Thymomas may be accompanied by a minimal, marked or an overwhelming lymphoid reaction, pointing to the degree of the cellular defensive mechanism. According to the findings, two main types of thymoma with minimal lymphoid reaction (light and dark cell types) can be distinguished. All the 7 light cell thymomas with minimal lymphoid reaction proved to be malignant in their clinical course. Thymomas of light cell origin with marked lymphoid reaction may be clinically benign or malignant. Thymomas with overwhelming lymphoid reaction were clinically benign. The clinical behavior of the dark cell thymomas was benign. The dark cell thymomas could be divided into subgroups with solid, lacunar and spindle cell forms. Three non-Hodgkin type thymic lymphomas were observed. The T cell origin of one of these tumours was demonstrated immunologically. All the five cases of Hodgkin type thymic lymphoma were morphologically identical to the modular sclerotic form of lymphogranulomatosis.
","PeriodicalId":72058,"journal":{"name":"Acta morphologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae","volume":"29 2-3","pages":"109-25"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1981-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"18328659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to the author epithelial-proliferation which not only appears alarming at this stage but is also on the edge of malignancy is quite frequent at this age. However, based on thorough follow-up examinations he warns of too quick and unfavourable judgement regarding epithelial-proliferation as none of the 119 cases cited have become malignant through the years observed. {"title":"The luteinizing hormone releasing hormone-containing pathways and their co-termination with tanycyte processes in and around the median eminence and in the pituitary stalk of the rat.","authors":"M Réthelyi, S Vígh, G Sétáló, I Merchenthaler, B Flerkó, P Petrusz","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

The origin, course and termination of two luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LH-RH)-containing pathways were studied in the brain of rats by immunohistochemistry. In addition, the joint termination of LH-RH-containing nerve terminals and tanycyte processes over a rostro-caudally elongated belt surrounding the median eminence (ME) is described. The preoptico-infundibular tract originates from neurons confined to a pyramid-shaped area between the anterior commissure, the organum vasculosum laminae terminalis (OVLT) and the most caudal level of the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCH). The axons of these neurons form three fascicles. Fibres of the median fascicle run in caudal direction on the dorsal and ventral surfaces of the optic chiasma. Fibres of the medial fascicle run along the lateral border of the SCH towards the retrochiasmatic area. Fibres of the lateral fascicle course laterally in close contact with the concave dorsomedial surface of the optic tract. These latter fibres gradually turn in medial direction and reach the lateral margin of the ME. The caudal LH-RH fibre tract was characterized only partially because the perikarya giving rise to these fibres were not identified. The fibres run rostrally among the ependymal cells of the mesencephalic aqueduct and form two fascicles. The fibres of the mammillary fascicle enter, and seem to terminate, in the medial mammillary nucleus, while the fibres of the tuberal fascicle course rostrally and join the fibres of the preoptico-infundibular tract. The surface areas of the brain along which LH-RH fibres terminate (retrochiasmatic area, inframammillary region, lateral margin of the ME) were found to display a special surface covering formed by tanycyte processes. The course of LH-RH fibre tracts described here is in good agreement with earlier experimental results on the localization of neural pathways controlling ovulation and the secretion of pituitary gonadotropic hormones. The significance of the joint termination of LH-RH fibres and tanycyte processes, especially in areas where portal capillaries are absent, remains unclear.
","PeriodicalId":72058,"journal":{"name":"Acta morphologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae","volume":"29 2-3","pages":"259-83"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1981-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"18079193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Around the 15th fetal day many mitoses are present in the primordium of the SCH, and the 3rd cerebral ventricle is continuous with the eye cup. Between the 16th and 18th fetal days, tightly packed, uniform, small neurons, containing mainly polyribosomes, become differentiated. On the 17th fetal day, synapse-like formations (presynapses), while on the 18th day, synapses make their appearance on the dendrites. The number and degree of maturity of the synapses increase gradually. On the 20th fetal day, the neuropil of the SCH is characterized by a lattice-like structure; the larger dendrites cross each other, the spaces are filled with small bundles of delicate processes, supposedly axons. The fetal and early postnatal morphogenesis of the SCH seems to show a close resemblance to that of the arcuate nucleus investigated earlier by us.
","PeriodicalId":72058,"journal":{"name":"Acta morphologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae","volume":"29 2-3","pages":"227-39"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1981-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"18328509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Effects of cyclophosphamide on the rat's mesenteric lymph node.","authors":"N K Loc, I Oláh, Z Kittner, L Takács, I Törö","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

A single large dose (200 mg) of cyclophosphamide (Cy) given to adult rats caused a drastic depletion of lymphocytes occurring earlier in the B dependent compartment than in the T dependent one of the lymph node cortex. The drug had a somewhat facilitating effect on the early differentiation of plasma cells (between 12 and 24 h) which later were also depleted. By Cy administration two types of macrophage were distinguished morphologically and topographically in the lymph nodes. Cy effect the endothelial cells lining the blood vessels and lymph sinuses. From day 4 to 7 Cy caused a constant flooding of red blood cells into the lymph node sinuses like in the normal rat haemolymph gland. Regeneration of the mesenteric lymph nodes occurred by a repopulation of lymphoid cells and a proliferation of other cell types. Repopulation of the B dependent compartment lagged behind that of the T dependent compartment. Regeneration of endothelial cells seemed to be one of the factors facilitating the repopulation of lymphoid cells. The distribution of T and B dependent cells in different compartments of the rat lymph node and activation of mononuclear phagocytes in Cy treated rat lymph node are discussed.
","PeriodicalId":72058,"journal":{"name":"Acta morphologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae","volume":"29 4","pages":"335-51"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1981-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"18352433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Silver staining of protoplasmic astrocytes by physical development. 原生质星形胶质细胞物理发育的银染色。
F Gallyas
{"title":"Silver staining of protoplasmic astrocytes by physical development.","authors":"F Gallyas","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

The protoplasmic astrocytes adsorb complex Ag(SCN)2- ions from a 40% sodium rhodanide solution containing 1% silver nitrate. The complex is decomposed during a subsequent washing with 5% sodium carbonate, by the excess of rhodanide ions being removed from the sections. Thus, colloid AgSCN grains are made to deposit in the protoplasmic astrocytes. These grains will be reduced first to metallic silver, then enlarged to microscopic dimensions by means of a special physical developer, rendering the protoplasmic astrocytes visible. A pretreatment with 0.01% iodine dissolved in 5% potassium iodide is used to suppress the simultaneous staining of some unwanted tissue elements.
","PeriodicalId":72058,"journal":{"name":"Acta morphologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae","volume":"29 2-3","pages":"169-76"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1981-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"17237355","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
