A randomized controlled experimental design with pre-test, post-test and one month follow-up was used. The study sample consisted of 28 cancer patients (experimental: 14, control: 14). Data were collected using a personal information form, the Forgiveness Scale, the Short Form of the Self-Compassion Scale, and the Death Anxiety Scale. The results showed that the experimental group had significantly higher post-test and follow-up mean scores for forgiveness and self-compassion compared to the control group (p < .05). In addition, the post-test and follow-up mean scores for death anxiety were significantly lower in the experimental group than in the control group (p < .05). The study concluded that forgiveness psychoeducation increases forgiveness and self-compassion and reduces death anxiety in cancer patients. Based on these results, it is recommended that forgiveness psychoeducation programmes be implemented.
","PeriodicalId":74338,"journal":{"name":"Omega","volume":" ","pages":"302228251361689"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144638850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 36 college students who experienced friends' suicidal events. A constant comparative method was used to analyze the data. 10 themes were found across facilitators, barriers, or ambivalent factors. Anticipated guilt, compassion, availability of social support, and presence of a cooperative group were identified as facilitators that promote gatekeeping behaviors. On the other hand, numbness and exhaustion due to repeated suicidal crises, lack of information on gatekeeping, helplessness, distrust in mental health services, and logistical constraints were classified as barriers to gatekeeping. Lastly, gatekeepers' prior suicidality was identified as an ambivalent factor to gatekeeping behaviors. The findings indicated that gatekeepers' feelings and accessible social support have a great impact on gatekeeping behaviors.
","PeriodicalId":74338,"journal":{"name":"Omega","volume":" ","pages":"302228251361666"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144638849","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, less is known about the possible benefits for people experiencing grief. Aim: To explore what is known about using psychedelics to attend to grief following death due to advanced illness. Design: This scoping review followed Arskey and O'Malley's methodological framework and adheres to the PRISMA-ScR reporting guidelines. Searches were conducted in seven databases in April 2023, and updated in December 2023. No limits or filters were applied. The quality of the papers was not appraised. Results: Of the 4614 records screened, 18 reports were included. Seven are empirical investigations of the impact of psychedelics on grief. This literature is informed by different epistemologies, ontologies, and conceptualizations of grief, adding a layer of complexity and potential for conflict to arise due to differing perspectives. Overall, there is little high-quality evidence about the use of psychedelics to attend to grief. However, across the empirical studies, positive outcomes were generally reported (i.e., reduction in grief symptom severity), with few studies reporting adverse events or negative outcomes. Conclusion: There is not a strong evidence base to guide clinical recommendations for applying psychedelics to the problem of grief at this time. Moving forward, psychedelic authors and researchers can explicitly situate their work (e.g., position, interests) to assist with interpretability of findings, and integrate theory from the field of grief studies, which may require collaborations with grief therapists and theorists to guide future work.
","PeriodicalId":74338,"journal":{"name":"Omega","volume":" ","pages":"302228251359366"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144610536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We conducted 34 interviews with staff/volunteers who provide bereavement care to explore their practice and perceptions of care delivery. Five themes were identified through thematic and framework analysis: 1. Conceptualisation of bereavement was setting dependent; 2. Formal versus informal delivery of care; 3. Current bereavement care, referral pathways, and evaluation; 4. Barriers and Facilitators to accessing and providing care; 5. An ideal bereavement model of care. This research highlighted gaps in services and suggests a disconnect between current practice and ideal bereavement care delivery. We present an evidence-based bereaved-centred model of care, that can be tailored to fit specific health context and settings. A retrospective study in adult palliative care settings was conducted using the ParaPall survey, created by the authors, between October 2022 and January 2023. Participants answered a demographic questionnaire, ParaPall survey, PANAS score, and Intrinsic Spirituality Scale. A sample of 137 participants was obtained, with 89.4% reporting at least one phenomenon. Terminal lucidity (84.7%) and patients passing shortly after significant visits were the most reported. Professionals who reported more phenomenon tended to adopt a spiritual interpretation (p < .001) and showed a higher investment in patient care, while nonspiritual interpretations were linked to avoidance behaviors. Paranormal phenomena influence spiritual beliefs and professional well-being. Results emphasize the need for open discussions and training to help professionals navigate these experiences, enhancing patient care and provider well-being.
","PeriodicalId":74338,"journal":{"name":"Omega","volume":" ","pages":"302228251347052"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144562257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer (LGBTQ+) people in the UK have increasing expectations of equitable service delivery, including in relation to funerals. However, they experience inequalities in palliative and end-of-life care, and anticipate associated barriers to equitable funeral provision. Concerns relate to funeral providers' actual/potential heteronormative and cisnormative assumptions; sexuality and or gender identity invalidation; same-sex relationship non-recognition, and discounting of 'families of choice'. These concerns are heightened regarding family of origin, who are not LGBTQ+ accepting. This article analyses UK websites marketing LGBTQ+ funeral services. Using queer and feminist approaches to death equity, and Nancy Fraser's model of social justice, it argues that these funeral services constitute both pursuit of the 'pink pound' and resistance to heteronormative and cisnormative funeral traditions. The article proposes research agenda to explore these issues in greater depth.
","PeriodicalId":74338,"journal":{"name":"Omega","volume":" ","pages":"302228251354822"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144546427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This phenomenological qualitative study explores the lived experiences and meanings older bereaved parents attribute to their loss. Data from 24 participants were collected through written narratives guided by structured questions, and online focus groups. Inductive thematic analysis revealed 6 themes: the enduring intensity of grief, significant secondary losses, feelings of isolation and alienation, the role of social support in coping, and spirituality and religion's influence on their journey.
