Abstract
This work seeks to determinate whether the transient simulation on two PCs employing diakoptics to partition short cables is better, flop-wise, than using one PC---even for a small network. A methodology for the parallel simulation of a shipboard power system coupled by short lines is presented. Loop analysis, suggested by the nature of ungrounded power systems, is applied to formulate and solve the system of equations. An approach developed by G. Kron is utilized to partition a line's capacitance to produce isolated sub-networks, which sets up the system for parallel simulation. Upon comparing simulation results from the un-partitioned and partitioned networks and on the basis of Kron's diakoptics, it is concluded that transient simulation using two PCs is better, flop-wise, than using one PC.
