In Brazil, in spite of the existence of services to denounce DV, women who do not communicate through the Brazilian-Portuguese language (Pt-Br) are, in fact, excluded as users. As a previous stage to development of a mobile application to denounce DV by women who are illiterate in Pt-Br, being them Brazilian or immigrant and including Brazilians with disabilities, a study on Brazilian mobile services to denounce DV by women who are Deaf was performed. This paper presents the study's results, requirements and shows that applications are not inclusive. The requirements triggered the need for future Participatory Design activities together with each one and all women involved, in order to guarantee that their other cultural and social specificities are addressed. These activities are part of the feminist interaction design agenda, within which the application design process will be seen.","PeriodicalId":102113,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133732118","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For older people the consequences are even greater. In addition to being in the risk group, the quality of life of these people had impaired, since they had their routine changed, they are away from their friends/family and with suspended physical/personal/cultural activities. This paper reports actions taken to ensure the continuity of digital literacy classes offered to the older people by the University of São Paulo. After a preliminary investigation with the older people of these classes, it was possible to observe a lack of them to this activity that used to represent new learning - towards your autonomy - and social interaction with colleagues, monitors and teachers. The team of teachers and monitors then joined forces to deliver classes and activities remotely. Several challenges were overcome and others are yet to be resolved. This paper brings the reports and results - so far - of this initiative.","PeriodicalId":102113,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113977362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Popular in the 90s, the criteria are not aimed at mobile devices, motivating this research to apply these criteria to see their suitability for new scenarios of hardware and software. As a firts step towards revisiting the Ergonomic Criteria, we present results and discussions from an evaluation activity where the criteria were applied to evaluate the Coronavirus-SUS, an application developed to inform Brazilian population about the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Because the application's target audience is the entire Brazilian population, many different issues can be experienced and must be considered. Results reveal several critical problems that may affect the application understanding and usage, and suggest the criteria are able to support usability evaluation in mobile contexts, although a need for revisiting and updating the criteria was identified.","PeriodicalId":102113,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114116138","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Digital technologies can contribute to this; however, the interaction of the elderly subject with these technologies is still frustrating, as these technologies are usually not designed with the needs and expectations of the elderly subject in mind. Engaging the elderly person in a process of interaction codesign may be a viable solution. However, conducting them in participatory activities is challenging. In this paper, we discuss our experiences in engaging ten elderly women, mostly long-lived (80+) in a process of interaction codesign, presenting some strategies used to improve engagement throughout the process, reflecting on the challenges and lessons learned. It is hoped that these strategies can help researchers and designers to engage elderly people in design processes with an effective participatory approach.","PeriodicalId":102113,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129408147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In general, a user feels motion sickness because the brain perceives a movement but his/her body is not actually moving. In immersive virtual reality, this is caused because, frequently, the user's field of view is blocked by a head-mounted display and the locomotion in the virtual world is performed by moving analog sticks in a gamepad-like device (this is also known as artificial locomotion). In addition to some general best practices and guidelines to prevent motion sickness and provide immersion, several different locomotion mechanisms have been conceived in the last few years, both in the academy and in the industry. This paper presents the findings from usability tests to compare different locomotion mechanisms. The evaluation took into account not only the level of motion sickness observed in the participants, but also the ease of learn and use, the subjective preferences and the sense of immersion. It is expected that the data from these tests will assist the development of immersive virtual reality environments and future enhancements of locomotion mechanisms for immersive virtual reality.","PeriodicalId":102113,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128862587","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considering the computing field, its inherent complexity, alongside a scenario where the classes are at night, engagement is even more challenging. To deal with these issues, several methodological alternatives have been discussed, including gamification. Trying to promote student engagement, we used a set of 15 distinct badges, related to different kinds of activities (individual, in groups, at home, in class, among others), in an HCI undergraduate course, with 46 students, during an entire semester. We collected data about earned badges, user satisfaction, as well as their grades and class attendance. Our main results are related to the students' engagement and satisfaction, adding new evidence of the gamification effectiveness in the educational context, as well as its possibilities of use in an HCI course.","PeriodicalId":102113,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122412998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, a large part of the listeners do not know it. The lack of knowledge of Libras by listeners and the Portuguese language by deaf damages communication between them. The existing computational applications concentrate on the translation of the two languages and disregard regionalization. Besides, they do not promote the independence of the deaf. In this paper, a multi-platform application is presented that helps the deaf to relate places with their signs in Libras, also facilitating their journey with the use of routes. We carried out a study with people who understood Libras, including evaluation, observation, and interviews. The results obtained enabled the perception of problems that negatively affected the use of the application and served to signal improvements in interaction. We believed that the study would allow the appropriation of knowledge discovered in other contexts of use.","PeriodicalId":102113,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"149 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115585061","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Polystore systems have complex middleware that provides APIs for multiple types of storage engines. When database administrators use an API, they play the role of an application user and more attention should be paid to analyzing these APIs. This paper investigates the communicability of a Polystore system API (BigDAWG), with the SigniFYIng APIs method, from Semiotic Engineering. We analyze the potential of the method in the characterization of the communicative strategies of the BigDAWG system. The study is preceded by a simplified systematic mapping study in the area of semiotic inspection of APIs to characterize the main contributions. The results of this research indicate the applicability of the SigniFYIng APIs method to support investigations in the context of Human-Centered Computing and for the study of communicability in Polystore systems.","PeriodicalId":102113,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128701735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, little is known about the effectiveness of machine learning techniques (MLT) for classifying developers' code comprehension based on their brainwave data. This study evaluates the effectiveness of MLT's trained with EEG data to classify developers' code comprehension. Brainwave data collected from an EEG device while developers performed source code comprehension tasks was used to train the Neural Network, Support Vector Machine, Naïve Bayes and Random Forrest classifiers. The effectiveness of these techniques was analyzed using accuracy, precision and recall. The Neural Network classifier, trained with EEG data and Principal Component Analysis, obtained 84% accuracy to classify code comprehension. Thus, the application of MLT to classify developers' code comprehension based on EEG data is possible.","PeriodicalId":102113,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"134 11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124258249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Empathy Map is an important tool for most of interface projects. However, the tool's components related to \"Listen\", \"Think and Feel\", \"See\", and \"Say\" may be problematic for autistic users with low/medium degree of functioning, therefore requiring adaptation. This is due to cognitive impairment and limitations caused by this disorder on verbal communication. To address these issues, this work presents the initial proposal of EmpathyAut which is based on the traditional Empathy Map model, but has sections that are more compatible with the reality of autistic people. The main EpathyAut goal is to improve empathy between the interface designers and autistic users. The EmpathyAut covers the autistic people's main affected areas, namely interaction, communication, behavior, and cognition.","PeriodicalId":102113,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121634062","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
