The realization of this type of behavior boosts self-esteem and contributes to the construction of support networks. The aim of this study was to analyze the dimensionality of the Prosocial Behavior Scale (ECP) by Aune, Abal, and Attorresi, comprising 28 items. An accidental sample of 692 individuals who responded to the ECP was selected from Gran Buenos Aires and Argentine provinces. Twenty-five cases were disregarded, as they were considered anomalous according to Mahalanobis distance. The study was carried out using Exploratory Factor Analysis based on a polychoric correlation matrix with promax rotation. Parallel Analysis procedure was chosen to determine the number of factors, which was estimated by the method of non-weighted least squares. A model of 15 items and two factors achieved adequate fit indices (GFI = .99, RMSR = .0384), accounting for 50.61% of the variance. These results are consistent with the literature, since items related to comfort were grouped by one of the factors, while items involving aid were grouped by the second factor analyzed.","PeriodicalId":93550,"journal":{"name":"Evaluar","volume":"54 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79418878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This creates conflicting conclusions between research with diverse theoretical lines, due to the fact that they are using different conceptions of impulsivity. In this study, a number of twelve scales that measure constructs related to impulsivityhave been analyzed, in order to find the lesser possible amount of factors to which the involved items could be reduced. The sample consisted of 675 volunteers from the population of Capital Federal (57% women). To evaluatepersonality and traits of impulsivity, the following were applied: four sub-scales from the Temperament and Character Inventory - Revised (TCI-R), four sub-scales from the Neuroticism, Extraversion and Openness to Experience Personality Inventory - Revised (NEO-PIR) and four sub-scales from the Urgency, Premeditation, Perseverance Sensation Seeking (UPPS) Questionnaire. An exploratory factorial analysis was applied to reduce the twelve scales. Omega´s coefficient was applied to estimate the internal consistency of the scales. The analyzed scales can be reduced to three major factors. The factorsfound are called impulsivity by improvidence, sensation seeking and compulsive urgency. The resulting instrument has been named Urgency, Sensation Seeking and Impulsivity Questionnaire (CUBI, in Spanish).","PeriodicalId":93550,"journal":{"name":"Evaluar","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81390577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, so far, a scale measuring both alcohol consumption and other psychoactive substances in a brief and precise way has not been validated in Mexico. This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the CARLOS (CRAFFT) instrument by Knight, Sherrit, Shrier, Harris and Chang (2002) in a sample of 220 Mexican university students. The instruments CARLOS (CRAFFT) and AUDIT were applied to Mexican university students. The self-administered test technique was used and the instruments were applied inside the classroom. A 1 was assigned to an affirmative answer and 0 for a negative answer. The average age of the participants was 20 years (range, 18 to 25 years). The CARLOS (CRAFFT) instrument showed moderately high internal consistency levels (Cronbach’s alpha = .73). The cutoff point of 2 offers the best combination of sensibility (.86) and specificity (.73) with a positive predictive value (.52) and a negative predictive value (.93). The area under the ROC curve was .79 and Pearson’s r correlation between the CARLOS (CRAFFT) and the AUDIT instrument was .67 (p < 0.01). The CARLOS (CRAFFT) instrument is sufficiently valid and reliable for testing psychoactive substances consumption in Mexican university students.","PeriodicalId":93550,"journal":{"name":"Evaluar","volume":"7 1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90835323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results showed a distribution of the pictures within the affective space in a boomerang form, which is similar to the American sample (Lang, Bradley, & Cuthbert, 2008). No differences in the emotional dimensions of valence and arousal were identified, but they were found in dominance, regarding to the data obtained by Lang, Bradley and Cuthbert (2008). Parenting practices influence directly on the maintenance or desistance of these behaviors. This paper explores the psychometric properties of the Adolescent Family Process scale in a group of 301 teenagers from Cordoba (Argentine), 27% of them with criminal records. The scale is frequently used in criminological studies for the measurement of the relationship between parenting practices and the antinormative behavior of teenagers. In a general way, the scale proved to be valid and reliable for the study of parenting practices in this population. Internal consistency rates were adequate and criterion validity analysis showed that different types of antinormative behavior are negatively associated with parental practices such as monitoring, communication and approval, and positively correlated with conflict between parents and children. However, exploratory factor analysis (principal axes) indicated a five factorial structure different from those purposed in the original scale. The paternal and maternal practices scales showed differences in the factorial structure. Theoretical and technical implications of findings are discussed.","PeriodicalId":93550,"journal":{"name":"Evaluar","volume":"94 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74126645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Para quienes tuvimos la suerte de estudiar y trabajar a su lado ha sido una enorme perdida. Nacido en Buenos Aires, desde muy joven manifesto dotes extraordinarias para la ciencia. Discipulo del Dr. Bernardo Houssay se formo en la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Buenos Aires. Viajo luego a Inglaterra con una beca del British Council para estudiar psicologia en Oxford con Stephenson, un discipulo de Spearman con quien aprendio psicometria. Invitado para ensenar Psicologia en la Facultad de Filosofia y Letras de la Universidad Nacional de Cuyo (recien creada en Mendoza) organizo un Instituto de Psicologia Experimental. Alli se formaron algunos investigadores, entre los que me cuento, realizando las primeras estandarizaciones de tests que fueron trabajos pioneros en America Latina. En 1946 el Dr. Rimoldi obtuvo la beca Guggenheim y se traslado a Chicago en donde estudio y trabajo al lado de Thurstone. Paso asi 25 anos en los Estados Unidos, creo un Instituto de Psicologia en la Universidad de Loyola de Chicago y realizo alli una obra muy extensa y prolifica dejando un grupo de alumnos que han seguido sus trabajos muy de cerca. Durante ese tiempo publico innumerables trabajos y se relaciono muy estrechamente con algunos de los psicologos mas importantes de su epoca como Gordon Allport, Edwing Boring y Wolfgang Kohler. Ya en 1955, muy al comienzo de lo que hoy se considera psicologia cognitiva publico un trabajo sobre “resolucion de problemas” que tuvo gran repercusion.","PeriodicalId":93550,"journal":{"name":"Evaluar","volume":"71 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83280796","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
