Some researchers have found that individuals act more morally after physical cleansing, whereas others have observed the reverse effect. Building on embodied cognition theory, which holds that cognition is developed from physical experience and that this experience in turn guides their responses, we hypothesized that physical cleansing would have a general impact on individuals' moral activities by highlighting themselves. In contrast to previous research, we did not expect that physical cleansing would directly make people more (im)moral. Two experiments were conducted to test our hypotheses. In experiment 1, participants who had bathed showed reduced susceptibility to external moral priming (morality-related descriptions of themselves) than did control participants. Experiment 2 showed that physical cleansing (but not the control condition) amplified the interplay among participants' moral activities, depending on the order of immoral behavior and intention measurement. Taken together, these results suggest that physical cleansing strengthens the connection between individuals' morality and bodily experiences, weakening the effect of external priming (experiment 1) and enhancing the influence of moral activities performed by themselves (experiment 2). Although further research is required to provide direct evidence for these findings, our study contributes to the integration of inconsistencies in previous findings by suggesting a new perspective for the understanding of the embodied effect of physical cleansing.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":7141,"journal":{"name":"Acta Psychologica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2024-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142455558","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The scale consistes of four factors—emotionality (EM), self-control (SC), wellbeing (WB), and sociability (SO). Four models we considered to validate the scale: confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM), bifactor CFA, and bifactor ESEM were employed to evaluate the factorial validity of the L2-TEI scale. The findings showed that ESEM provided more valid results than CFA with the best fitted model being the bifactor ESEM. The bifactor ESEM has substantiated four L2-TEI specific factors while accounting for the global factor of TEI. The test of criterion-related validity indicated that the structural bifactor ESEM explained 73 % of the variance in learner engagement as an outcome variable, with the global TEI and the specific factors of SO and WB being the predictors of language engagement. These findings support the validity of the L2-TEI scale for assessing students' TEI in the L2 domain. Finally, the findings highlight the imprtance of adopting specific trait emotional intelligence to understand students' language learning outcomes such as engagement.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":7141,"journal":{"name":"Acta Psychologica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2024-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142455559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigates the relationships among Achievement Recognition, Career Adaptability, and Organizational Seniority, focusing on their impact on the task performance of Chinese university teachers. A longitudinal, time-lagged survey design was employed, collecting data from 1444 Chinese university teachers over three waves, each one month apart. The survey included Achievement Recognition, Career Adaptability, and Task Performance measures, with Organizational Seniority as a moderating variable. Achievement Recognition significantly predicted Career Adaptability. The interaction between career adaptability and organizational seniority was significant, indicating that the positive effect of career adaptability on task performance varied with levels of organizational seniority. Conditional Effects were substantial. Career Adaptability positively affected Work Performance for individuals with less than five years of seniority but had a weaker effect for those with 11–15 years and an adverse effect for those with >21 years of seniority. The indirect impact of Achievement Recognition on Work Performance through Career Adaptability was significant for newly employed workers but non-significant for experienced workers. The study underscores the importance of Achievement Recognition in enhancing Career Adaptability and, subsequently, Work Performance. The moderating role of Organizational Seniority suggests that interventions to boost Career Adaptability and Work Performance should be tailored to different career stages. Consequently, research on health and safety in educational centers building is limited. This study aims to bridge this gap by investigating the factors influencing the implementation of a health and safety application in an engineering school building in the Philippines, using the dimensions of safety culture and the UTAUT framework. The research involved designing and executing the health & safety app using the affiliated MS 365 – Microsoft Power Apps, which was tested by 232 engineering students in Metro Manila. The obtained data were then analyzed using the Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) approach. The results indicated that the users' intention to use and perceived usability were crucial factors influencing their behavior towards the app. Additionally, performance expectancy and social influence affected their behavioral intentions towards the application. Moreover, the app's perceived usability and usage behavior significantly influenced users' overall participation in health and safety activities. This study stands as a unique contribution to the literature on safety culture in the academic sector. While Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is known to be effective for various body image disorders, its specific effects on individuals with MD have been less studied. This qualitative case series involved seven male participants, aged 35–55, all diagnosed with MD and with a history of anabolic steroid use, undergoing a 12-week manualized CBT intervention. The study aimed to explore how CBT impacts their body image perceptions, exercise behaviors, steroid use, and emotional responses. Data were collected through participant feedback during therapy sessions, with thematic analysis revealing significant shifts in body image perception and reductions in compulsive behaviors and steroid use. Despite these improvements, participants experienced feelings of loss and anxiety as they modified their routines, and some reported relapses under stress, indicating the chronic nature of MD. The findings suggest that CBT effectively reshapes cognitive and behavioral patterns in MD sufferers but also highlight the need for ongoing support to manage the disorder's emotional complexities and prevent relapses.
