One of its neighbourhoods, El Cabo, underwent enormous changes agreed upon in the first general urban planning plan that restructured its disorderly plot of post-conquest origins (1496). It disappeared to be reborn, eliminating all the working-class houses, as well as some streets, leaving three buildings standing: The Hospital of Our Lady of the Forsaken (1749), the San Carlos barracks (1875) and the hermitage of San Telmo (early century xvi). This may be due to procedural chained writting which, in many of cases, had been an obstacle to better understand this period. Moreover, we find a lot of documents relative to the Canary Islands outside the archipelago. The report transcribed here, written by the superintendent of the islands in 1659, who was sent by the Indian Council in 1657, holds a fair amount of synthetic and first hand information relative to the demarcation of the Islands, their peoples, and socioeconomic and cultural characteristics of the Archipelago between 1600 and 1659.","PeriodicalId":82491,"journal":{"name":"Revista de historia canaria","volume":"99 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89915601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The beginning of the activity of the Scientific Cabinet of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, directed by doctor Bethencourt Alfonso, with field work mainly between 1875-1885, led to the recovery of numerous skulls, but very few mummies, except for fragmented specimens from El Chorrillo (El Rosario) and Araya (Candelaria), together with an infant mummy from the Barranco del Infierno (Adeje). This was accompanied and favored by an improvement in its economic activities, mainly from commerce, the port, and associated industries, at the same time that favored a process of urban modernization through the installation of public lighting, drinking water supply, housing construction, etc. Although its achievements were mainly due to a neighborhood that accepted the increasing collection pressure of the local treasury to finance those services, including the use of credit by the municipality. Since the restoration of the Immaculate Conception of the Sanctuary of Christ of La Laguna, we propose a reflection on its sculptural ways, through the study and attribution of a series of images distributed by various churches. The prevailing models influence the artist in the seventeenth century, which, generated from the Court, spread throughout the Hispanic territories. In this study, after a quick review of the little we know about the date of the rediscovery and their discoverer, the three maps drawn by the Mallorquin cartographer Angelino Dulceti will be analyzed and it will be possible to demonstrate that the British Library map ms 25691 predates the better-known 1339 map of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France.","PeriodicalId":82491,"journal":{"name":"Revista de historia canaria","volume":"18 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73112432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
