive method was likewise used to gather information about the present conditions, status and trends in the pedagogy. It describes the nature of a situation that exists at the time of the study. Based on the findings of the study, the respondents are still active in implementing the motivational strategies in dealing with passive pupils. Additionally, teachers are not particular about their educational attainment and academic rank. Therefore, Grade-V pupils prefer to attend classes on time, avoid the feeling of inferiority and need the sense of acceptance. However, passive pupils should be given enough time to value their roles as pupils. It is also necessary to develop their potentials and capabilities. The teachers are still introducing traditional strategies in dealing with the passive students. They usually initiate their outmoded techniques, methods and styles in teaching. Thus, the determiners are present in any classroom setting; it is not usually very much present in every class. Moreover, common determiners arise in many ways and it depends upon the applied motivational strategies in dealing with passive pupils. Henceforth, the relationship of the determiners of passivism does not completely affect the motivational strategies employed by the teachers. So, initiating motivational strategies among pupils acknowledges teachers as frontiers of its implementation and enforcement of pupils’ involvement as well must be observed. However, this involvement on the part of the teacher is limited as the finality of decisions still rest in the teachers. This calls for the teachers to increase awareness of the prescribed and present-day motivational strategies to be employed among passive pupils. This can be possibly done if teachers hold high educational qualifications and academic rank by pursuing their education in graduate studies. It is then recommended that teachers should make their subject matter interesting by introducing more group dynamic activities to involve all the pupils, instead of competition. Cetusan idea kajian ini terhasil bertujuan untuk mengangkat seni manik etnik Lun Bawang ini ke peringkat lebih tinggi dan memberi pendedahan kepada etnik untuk memperlihatkan kearifan lokal etnik ini mampu mempengaruhi kreativiti seni manik di Sarawak. Keunikan kraf manik etnik Lun Bawang ini sebenarnya terletak pada reka corak motifnya yang digunakan, bahan serta cara penghasilannya. Motif-motif tradisional etnik ini digambarkan dan diinterpretasikan pada permukaan manik berfungsi untuk mencerminkan identiti dan kebudayaan etnik Lun Bawang dan memberi simbolik estetika yang tinggi serta keindahan pada manik tersebut. Kaedah kualitatif menerusi pendekatan historikal telah membuktikan bahawa masyarakat setempat bijak mengadaptasikan sumber alam dan identiti etnik mereka dalam penghasilan seni manik ini. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif secara tinjauan. Kajian ini melibatkan 92 orang guru pelatih sebagai responden kajian daripada IPTA yang terpilih. Soal selidik ini terdiri daripada 2 bahagian iaitu bahagian A, dan B. Bahagian A adalah mengenai latar belakang sampel kajian, bahagian B merangkumi tentang pengetahuan isi kandungan tatabahasa Tamil Tingkatan Empat. Data-data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan menggunakan perisian SPSS (Statistic Packages for Social Science) versi 22.0. Kajian mendapati tahap pengetahuan isi kandungan tatabahasa Tamil pada tahap yang sederhana rendah (M=2.805, SD=0.403). Implikasi yang diperoleh menerusi kajian ini ialah Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia (KPM) dicadangkan meneliti semula Sukatan Pelajaran dan Huraian Sukatan Pelajaran Bahasa Tamil dengan menitikberatkan kepentingan aspek tatabahasa Tamil, iaitu punarriyal. Seramai 55 orang murid Tingkatan Empat yang dipilih melalui teknik persampelan cluster terlibat dalam kajian ini. Soal selidik yang diadaptasi dan disahkan oleh pakar penilai serta mempunyai nilai kebolehpercayaan yang baik merupakan instrumen kajian ini. Data kajian ini telah dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensi iaitu ujian-t sampel berpasangan melalui perisianIBMSPSS. Dapatan kajian ini menunjukkan tahap kemahiran terarah kendiri berada pada tahap sederhana dan terdapat peningkatan kemahiran terarah kendiri antara ujian pra dan ujian pasca dalam kalangan murid. Seramai 400 orang pelajar telah dipilih sebagai responden kajian dan data dikumpul menggunakan borang soal selidik yang diisi sendiri oleh responden. Skala Personal Wellbeing Index - Adult (PWI-A) oleh Cummins (2013) digunakan untuk mengukur tahap kesejahteraan diri pelajar universiti. Pesepsi tekanan akademik pula telah diukur dengan menggunakan Perception of Academic Stress Scale (PAS) oleh Bedewy dan Gabriel (2015) yang mempunyai empat sub-skala iaitu tekanan prestasi, persepsi bebanan kerja, persepsi diri akademik dan kekangan masa. Hasil kajian menunjukkan terdapat perkaitan yang signifikan antara persepsi diri akademik (r = 0.247**, p ≤ 0.05) dan kekangan masa (r = 0.179**, p ≤ 0.05) dengan kesejahteraan diri pelajar universiti. Kajian ini membuktikan persepsi diri akademik merupakan faktor peramal yang paling kuat dalam menentukan kesejahteraan diri pelajar universiti (β = 0.230). Ini bermaksud kesejahteraan diri pelajar universiti amat dipengaruhi oleh faktor bagaimana mereka mempersepsi diri dari aspek akademik. Keyakinan tinggi seseorang pelajar terhadap kemampuan akademiknya boleh menjadi motivasi kepada usaha yang difokuskan untuk mencapai kejayaan. Pelajar juga diharapkan dapat menerangkan langkah-langkah pembinaan yang dibuat. Kajian kualitatif ini menggunakan rekabentuk kajian kes dan kaedah persampelan bertujuan. Tiga orang pelajar tingkatan satu terpilih sebagai responden kajian. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpul data adalah protokol pemerhatian pemikiran verbal (think-aloud interview protocol). Kajian mendapati pelajar menghadapi masalah dalam pembinaan sudut dan tidak dapat melabelkan sudut dengan betul. Campbell and Storch (2011) guiding questionnaire was adapted through the interview sessions among 11 Mandarin level two learners of different grades at one of the universities in Kelantan. The learners were interviewed in person in Bahasa Malaysia. The interview sessions were audio recorded and transcribed verbatim and translated into English. The inquiry revealed that non-native Mandarin learners were motivated to continue to learn Mandarin due to the importance of Mandarin in the aspect of employability, self-interest and improving Mandarin grade. The study gives insight to teachers to plan their teaching to match with the learners’ demands that are related to their future career building, hence the learning must consider real life situation. Japan sought to articulate national identity because of tainted Japanese minds by wicked Occident ideas. In this context, the notion of Nihonjinron and its distinctive characteristics are central to grasp Japan’s thoughts and behaviors vis-a-vis dominant Western culture. During Japan’s occupation of Malaya in 1941-45, the promulgation of its wartime propaganda to create “Asia for the Asiatic” and to exterminate imperialist Western power from the “Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere” had a considerable impact on Malayan political development. The occupation accelerated the drive towards Malayan independence amid repeated racial clashes. This paper is a conceptual attempt to unravel Japanese nationalist doctrines, rooted in Nihonjinron discourse that not only underpinned its Occident worldview throughout the course of war but also became the underpinning ofits propaganda machine.The significance of this study lies in its effort to offer an alternative way of interpreting Japanese occupation of Malaya from the perspective of Nihonjinron.
