What seems to be missing is a theoretically sound account of phonics itself as a discipline. This paper traces the way the present situation came about, and restores phonics to its true place between the study of spoken language and reading studies. The problems caused by the present situation fall on the shoulders of teachers in the classroom, who may be required to teach using phonic methods without being adequately guided on what they are supposed to do. Taking a teacher-centred “digital humanities” approach to phonics, the paper proposes a device that could provide the teacher with phonic information about English words much as a dictionary provides their meanings.","PeriodicalId":106061,"journal":{"name":"EDUCATUM Journal of Social Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124810970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The issue of emotional abuse in romantic relationship was studied due to limited existing studies and there is a lack of evidence on the occurrence of emotional abuse among students especially in local contexts. This study was conducted to examine the effects of psychosocial factors (five-factor personality traits, loneliness and parenting style) towards emotional abuse among university students in Malaysia who have been in romantic relationships for at least three months. The data of this study was collected through a quantitative method using survey approach. Malay version of Emotional Abuse Quenstionnaire, Big Five Inventory (BFI-10), Revised UCLA Loneliness Scale and Scale of Parenting Style were used in this study. A total number of 273 university students had participated in this study. Multiple linear analysis was used to identify the effects of psychosocial factors on emotional abuse. The results showed that the prevalence of university students in Malaysia experiencing emotional abuse is still at low level. Regression analysis showed that two psychosocial factors, conscientiousness personality trait and responsive parenting style had significant relationships with emotional abuse. The results of this study are significant in understanding the underlying psychosocial factors for emotional abuse. Such understanding is vital to inculcate awareness which act as proactive measures in avoiding oneself from being an emotional abuse victim.","PeriodicalId":106061,"journal":{"name":"EDUCATUM Journal of Social Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124848477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These digital platforms nevertheless may be compromised due to cybercrime attacks, ability constraints to transfer hadis text to digital visuals, dissemination of false hadis, distortion of hadis understanding and so on. Thus, this paper describes the issues and challenges pertaining preservation of hadis in the framework of its transmission and dissemination in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0). Research is performed through content analysis of primary (hadis) and secondary sources (journal articles, books, etc.) to achieve the study’s objectives. Therefore, this conceptual paper has outlined ideas along with solutions to resolve matters concerning digital hadis, to further strengthen the continuation of measures taken in preserving authority of hadis within cyberspace. The findings of this study can be used as a guide for using digital hadis by taking precaution measures from promoting unauthorised hadis.","PeriodicalId":106061,"journal":{"name":"EDUCATUM Journal of Social Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132386989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the design studios run based on the relation of the master of the studio with the students, changing this relationship to the peer-learners experiments through this research. A Likert questionnaire was applied to ask the opinion of the students at the end of the semester, the data analyzed through a factor analysis test in SPSS. The findings of the analysis identified that the students addressed effective aspects of the exercise in five clusters including communication, interaction, presentation, innovation, and interpretation. The students learn through peer-jury to communicate with classmates through comments, critics, and recommendations, which is improved presentations. The comments of the peer-jury as an idea of design result in innovation in the design conceptualization. In conclusion, the students design their own style of communication in the position of peer-jury through an interpretation of the design projects. The results of the exercise shift the learning process from the instructor toward the peer-students and the peer-learners.","PeriodicalId":106061,"journal":{"name":"EDUCATUM Journal of Social Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130682312","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the strategies and processes have yet to be adequately explored and documented, especially in the context of the Malaysian university. This paper presents a case regarding how the external stakeholders were involved in the design and implementation of an experiential learning project for an elective module in Diploma programmes of Raffles University, Malaysia based on a pedagogical model. This model consists of three major phases: (1.) initiation and design; (2.) execution; and (3.) evaluation and review. The roles of external stakeholders and the responsibilities of lecturers in each phase were discussed. In addition, students’ learning experiences and their reflections on the experiences were also described along with the discussion. This paper concludes that the developed pedagogical model may serve as an effective means to engage with external stakeholders in planning and delivering meaningful lessons for authentic learning at university level.","PeriodicalId":106061,"journal":{"name":"EDUCATUM Journal of Social Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122766337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The re-opening of the private kindergarten during this MCO period was met with a different reaction from the entrepreneurs. The objective of this study is to analyse the level of compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This study involved 50 private kindergartens in Selangor. The assessment is based on two perspectives: feedback from kindergarten management and the trainee teachers. The findings showed that compliance levels were high with the mean score of 4.260 (before operation) and 4.278 (during operation) given by the operators on a scale of 1 – 5, while trainee teachers gave a mean score of 4.212. Before its operation, kindergartens have prioritized three safety measures: ensuring parents were free from COVID-19 (mean 4.64), monitoring teachers’ health (mean 4.52), and tightening the rules for visitors (mean 4.38). During its operation, kindergartens have improved their safety measures especially in prohibiting symptomatic children to kindergarten (mean 4.54), providing adequate hand sanitizer (mean 4.44), enforcing the use of face masks (mean 4.44), making isolation towards symptomatic children (mean 4.40), carrying out comprehensive disinfection activities (mean 4.36), and ensuring parents to cooperate accordingly (mean 4.32). The observations of trainee teachers have also supported these claims. According to the teacher trainees, the lower scores concerned around ensuring children to wear a face mask at all times (mean 3.72), prohibiting children from sharing personal equipment (mean 3.89), prohibiting physical contact among children (mean 3.96); conducting learning group activities (mean 3.98), and tracking close contacts of symptomatic children (mean 4.02). The high level of compliance indicates the entrepreneur's determination in ensuring that private kindergartens can operate properly and safely. The results of this study have a significant impact on the role of the relevant authorities to provide training and financial assistance to private kindergartens. Such support is essential for them to offer quality services in the interests of child education and safety.","PeriodicalId":106061,"journal":{"name":"EDUCATUM Journal of Social Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129948622","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
