These anatomic variants of sinonasal regions pneumatize inferiorly and medial to the orbital floor and towards the inferior of maxillary sinus. Hence, the present study was to determine the prevalence of Haller's cells using CT PNS images. Objectives: The purpose of the study is to determine the prevalence of Haller’s cells according to age and gender, to evaluate the relationship between Haller’s cells and maxillary sinusitis and to correlate between Haller’s cells and ipsilateral orbital floor dehiscence. Methods: CT PNS images of 60 patients within the age group of 16-75 years were retrieved, screened by a radiologist and analyzed. The data collected were subjected to statistical analysis analyzed with statistical software package, SPSS version 16.0. and p value < 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results: The prevalence of Haller's cells in the present study was found to be 48%. There was no statistically significant association between the presence of Haller cells with respect to age and gender. There was a significant association between Haller cells with maxillary sinusitis and orbital floor dehiscence. Conclusion: This study has attempted to find the prevalence of Haller’s cells which will be helpful for dentists in specifying the differential diagnosis for Oro facial pain and maxillary sinusitis.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy. It occurs in all age groups and in both genders. There is a recent raise in the occurrence of dental caries the prevalence of which is different worldwide. Owing to various factors immigrants may be at a higher risk of diseases including dental caries. Iranian students form a crux of educational system in Bangalore whose general health and oral health needs to be monitored. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted using 250 Indian students and 250 Iranian students. A wellstructured questionnaire was distributed among 500 students. Results: The answers from the questionnaire were scored and entered into excel sheets and submitted for statistical analysis. The results obtained were presented as cumulative percentile and the DMFT index of Indian and Iranian students was analyzed using ANOVA test showed a p value of 0.05. Interpretation and Conclusion: DMFT index of Indian and Iranian students showed that more emphasis was given to restorative measures than preventive measures due to lack of knowledge.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy. However, the findings of these studies conducted in different population differ due to racial/ ethnic differences. Objective: To obtain measurement data for various cranial base parameters and evaluate the variation in cranial base morphology among different sagittal skeletal malocclusion in Nepalese population. Materials and Methods: Manual tracing and measurement of 4 different cranial base parameters [linear- Anterior Cranial Base Length (ACBL), Posterior Cranial Base Length (PCBL) and Total Cranial Base Length (TCBL); angular - Cranial Base Angle (CBA)] were done on 90 pretreatment lateral cephalogram of healthy adult orthodontic patients. Study samples were matched for age and were equally distributed among three different sagittal skeletal malocclusion group using ANB angle. [skeletal Class I: 30, skeletal Class II: 30 and skeletal Class III: 30]. Analysis Of Variances [ANOVA] followed by Least Significant Difference (LSD) post hoc test was used to determine difference in cranial base measurements among three sagittal skeletal group. Results: While comparing the cranial base parameters among different sagittal skeletal class, mean value for all the parameters reduced systematically from skeletal Class II, via skeletal Class I, to skeletal Class III group. However, a statistically significant difference was found only for TCBL between skeletal Class II and skeletal Class III (p < 0.01). Conclusions: A significant difference in TCBL among different sagittal skeletal malocclusion was observed in Nepalese adults.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy. As maxillary canine is the last permanent tooth to erupt (except third molars), it is most prevalent to be malpositioned or remain impacted due to tooth size arch length discrepancy. The orthodontic treatment of impacted maxillary canine remains a challenge to today's clinicians. The treatment of this clinical entity usually involves surgical exposure of the impacted tooth, followed by orthodontic traction to guide and align it into the dental arch so that it comes into occlusion. Auxiliary springs have been used in orthodontics since long for correction of impacted/unerupted canines or adjacent teeth. Cantilever springs are preferred than the continuous wires as placement of continuous flexible wires for correction of these single tooth malocclusions produces an adverse effect on adjacent teeth. A common disadvantage in all of the loops and techniques mentioned above is that it offers a poor anchorage control in extraction cases. Usually the root of impacted canines is near the cortical bone and needs to be brought into cancellous bone, so as to prevent the resorption and also faster movement of the canine. Keeping these points in mind we designed a loop, which fulfills most of the shortcomings, which are discussed above. This loops is called “A loop” as its shape resembles the shape of alphabet “A”. The design, fabrication, biomechanics, advantages and disadvantages of “A loop” are discussed in this article.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy. The poor standard of research and its methodology is of grave concern. The applications of novel technologies and translating the newer researches for the benefit of community’s diagnosis, prevention and treatment needs, must be a priority in years to come. As a part of three paper series, the present paper brings forth the burden, current research and future research directions in the field of malocclusion and dentofacial anomalies in India. Malocclusion effects nearly 45% of adolescents, 1/3 of which require orthodontic care. Although technological advances in material sciences and advanced digital technology has refined the appliances much less attention has been paid on etiology and biological basis of orthodontics. The congenital birth defects of face and other denfofacial deformities also require a deeper understanding of etiology and most appropriate treatment protocol. This Manuscript summarizes current research and proposes future areas of research in this field.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy. Material and Methods: A study was designed as a descriptive cross-sectional study which was conducted among a sampled population of supermarket consumers in Chennai city. Chennai city was divided into 3 zones based on the parliamentary assembly constituencies and from each zone two supermarkets were randomly selected. Data was collected using a closed ended questionnaire. Data collected was tabulated and analyzed using SPSS software package version 16. Results: Majority (71%) were not aware of the rules guiding the display of contents in the food products which they purchased. 46.5% of the participants were more interested in the carbohydrate and protein content of the food products while only 13.2% were interested in the sugar content. About 65% were aware of the positive association between excessive sugar consumption of sugar and incidence of various diseases. Mere 51% of the study participants expressed their interest to know more information regarding the risk benefit of sugar consumption. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, it can be concluded that the majority of the supermarket consumers in Chennai city were not aware of the display of contents in their purchased products, including its sugar content. Though majority of them were aware of the association between sugar consumption and disease, they did not perceive sugar in the purchased food products as a potential risk factor.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy.
