However, recently they are receiving attention in network science in general, e.g., for knowledge graphs and artificial intelligence. Assuming that the network is not error-free or contains multiple layers, we can identify challenges for their quality. For example, historical and narrative texts in ancient languages are usually challenging for natural language processing methods and artificial intelligence technologies developed for modern languages due to their complexity and missing models. In addition, due to quiet sources, nodes and edges in the network may be missing, which might influence the results of SNA. Other aspects may also have an effect on data, as many networks include additional layers, e.g.<!--> <!-->spatial information or archaeological artifacts. This extends to knowledge graphs. In this paper, we will summarize, compare and evaluate existing and novel methods to analyze the robustness of networks. We introduce a method with different removal strategies to analyze how additional or missing layers, nodes, or edges in a random network influence centrality measures. We can show that the robustness of social networks regardless of the error measures heavily relies on network structures, which brings up several new challenges for future research. In general, we may assume networks to be rather robust against small errors and few missing data if they follow a scale-free distribution. The results of this paper are not limited to social networks but can be applied in all fields working with centrality measures.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":74826,"journal":{"name":"Social sciences & humanities open","volume":"11 ","pages":"Article 101183"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143103372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During a 12-week course, 91 undergraduate students engaged in writing various types of academic essays, receiving iterative feedback and participating in collaborative writing tasks aimed at enhancing both technical proficiency and metacognitive awareness. Employing narrative inquiry, the study analyzed students' reflective essays to identify the key factors shaping their mindsets. The findings indicate that challenges related to grammar and sentence structure, vocabulary limitations, and the need for continuous effort significantly shape students' mindsets of their writing abilities. Furthermore, factors such as a focus on improving vocabulary and grammar, consistent writing practices, exposure to English materials, and the pursuit of guidance and feedback emerged as crucial influences on their efforts to enhance their English essay composition skills. The combination of active learning strategies and regular, structured feedback facilitated the development of a growth-oriented mindset among students, fostering resilience and persistence in their writing improvement.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":74826,"journal":{"name":"Social sciences & humanities open","volume":"11 ","pages":"Article 101273"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143093964","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Given that researchers' interactions with and perceptions of these technologies can substantially influence academic procedures and outputs, identifying the key determinants of their incorporation into university environments is crucial. This investigation pursued two main objectives: first, to identify the variables that condition the implementation of AI models in research activities, and second, to analyze how perceived ethical considerations and academic integrity influence their adoption. The empirical study was conducted through a digital survey administered to 302 academic researchers from Peruvian public and private universities. The analytical methodology employed structural equation modeling and confirmatory factor analysis, grounded in an expanded version of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 model. The results demonstrated that six out of nine hypotheses were supported; social influence, educational self-efficacy, and academic integrity were identified as primary factors predicting researchers' use of AI models. Effort expectancy had a significant negative effect on AI model use. Furthermore, the use of AI models was found to significantly influence both teachers' concerns and perceived ethics among academics. Notably, performance expectancy, technological self-efficacy, and personal anxiety did not significantly affect AI model use. This study contributes to the understanding of AI adoption in academic research by highlighting the importance of social, educational, and ethical factors. These findings have implications for developing policies and training programs to promote responsible AI use in higher education and suggest a need to reevaluate traditional technology acceptance models in the context of AI in academia.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":74826,"journal":{"name":"Social sciences & humanities open","volume":"11 ","pages":"Article 101274"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143093967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the success of cultural tourism initiatives hinges upon local communities' awareness and perception of their cultural heritage resources. While the potential for cultural tourism in the southern circuit of Tanzania is apparent, there is a lack of comprehensive research on the local community's awareness of cultural heritage resources. By using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, focus group discussion, and observation, this study investigates the awareness and perceptions of the local community towards cultural heritage in the Katavi Region. Findings suggest varying awareness and perceptions of cultural heritage resources within the local community. Specifically, while some participants exhibit high levels of appreciation and interest, others demonstrate limited awareness and uncertainty towards cultural tourism initiatives. Furthermore, factors such as education, socioeconomic status, and cultural identity influence individuals' attitudes toward appreciation of cultural heritage. The paper emphasizes inclusive strategies that foster local involvement and enhance the value placed on cultural heritage. These findings can help policymakers and stakeholders create specific interventions to improve awareness and community involvement in cultural tourism initiatives.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":74826,"journal":{"name":"Social sciences & humanities open","volume":"11 ","pages":"Article 101295"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143094562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On a broad level, there is a solid understanding of the term sustainability and its TBL, however, when adopted in the construction sector, different stakeholders have different perceptions about the TBL of sustainability. None of the reviewed papers have considered analyzing the TBL of sustainability and how it impacts the stakeholders' perception of sustainability and their willingness to adopt sustainable construction measures in the UAE. Therefore, the aim of this research is to examine the relationship between the TBL of sustainability and subsequently evaluate stakeholders' perceptions of sustainability's environmental, economic, and social pillars within the UAE construction industry and assess their willingness to adopt sustainable practices. The literature was synthesized to design a survey, which was validated by the nominal group technique and gathered responses from 129 stakeholders in the construction sector, effectively capturing their perceptions of the TBL of sustainability. The responses were used to develop a theoretical model analyzed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling. The findings revealed that stakeholders working in the UAE construction industry recognize the economic and social merits linked to environmental protection. Moreover, the favorable outcomes linked to the economic and social pillars positively influence stakeholders' perceptions and willingness to adopt sustainable practices in the construction industry.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":74826,"journal":{"name":"Social sciences & humanities open","volume":"11 ","pages":"Article 101276"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143094655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data were collected through audio and video recordings, worksheets, and reflective essays. Findings indicate that while participants effectively understood and simplified problems, they faced challenges in model development and verification, often over-relying on technology without critical evaluation of their outputs. The study emphasizes the dual role of technology as both a facilitator and a potential barrier to deeper understanding. On April 11, 2022, during the COVID-19 pandemic, millennial and Gen-Z students led widespread protests in several Indonesian cities. This study examines Indonesian student demonstration slogans using the conceptual model of cultuling analysis. The research data originated from demonstration posters from higher students posted on Twitter and X. A total of 73 posters contained a mix of Indonesian, local, and foreign phrases. These posters were widely circulated on social media “X\" and went viral among netizens. The conceptual model of cultuling analysis, which encompasses delivery, emotional, and cultural values with 16 parameters, was used to analyze the data. The demonstration slogans incorporated humor, sarcasm, and references to popular culture. Slogans were often written in all caps, including social media hashtags. Men and women demonstrators style their messages differently, but both express shared feelings of frustration and disappointment with the government and its policies. Speech acts that used creative linguistic strategies, emotional expressions that ranged from anger to satirical critique, and cultural values that reflected complex societal dynamics of power, gender, and social resistance. Mixed languages and popular terms reflect linguistic diversity due to globalization. Men tended to use more direct language, whereas women used examples from their everyday lives. Recognizing sexist undertones in certain slogans underscores the importance of gender sensitivity in public discourse. Therefore, sexism in some slogans highlights the need to increase gender awareness in public and political communication.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":74826,"journal":{"name":"Social sciences & humanities open","volume":"11 ","pages":"Article 101267"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143094660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the experiences and perspectives of LGBTQ+ caregivers remain poorly understood within health and social systems. Caregiving research has traditionally focused on heterosexual caregivers, often overlooking the distinct experiences of LGBTQ+ caregivers. This scoping review compiles literature that highlights the unique challenges, needs, and support systems required by LGBTQ+ caregivers. We used Arksey &amp; O'Malley's five-step iterative scoping review methodology and identified relevant studies through a search of three electronic databases conducted on May 11, 2023. A total of 57 items were included in this review: 13 quantitative studies, 22 qualitative studies, 6 mixed methods studies, 2 scoping reviews, 1 literature review, and 13 grey literature records. Through a thematic synthesis, we identified five major themes: LGBTQ+ caregivers are highly active in providing informal care; queer caregiving has unique complexities; LGBTQ+ caregivers want to feel recognized and understood; LGBTQ+ caregivers are at high risk of becoming overwhelmed; and challenges navigating heteronormative health systems. This scoping review highlights the distinct experiences of LGBTQ+ family and friend caregivers and their specific support needs within their caregiving role. Findings from this review highlight the importance of healthcare professionals receiving comprehensive LGBTQ+ focused education to better understand and support LGBTQ+ caregivers. We emphasize the need of LGBTQ+ caregivers to feel recognized and understood within health systems, highlighting that this population of caregivers is at higher risk of becoming overwhelmed. While freedom and security are often positioned as dichotomous concepts, striking a delicate balance between them for democratic country becomes a challenge. Autocracies, meanwhile, have adeptly engaged in information warfare, exploiting both the asymmetric nature of sharp power and the obligation of democracies to uphold freedom.</div><div>This is particularly evident in the realm of the Internet and social media, where the nature of communication amplifies opportunities for malicious actors. Additionally, the visual power of the Internet, largely embodied in memes, emotionally resonates with audiences. Memes act as agents of influence and change, shaping values and perceptions, and become instruments of information disorder by simplifying complex issues through emotionally charged content. They spread rapidly and are difficult to trace. Through this process, memes contribute to identity creation and transformation, advancing broader political aims, popularizing political leaders and regimes, exploiting sensitive topics from both the present and the past, and heightening the sense of social inequality.</div><div>This article aims at comprehending how meme as an information warfare tool functions in the democratic and autocratic contexts. We find that while well-coordinated dissemination of pro-authoritarian content could make open media markets in democracies vulnerable to manipulation, and state controlled in the autocracies makes the latter more resilient. However, we argue that this asymmetry should not lead liberal democracies to prioritize physical resilience methods over cognitive ones, as the mid-term effectiveness of the cognitive approach (“teaching people how to fish”) may ultimately prove more sustainable. Over-reliance on stricter measures in liberal democracies may have drawbacks, potentially undermining the very freedoms they aim to protect.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":74826,"journal":{"name":"Social sciences & humanities open","volume":"11 ","pages":"Article 101247"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143093662","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
