Dissemination of Knowledge and Inspiration for 25 years \u0000 \u0000This article describes and evaluates the journal Dansk Sociologi (Danish Sociology) \u0000from its inception in 1989-1990 until its 25th anniversary in 2014. The \u0000Danish Sociological Association took the initiative to set up the journal during \u0000sociology’s institutional crisis due to fact that the Minister of Education had \u0000decided to close the sociology department at the University of Copenhagen, \u0000the only place in Denmark with the discipline. The article discusses the evolution \u0000of the journal’s organizational framework, its authors, editors, and content. \u0000The journal has been used as a vehicle for publication by a large proportion \u0000of Danish sociologists. Subscriptions have been growing until 2006. There \u0000has been a shift from theoretical articles to a wider range of empirical ones, \u0000and from a more discussion-based form to a more detached and standardized \u0000academic one. There has been considerable pluralism, and there have been no \u0000major controversies. The challenges that the journal must address are an internationalization pressure that could weaken authors’ incentives to write for a \u0000Danish journal, the transition to internet media, and finally requirements for \u0000open access that could threaten the journal’s economy. \u0000 \u0000Keywords: the journal Dansk Sociologi, the Danish Sociological Association, \u0000sociology’s history.

Based on 575 hours of ethnographic \u0000fieldwork and 20 interviews with male EMTs, this article explores some key \u0000associations between masculinity and safety practices among male EMTs in \u0000Denmark. The article shows how male EMTs practice safety by positioning \u0000themselves in opposition to a collective narrative of the past: The ”John Wayne and Tarzan Syndrome”. Sometimes this is expressed explicitly in symbolic \u0000boundaries between traditional and modern masculinity practice, but mostly \u0000it is expressed implicitly in the male EMTs’ cultural practices. This cultural \u0000safety/masculinity reconfiguration involves, inter alia, that the male EMTs explicitly \u0000reject the masculine heroic role the media attribute to them. Another \u0000way of breaking with former masculinity practices that emerges in the empirical \u0000material is the widespread emphasis on what I call a ”community of relief” \u0000in the context of collegial processing of harsh ambulance experiences. \u0000 \u0000Keywords: masculinity, safety, practice, ambulance work.

Social Class Differences in Danish Adolescents’ Educational Expectations in 1968 and in 2011 \u0000 \u0000Recent research in educational stratification shows that social class background \u0000affects schooling decisions among equally talented students. Class \u0000inequalities in educational attainment therefore appear to have causes other \u0000than the unequal distribution of academic merits, merits that usually are taken \u0000to be the main vehicle of social mobility in Western democracies. This \u0000article investigates the potential mechanisms behind this unequal distribution \u0000by examining class differences in educational expectations among Danish \u0000adolescents in 1968 and 2011. The paper tests the hypothesis that class differences \u0000in educational expectations are caused by a preference for maintaining \u0000social privileges over generations, a preference rooted in bosom of the family. \u0000The empirical analysis supports the hypotheses. It shows that class differences \u0000in expectations among equally talented students have been remarkably \u0000stable over the four decades separating the two cohorts. Further analyses that \u0000include information on parents’ expectation for the adolescent and on the \u0000educational attainment of grandparents provide additional support for the \u0000hypothesis. The paper argues that future research in educational stratification \u0000would benefit from focusing on expectation processes located in the family, if \u0000it is to fully grasp why class differences in educational attainment appears so \u0000persistent even today. \u0000 \u0000Keywords: inequality of opportunity, education, social class, expectations, \u0000aspirations.

There is a clear norm saying that one should have a risk assessment of the foetus carried out in the early stages of pregnancy.
