It is critical that the artificial teeth color remains constant over time when exposed to various cleaning solutions. The objective of the study is to assess the influence of three different commercially available denture cleansers on the color of acrylic resin teeth using the digital photography method and the Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage (CIE) L*a*b* standard. Methodology: Sixty acrylic maxillary central incisor teeth were divided to three groups of 20 samples each. The samples were left immersed in three different denture cleansers (DENSIVE, SECURE and CLINSODENT) for one month, simulating one month of usage by the patient. Digital photography was used to obtain baseline and final color readouts of the teeth on the basis of CIE L*a*b* standard, using image analysis software (Adobe Photoshop Inc System) and the color alteration (ΔE) of the samples was computed. Results: Maximum color change was found in teeth treated with DENSIVE denture cleanser, followed by CLINSODENT and SECURE, respectively. And this was found to be statistically significant (p-value ≥ 0.05). Conclusion: It is possible to deduce that the color stability of acrylic resin teeth is influenced by the use of denture cleansing solutions, and a marked color change was noted with the digital photography method.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy. The study aimed to investigate the prevalence of complications following bichectomy. Materials and Methods: Subjects with chubby faces indicated for the correction of facial shape by bilateral bichectomy were studied. Buccal fat pad excision was performed via intraoral upper gingivobuccal sulcus incision opposite the first and second molar teeth, preserving a cuff of mucosa for closure. All subjects were followed up for six months after surgery. The prevalence of complications after the surgery was assessed. Result: One hundred subjects underwent bilateral bichectomy. The age range of subjects was from 25 to 60 years old. Forty subjects were male, and 60 subjects were female. Among 100 bilateral buccal fat pad excision cases, seven patients complained of trismus; two patients had a hematoma. The post-operation infection rate was 2%. Conclusion: According to the study’s findings, the possible complications resulting from the bichectomy consist of trismus, edema, hematoma, and infection. It seems that bichectomy is a safe procedure, and trismus is the most complication after bichectomy.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy. Many prefer a dental implant as it tries to imitate the natural tooth. Though the notion of immediate loading reduced the time of prosthetic treatment, debate arose whether the loading should be functional or non-functional. The objective of this study was to compare the Peri-implant Bone Level (PIBL) deviations in immediate implant placement with instantaneous functional versus non-functional loading in the mandibular posterior region. Material and Methods: Fifty patients were incorporated in the study and distributed by random sampling into two groups of equal members each. Group A had patients in whom implant was placed followed by immediate functional loading. Group B were those who had non-functional loading. After bone implant integration, temporary crowns were replaced with metal ceramic prosthesis. PIBL change (in mm) of each implant was assessed by periapical radiograph which were taken at immediate post op, after one month and then on three and six months follow up. Statistical analysis was done using software SPSS v 21.0. Comparison between the groups (Mann Whitney U test), intragroup (Friedman’s) and Wilcoxon Signed rank test for pairwise comparison were done. Results: There was PIBL gain mesially and distally of the implants in both the groups in all time intervals of one, three and six months follow up. Conclusions: To conclude immediate implants restored instantly yielded affirmative result as far as survival of the implants, bone level changes and aesthetics of the soft tissues are concerned irrespective of the type of loading.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy. The second one was first utilised for prosthesis on abutment teeth that had periodontal disease and had been treated with resective surgery. In vertical preparation, we can alter gingival tissues to our desired contours using a rigorous, phased approach that includes preparation, provisionalization, and final prosthesis. The technique of vertical preparation in which finish line is absent, is a method in which the abutments are prepared by using a diamond rotary instrument into the sulcus to remove the existing cement-enamel junction and to make a new prosthetic cement-enamel junction controlled by the margin of the prosthesis.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy. Prosthetic restoration of significant alveolar bone loss in the aesthetic zone is often challenging. The Andrews Bridge fixed removable system can be used in such cases as it combines the benefits of a Fixed Partial Denture (FPD) with the aesthetics of a Removable Partial Denture (RPD) to restore lost teeth and gingiva while addressing the aesthetic challenge of significant alveolar bone loss. It reduces the denture bulk and provides good retention and patient comfort. There is no need for palatal or lingual flange covering, as in a regular RPD.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare Tensile Bond Strength (TBS) of two resilient liners after surface treatment of Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) resins by sandblasting and MMA monomer. Materials and Methods: One hundred and sixty PMMA resin blocks were randomly divided into eight groups of 20 blocks each based on type of resilient long term liner used (P=PermaSoft and G=GC Reline Soft) and the surface treatment performed (C=untreated Controls, S=Sandblasted, M=MMA monomer treated and SM=Sandblasted and MMA monomer treated: Group PC (PermaSoft untreated Controls), PS (PermaSoft Sandblasted), PM (PermaSoft MMA monomer treated) and PSM (PermaSoft Sandblasted and MMA monomer treated, GC (GC Reline Soft untreated Controls), GS (GC Reline Soft Sandblasted), GM (GC Reline Soft MMA monomer treated) and GSM (GC Reline Soft Sandblasted and MMA monomer treated). Each specimen was prepared by joining two PMMA resin blocks having standard dimensions of 10 × 10 × 40mm with either of the resilient liner of thickness of 10 × 10 × 3mm. The prepared 80 specimens were subjected to testing of TBS by universal testing machine. Also, the types of failure, whether adhesive, cohesive or mixed, were determined by stereomicroscope. One-way ANOVA followed by Tukey post hoc test was used to compare TBS of different surface treatment group with similar resilient liner. Student T-test was used to compare TBS of different resilient liner with similar surface treatment. The level of significance was set at 0.05. Results: There was highly significant difference in mean TBS of four surface treatment subgroups within both the groups (P<0.001). The Tukey post hoc test showed significant difference (P<0.05) between group PC=0.837 ± 0.120MPa and PSM=1.104 ± 0.234MPa; and GS=1.304 ± 0.261MPa and GM=2.053 ± 0.784MPa and highly significant difference (P<0.001) between group PS=0.741 ± 0.103 MPa) and PSM=1.104 ± 0.234MPa); and GS=1.304 ± 0.261MPa) and GSM=2.176 ± 0.262MPa. The mean TBS of GC Reline Soft was significantly higher (<0.001) than PermaSoft in various surface treatment groups. The overall modes of failures were predominantly cohesive type (63.75%) followed by mixed type (18.75%) and adhesive type (17.50%). Conclusions: All groups tested had mean bond strength values greater than the minimum acceptable standard (0.44MPa) for clinical application. MMA monomer treatment alone or in combination with sandblasting resulted in increase of the mean TBS whereas sandblasting resulted in decrease of the mean TBS of both PermaSoft and GC Reline Soft specimens.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy. Methodology: The sample consisted of 35 Grade II mandibular molar furcation defects planed for open flap debridement (OFD) (Group 1, n=12), Platelet-rich fibrin membrane + Hydroxyapatite (HA) with OFD (Group 2, n=12), and Collagen membrane (CM) + HA with OFD (Group 3, n=11). These were recorded at baseline and 9 months postoperatively for plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), probing depth (PPD), relative vertical and relative horizontal clinical attachment levels (RVCAL and RHCAL), and intrabony defect depth (IBD). Results: PI and GI scores decreased significantly in all three groups at 9 months postoperatively as compared to baseline scores. After 9 months of follow up visits mean PD reduction was greater in Group 2 (3.66 ± 0.98 mm) and Group 3 (3.45 ± 1.5 mm) than Group 1 (2.08 ± 0.90 mm), and mean RVCAL and RHCAL gain were greater in Group 2 (3.25 ± 0.75 mm and 3.92 ± 0.29 mm, respectively) and Group 3 (3.09 ± 0.70 mm and 3.89 ± 0.54 mm) compared with Group 1 (1.33 ± 0.77 mm and 2.25 ± 0.62 mm). A significant reduction in IBD depth was found in Groups 2 (2.16*0.38 mm) and 3 (1.58*0.35 mm) than in Group 1 (0.70*0.15 mm). The differences in PI, GI, PPD, RVCAL, and RHCAL between Groups 2 and 3 at baseline and 9 months were not statistically significant. There was a statistically significant difference in the depth reduction of IBD between Groups 2 and 3 at nine months. Conclusion: Within the scope of this study, it can be stated that the use of HA in conjunction with PRF or CM in the treatment of grade II mandibular furcation abnormalities resulted in a considerable reduction in GI PI, PPD, RVCAL, RHCAL, and IBD depth on follow up visit at 9 months after surgery. However, the combination of HA with PRF membrane exhibited significant improvement in radiographic parameters in comparison to the combination of HA with Collagen membrane.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy.
