The study employed a time series analysis from 1995 to 2020 using Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) to assess both short- and long-term dynamics. The estimation suggests that a 1 % increase in tourist arrivals, tourism expenditures, and tourism receipts would result in energy consumption increasing by 0.46 %, 0.47 %, and 0.64 % in the long term, and by 0.30 %, 0.31 %, and 0.51 % in the short term, respectively. Additionally, a 1 % rise in tourist arrivals, tourism expenditures, and tourism receipts would lead to a long-term increase in economic growth of 0.45 %, 0.47 %, and 0.54 %, respectively. In the short term, these increases would be 0.26 %, 0.32 %, and 0.40 %. Furthermore, a 1 % rise in tourist arrivals and tourism expenditures would result in a long-term increase of 0.32 % and 0.26 % in carbon emissions, and a short-term increase of 0.39 % and 0.29 %, respectively. The findings suggest that a 1 % rise in tourism receipts would lead to a reduction of 0.10 % in carbon emissions in the long term and 0.03 % in the short term. Attempts by the private sector to intervene in government environmental policy might affect environmental policy, the dynamic behavior of the economy, and its long-term sustainability. To elucidate these effects, this paper presents a simple overlapping generations model with environmental externalities and politically motivated governments. If abatement technology is high and the government enforces optimal environmental policies, then the per-capita growth rate becomes positive and environmental quality improves over time. This study considers the case in which interest groups make a political donation or offer a bribe to prevent a government from introducing environmental policies. If the marginal benefit of such donations is sufficiently high, then the government accepts political contributions and delays the introduction of environmental policies. In such cases, even in economies with the capacity to achieve sustainable growth, the dynamic economic behavior might be destabilized, cycles might occur, or long-term economic growth rates might become negative. Numerous previous studies have demonstrated that corruption reduces the growth rate and degrades environmental quality. However, the dynamic behavior of the economy has not been adequately explored. This paper, therefore, examines not only the steady-state properties of the economy but also its dynamic behavior. A key contribution of this study is to show that political contributions and bribery may not only lower the long-run growth rate and worsen environmental quality, but also destabilize the dynamic trajectories of output and the environment — an aspect that has been largely overlooked in the existing literature. This conclusion suggests the necessity of establishing institutions and laws capable of preventing political corruption for an economy not to fall into a trap and achieve sustainable development. Moreover, investment and innovation must occur to increase productivity. The study is relevant to Goal 8 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (Target 8.4), which provides a theoretical basis for identifying the conditions necessary to achieve economic growth without environmental degradation.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":100674,"journal":{"name":"Innovation and Green Development","volume":"4 4","pages":"Article 100281"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144907249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study considers whether climate-related mitigation finance advances non-hydroelectric power renewable electricity production in Cameroon, with data from 2000 to 2021. The Autoregressive Distributed Lag bounds test and asymmetric Autoregressive Distributed Lag techniques were employed for analytical purposes and results robust-checked using threshold regression and least squares with breakpoints. The study finds that climate mitigation development finance promotes renewable electricity production but the effect is insignificant. Quantitative results from Autoregressive Distributed Lag estimates show that renewable electricity production increased by 0.002 % and 0.003 % following a 1 % rise in mitigation finance in the short and long run respectively. Furthermore, the discrete threshold and least squares with breakpoints regression results reveal a marginal increase of 0.0007 % and 0.0009 % in renewable electricity generation respectively as a result of a 1 % increase in climate mitigation finance. No significant causality from climate mitigation development finance to renewable electricity production was found. This study recommends that government should prioritize the production of electricity from other renewable sources apart from hydroelectricity while developed countries should increase their financial contributions towards climate mitigation finance.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":100674,"journal":{"name":"Innovation and Green Development","volume":"4 3","pages":"Article 100243"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143887025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Vietnam's economic growth and agricultural development have led to higher utilization of energy and emissions. Analyzing the trade-off between pollution and development in Vietnam can help mitigate environmental degradation while achieving Vietnam's goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. The research empirically investigates the effects of the economy, energy, technology, agriculture, and forestry on Vietnam’s environmental quality. The study analyzed yearly data from 1990 to 2020 using the dynamic ordinary least squares (DOLS) technique. Empirical results show that as the economy and energy use rise, so do pollution. Conversely, a rise in technological innovation, agricultural productivity, and forest cover would reduce Vietnam's emissions. The stability of the DOLS results is observed when operating the canonical cointegrating regression (CCR) afterward fully modified least squares (FMOLS) techniques. To achieve its net-zero emissions goals and gain sustainable development, Vietnam should switch to cleaner energy, adopt low-carbon economies, encourage green technology innovation, use climate-smart farming methods, and reduce deforestation.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":100674,"journal":{"name":"Innovation and Green Development","volume":"4 3","pages":"Article 100229"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143739875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Building on the World Bank's Sovereign ESG Framework and using the entropy weight method, the research assigns weightings of 42.13 % to environmental factors, 30.39 % to social factors, and 27.47 % to governance factors. By segmenting the period into three decade-based intervals, the study systematically captures long-term trends and short-term disruptions in sustainability performance. The analysis reveals notable regional disparities and temporal shifts in ESG scores, with significant improvements in social and governance dimensions in some regions contrasted by modest gains or even declines in environmental indicators. These outcomes highlight the challenges of measuring sustainability in contexts marked by heterogeneous institutional capacities and diverse socio-economic dynamics. Furthermore, the study identifies that formal metrics often overlook grassroots sustainability practices rooted in informal networks. The findings underscore the need for tailored policy interventions that integrate both conventional and non-traditional sustainability measures, thereby providing nuanced insights for policymakers and practitioners aiming to bridge gaps in conventional ESG frameworks. This research not only contributes to the academic discourse on national sustainability assessments but also offers practical recommendations for enhancing regional ESG strategies in Africa.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":100674,"journal":{"name":"Innovation and Green Development","volume":"4 3","pages":"Article 100231"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143844252","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To address this, the present study examines the comparative efficiency of climate finance and environmental taxes in mitigating environmental degradation across Africa. Using data from 26 African countries over the period 2012 to 2021, this study employs the system Generalized Method of Moments regressions to analyze the effect of these two financial mechanisms on environmental outcomes. The results reveal that both climate finance and environmental taxes significantly contribute to reducing environmental degradation, with environmental taxes proving to be more effective. The study further identifies human capital and governance as the indirect paths through which climate finance and environmental taxes mitigate environmental degradation in Africa. The findings remain consistent even after conducting a series of robustness checks using alternative proxies for climate finance, environmental taxes, and ecological footprint. Based on the results, the paper recommends prioritizing and enhancing environmental tax policies, as well as expanding and effectively allocating climate finance, while also investing in human capital and governance reforms for more effective environmental outcomes.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":100674,"journal":{"name":"Innovation and Green Development","volume":"4 3","pages":"Article 100241"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143834189","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using heterogeneous panel data models, the study incorporates both sharp and smooth structural changes through the Fourier Seemingly Unrelated Regressions Mean Group (F-SURMG) estimation. This approach effectively addresses heterogeneity, structural changes, and cross-sectional dependency in panel data analysis, ensuring robust and reliable insights. The findings reveal significant variation in the impact of renewable energy consumption on economic growth across the G7 countries. In Japan, the effect is positive and statistically significant, supporting the green growth hypothesis. This outcome is attributed to Japan's strong tradition of technological innovation, which enables effective integration and adaptation of renewable energy technologies. Conversely, Italy exhibits a negative and significant impact, highlighting challenges in aligning renewable energy with its economic framework. For Canada, France, Germany, the UK, and the US, the effect is not statistically significant, suggesting that renewable energy consumption has not yet become a major driver of economic growth in these nations. The study underscores that the transition to green growth in G7 countries faces several obstacles, including outdated infrastructure, volatile energy prices, competition from fossil fuels, and insufficient investment in renewable technologies. These factors can impede innovation and limit the economic contributions of renewable energy. Addressing these challenges is crucial for unlocking the full potential of renewable energy to foster sustainable economic growth across the G7 countries.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":100674,"journal":{"name":"Innovation and Green Development","volume":"4 3","pages":"Article 100245"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143879095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using data from an experimental study of 780 low-income farmers in rural Nigeria with multiple mental health proxies, we investigate whether the psychological state of exposed farmers interferes with treatment. We find evidence of a counteracting effect, such that treated farmers with poor mental health prior to treatment are less likely to report pro-environmental attitudes and actions, in contrast to farmers with better mental health. In urban environments, including Addis Ababa, elevated concentrations of vehicle emissions pose significant environmental risks. Consequently, measuring vehicle emissions becomes imperative for estimating the impact of passenger vehicles on urban air quality. In 2022, a drive cycle specific to Addis Ababa was developed for the first time; however, it was not utilized for determining both fuel consumption and vehicle emissions. Previous studies on emission inventories primarily focused on vehicle classification, neglecting variations in emissions on different types of roads. This study introduces routes-based emissions inventories and fuel consumption estimates for passenger cars based on the Addis Ababa drive cycle and the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycle. To validate the model, an experimental chassis dynamometer setup was employed. The findings of this study revealed that driving in the congested urban areas of Addis Ababa contributes to 56.25 % carbon monoxide, 37.28 % carbon dioxide, 38.19 % nitrogen oxides, 58.25 % volatile organic compound, 29 % particulate matter emissions, along with 37.29 % fuel consumption. Furthermore, congested urban and rural areas in Addis Ababa account for 60 %–73 % of all emissions and fuel consumption from passenger vehicles.
