The disease can cause many difficulties in the patient's daily life, especially as muscle atrophy and deformity progresses, making it difficult to walk and maintain balance. This study details the effects of treatment on a woman in her 60s with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and severe scoliosis. The treatment approach incorporated a multifaceted approach of increasing skin mobility and range of motion, eliminating catastrophic thoughts, reducing muscle tension, and controlling body weight. During the 3-month treatment period, the patient's primary symptoms, including back pain and joint instability were significantly relieved. In particular, the elimination of catastrophic thoughts and weight control contributed significantly to improving the patient’s quality of life. The results of this study suggest the effectiveness of a multimodal treatment approach for the patient with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and scoliosis.","PeriodicalId":93216,"journal":{"name":"MOJ sports medicine","volume":"31 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139282242","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The health dangers of extreme weight cutting such as cardiovascular collapse and increased susceptibility to concussion are increasingly been recognized in this sport. Cardiovascular collapse due to an extreme weight cut is mostly likely to occur at the time of the weigh-in. To ensure the health and safety of combatants, there should be adequate medical staffing at the time of the weigh-in.","PeriodicalId":93216,"journal":{"name":"MOJ sports medicine","volume":"25 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139318825","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditionally, cricket has relied on three distinct metrics to measure bowling performance: the bowling average, the bowler's strike rate, and the economy rate. While each of these measures attempts to quantify the performance of bowlers, their respective scopes are unique. Researchers have made several attempts to integrate these measures into a composite index to rank bowlers. However, the integration process inevitably results in the loss of the individual metrics' distinct natures. This paper endeavours to visualize the three measures in a two-dimensional plane using a contour plot. To better illustrate the proximity amongst bowlers concerning the three distinct measures, a few improvements to the plot are proposed. The proposed graphical extension utilizes the career statistics of bowlers across different eras and demonstrates how the style of bowling has evolved as the scoring patterns in cricket change. Additionally, an R program has been developed to facilitate the drawing of said graphical extension.","PeriodicalId":93216,"journal":{"name":"MOJ sports medicine","volume":"134 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139335770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective: to investigate the adherence behavior of women aged between 12 and 80 years, to a specialized cardiac prevention and rehabilitation program (CPRP). Method: This cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in a clinic specialized in cardiology diagnosis and CPRP between 1972 and 2006. Patients were separated into two groups, prevention (PG) and rehabilitation (RG) after physical evaluation and diagnosis. Both groups of women were separated by age and by the date of beginning CPRP. Results: Based on the entry diagnosis in the records of 958 women who attended the CPRP, we identified that 655 of them were in the prevention group (PG) and 303 in the rehabilitation group (PG). In both groups, the adherence to the program decreased with advancing age and worsening of risk factors. Conclusions: Contrary to the increase on statistics of women victims of cardiovascular diseases in Brazil, the number of those who seek CPRP through physical exercises has decreased and, what is worse, the number or places that facilitate women’s access to this type of intervention has also decreased.","PeriodicalId":93216,"journal":{"name":"MOJ sports medicine","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43605285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among the most affected sectors by the pandemic is that of education, particularly in the case of students and their professional development. This study sets out to determine the degree to which the pandemic has impacted the professional development of the students of the Physical Education and Sports College. The paper also aims to highlight the difficulties posed by the online nature of the course material and lessons in relation to aspects such as organizing, communicating, teaching, learning and evaluating the knowledge of the students during the past year. (March 2020- March 2021) In order to assess the difficulties faced by students and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their professional development, a survey with multiple choice answers has been used. For an honest collaboration, the respondents remained anonymous, although for a better understanding of the sample, questions with regards to gender, age and program me of choice were still asked. The survey has 12 questions with 3 or 4 possible choices and aims to determine the preferred methods of teaching and evaluation of the students with relation to their professional development.","PeriodicalId":93216,"journal":{"name":"MOJ sports medicine","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44974064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is unfortunately also a sport which carries a very high risk of concussion and more severe forms of traumatic brain injury (TBI). In a sport where every punch thrown to the opponent’s head is thrown with the intention of winning by causing a knockout (KO), TBI is an omnipresent danger. Traumatic subdural hematoma is the most common cause of boxing related mortality. The boxer either collapses in the ring during the fight or in the immediate aftermath of the fight. Discussion: Boxers with traumatic epidural and subdural hematoma often have a lucid interval and then exhibit rapid at times precipitous neurological deterioration as the hematoma expands. Rapid loss of consciousness follows leading to a comatose state. Development of brain edema and secondary ischemic injury are the other substrates of delayed neurological deterioration. Conclusion: Both the referee and the ringside physician (s) should be aware of this clinical presentation of acute TBI so that the fights can be stopped in a timely fashion, neither too early but certainly never too late! Innovate solutions can help present tragedies in the ring.","PeriodicalId":93216,"journal":{"name":"MOJ sports medicine","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46112652","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
