Agent-based models (ABM) are used to simulate the spread of infectious disease through a population. Detailed human movement, demography, realistic business location networks, and in-host disease progression are available in existing ABMs, such as the Epidemic Simulation System (EpiSimS). These capabilities make possible the exploration of pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical mitigation strategies used to inform the public health community. There is a similar need for the spread of mosquito borne pathogens due to the re-emergence of diseases such as chikungunya and dengue fever. A network-patch model for mosquito dynamics has been coupled with EpiSimS. Mosquitoes are represented as a "patch" or "cloud" associated with a location. Each patch has an ordinary differential equation (ODE) mosquito dynamics model and mosquito related parameters relevant to the location characteristics. Activities at each location can have different levels of potential exposure to mosquitoes based on whether they are inside, outside, or somewhere in-between. As a proof of concept, the hybrid network-patch model is used to simulate the spread of chikungunya through Washington, DC. Results are shown for a base case, followed by varying the probability of transmission, mosquito count, and activity exposure. We use visualization to understand the pattern of disease spread.

Summer Computer Simulation Conference : (SCSC 2014) : 2014 Summer Simulation Multi-Conference : Monterey, California, USA, 6-10 July 2014. In the general framework of modelling and simulation of linear systems under time-continuous - or not - signals, the description of the integrator operator becomes fundamental as well as the description the time delay operator and the concept of output feedback. Therefore, this paper shall present the description of an integrator under piecewise linear input trajectories in a first step, then under trajectories described by a sequence of general order polynomials, ensuring a user given accuracy. Moreover, its remarkable behaviour in case of input discontinuities strongly contrast with the rather poor one of classical numerical solvers. Furthermore a thorough comparison with discrete-time simulation techniques, like the classical Euler one, allows the assessment of an important computational gain using the techniques proposed here. Finally, the complete treatment of an hybrid system example not only illustrates the relevance of this approach, but underlines the interest of its application in the more general context of mixed-mode simulation and distributed simulation.
Summer Computer Simulation Conference : (SCSC 2014) : 2014 Summer Simulation Multi-Conference : Monterey, California, USA, 6-10 July 2014. However, many time management services of existing RTIs have difficult in modification and extension. Although some RTIs avoid this difficulty through modular design, they comply with not IEEE 1516 HLA/RTI but HLA 1.3. In addition, a lot of RTIs made use of well-known Mattern's algorithm for GALT computation. However, Mattern's algorithm has a few limitations for applying to HLA/RTI. \u0000 \u0000This paper proposes a modular design and an implementation of time management service for IEEE 1516 HLA/RTI. We divided the time management service module into two sub-modules: a TIME module and a GALT module and used Mattern's algorithm improved for IEEE 1516 HLA/RTI. The paper also contains several experimental results in order to evaluate our time management service module.
Summer Computer Simulation Conference : (SCSC 2014) : 2014 Summer Simulation Multi-Conference : Monterey, California, USA, 6-10 July 2014. The procedure discards meaningless digits of the point estimator, and all but the left-most non-zero digit of the standard error. The two resulting values are reported, separated by a semicolon. Based on three criteria---minimal loss of statistical information, minimal number of digits required, and appeal to all levels of user sophistication---we advocate our procedure for use when reporting many point estimators in tabular form. Our procedure and format are intended to be widely applicable and appealing for all levels of users. Specifically, naive users are not misled and sophiscated users will find the format useful because the indicate precision is well-defined and the loss of statistical information is insignificant.
Summer Computer Simulation Conference : (SCSC 2014) : 2014 Summer Simulation Multi-Conference : Monterey, California, USA, 6-10 July 2014. A methodology for the parallel simulation of a shipboard power system coupled by short lines is presented. Loop analysis, suggested by the nature of ungrounded power systems, is applied to formulate and solve the system of equations. An approach developed by G. Kron is utilized to partition a line's capacitance to produce isolated sub-networks, which sets up the system for parallel simulation. Upon comparing simulation results from the un-partitioned and partitioned networks and on the basis of Kron's diakoptics, it is concluded that transient simulation using two PCs is better, flop-wise, than using one PC.
Summer Computer Simulation Conference : (SCSC 2014) : 2014 Summer Simulation Multi-Conference : Monterey, California, USA, 6-10 July 2014. An alternative is to divide the model into segments based on their different dynamic behaviors and use different step sizes in different segments. This approach is referred to as multi-rate simulation. It can be used to advantage in some current real-time applications, such as power electronics and automobile engine simulations. These applications can require real-time execution with frame times of a few microseconds or less. These frame times require expensive special-purpose hardware and software. In many cases the components that require this approach represent only a small part of the total system and it is unnecessary to apply it to the rest of the system, which can be simulated with longer frame times. \u0000 \u0000Research is described that aims to combine special-purpose DSP-based high-speed simulations with a conventional realtime Linux system to produce a distributed, multi-rate, realtime simulation. \u0000 \u0000Multi-rate simulation introduces its own problems. Care has to be taken in the communication of data between segments operating at different frame rates. In some cases the use of multi-rate algorithms can induce unstable behavior in the simulation.
Summer Computer Simulation Conference : (SCSC 2014) : 2014 Summer Simulation Multi-Conference : Monterey, California, USA, 6-10 July 2014. The six model levels proposed are universal in nature and can be adopted for categorization of device models in any circuit simulator or finite element (or finite difference) simulator.
