Abstract

When talking about the rediscovery of the Canary Islands back in the 14th century, it is unavoidable to refer to three main issues: the time of rediscovery, its discoverer, the Genoese Lanzaroto Malocello, and Angelino Dulceti’s map of 1339 in which, supposedly for the first time, three of the Canary Islands are represented. In this study, after a quick review of the little we know about the date of the rediscovery and their discoverer, the three maps drawn by the Mallorquin cartographer Angelino Dulceti will be analyzed and it will be possible to demonstrate that the British Library map ms 25691 predates the better-known 1339 map of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France.
