These gingival growths may range from being reactive lesions like inflammatory hyperplasia to malignant growths. Hence, histopathological examination and diagnosis of all these lesions on excision are mandatory. One such uncommon tumor-like growth of the gingiva is Oral Focal Mucinosis (OFM). It is a rare lesion originally reported by Tomich in 1974. Clinically, it mimics the common benign oral tumors of the gingiva. Only while grossing of the specimen, the first indication of it being an OFM with a differential diagnosis of myxoma is evident. Histopathological examination and special stains help in the final diagnosis. Currently, considered to be a degenerative change in a reactive lesion, simple excision has been the line of treatment with a good prognosis. Through these case reports we attempt to make this lesion familiar to the practicing dentists.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy. Either the central nerve sheath or the peripheral nerve sheath may be the source of them. The retropharyngeal area, epiglottis, palate, mouth floor, etc., are the most frequently occurring places. Schwann cells, which create the myelin sheath that covers peripheral nerves, give rise to benign non-odontogenic tumours known as schwannomas or neurilemmomas. The majority of schwannomas are slow growing, clearly defined, unilocular, encapsulated lesions with a range of symptoms. Due to the course of the inferior alveolar nerve, the mandible, particularly in the posterior portion of the body and ramus, is the most frequent site of occurrence of intraoral schwannomas. Microscopically, schwannomas have a well-defined perimeter, a capsule around them, and regions that are made up of fascicles of Schwann cells with a spindle cell shape (Antoni A pattern) and microcystic areas (Antoni B pattern). This case report includes the surgical treatment for a rare instance of peripheral soft tissue schwannoma of the mandible along with its surgical management and histological examination.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy. However, contamination of the impressions from the rubber bowl is not known. The transfer of microorganisms to the oral cavity by the alginate mixed in an unsterilized rubber bowl is a possibility. The objective of this study is to find out the fomite contamination of alginate impressions from rubber bowls and evaluate the role of chemical and herbal disinfectants against them. Methodology: Thirty volunteers were included in the study and they were grouped into six groups (one control and five study groups). Three chemical disinfectants and two herbal disinfectants were used to disinfect the rubber bowl before impressions. The presence of pathogens and the number of colony-forming units were evaluated. Results: Harmful pathogens like Staphylococcus species, E. coli, Pseudomonas species, Bacillus species, and Klebsiella species have been detected under a light microscope on the surface of the rubber bowl. There was a significant decrease in the number of colony-forming units on alginate impressions after the rubber bowl was disinfected. Herbal disinfectants showed a profound decrease in the transmission of organisms compared to chemical disinfectants. Conclusion: The presence of fomite contamination in the routine impression has been confirmed in the study. All the disinfectants showed a significant reduction in colony-forming units when the rubber bowl was disinfected. Both the plant extracts showed an effective decrease in Colony-Forming Units (CFU) per ml and were as effective in eliminating pathogens as the chemical disinfectants. Hence, plant extracts of Neem and Babool can be a viable alternative to chemical disinfectants on rubber bowls.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy. Methods: A prospective interventional study was conducted at a tertiary care centre over three months, involving patients with mucormycosis of the paranasal sinuses suffering from or having a history of Coronavirus Disease infection (COVID-19) who underwent debridement surgery. A protocol was formulated incorporating all the departments involved in the management of post-COVID-19 Associated Mucormycosis (CAM) patients. A separate protocol for early prosthetic rehabilitation was also developed. Results: Twenty patients underwent surgical and medical intervention along with prosthetic rehabilitation for CAM. All of the patients were post COVID-19 infected and had developed acute symptoms. The maxillary sinus was affected in all these patients and 25% of the patients had involvement of the orbit along with the maxillary sinus. All patients had been administered steroids during the treatment for COVID-19-associated illness. Infrastructure maxillectomy of the right side was done in 35% of patients, bilateral maxillectomy was done in 30% of patients, and two patients underwent infrastructure maxillectomy and orbital exenteration of the right side. Six patients received a surgical obturator inserted on the second-day post-maxillectomy, 8 patients received an intermediate obturator inserted on the 10th-12th day post-maxillectomy and 6 patients received a silicone obturator inserted on the 14th-18th day after bilateral maxillectomy. Conclusions: Early management, prompt treatment and post-operative comprehensive rehabilitation towards an optimum Quality of Life (QOL) can be achieved for good prognosis in patients affected by CAM. The prosthetic rehabilitation protocol provided prosthesis earlier and faster to the patients that improved their QOL.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy. It is common in the mandibular first molar, but its occurrence in the mandibular second molar is scarcely reported in the literature. Two-dimensional imaging can diagnose anatomical root canal variations when taken with different horizontal angulations. With the recent innovations in three-dimensional diagnostic imaging, cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) can aid in unfolding the complexities of the root canal system. Accurate diagnosis by CBCT leads to the success of endodontic treatment. A rare case of radix entomolaris in the mandibular second molar in an Indian female is reported here with three of its CBCT findings. Imaging in all three dimensions, oblique sections and volume rendering by CBCT proved to be of additional help to understand the complex anatomy and root canal morphology of the tooth.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy. During impression making using the conventional impression technique force is exerted resulting in distortion ofthe mobile tissue and thus leading to loss of retention, stability, and support of the denture. To overcome these difficultiesmany modified impression techniques have been proposed that help to record the fibrous tissues in undistorted form. Thisarticle presents three case reports for prosthodontic management of patients with flabby ridges using different impressiontechniques.","PeriodicalId":77222,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy (Pierre Fauchard Academy.
