The DMD method is used to estimate a linear model using a set of observed measurements. In this paper, a DMD-based assessment technique is proposed for distinguishing small-signal and transient stability which may be experienced as a result of small and large disturbances. To achieve this objective, time domain simulations for both linear and nonlinear models of two test systems are employed to highlight the difference between small-signal and transient response using DMD method. The main findings of this work show that the DMD method can accurately capture variations in collected measurements which correspond to the complicated nonlinear response of a power system to large disturbances. In addition, the DMD method can be effectively used in estimating the oscillatory parameter of poorly-damped modes oscillations.","PeriodicalId":69792,"journal":{"name":"中东研究","volume":"10 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87398357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The deployment of public EV parking lots (EVPLs) helps to tackle this issue by serving the charging demand of EV users with limited or no access to EVSE. Therefore, this paper presents a new planning model for grid-connected EVPLs aiming at determining the optimal number of uni-directional (UD) and bi-directional (BD) chargers to be installed in each EVPL. As distinguishable from the previously done research, the proposed method determines the number of installed BD chargers based on the benefits of the distribution network (DN) operator in terms of avoidable capacity costs. Numerical studies show the effectiveness of the proposed method in reducing the feeder branches and substation upgrade costs required for accommodating the new EVPL load to the power system.","PeriodicalId":69792,"journal":{"name":"中东研究","volume":"44 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81861465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As investment on the individual household level with a single owner is a well-established scheme, it is also necessary to involve the apartment buildings and multi-apartment blocks. However, some major challenges, such as the early phase of a regulatory framework and lack of demonstration projects which provide the methodology for joint investments and their profitability, hinder the development of joint PV investments. To overcome these obstacles, the paper models the joint investment in a PV system in the multi-apartment building based on realistic load and PV measurement data of 8 apartments located in Zagreb, Croatia focusing on different dynamic keys for PV production sharing and net-metering approaches. The results show that the 15-min net metering approach is less profitable compared to the monthly net metering approach resulting in a longer period of investment return for all types of dynamic keys. Moreover, it is shown that dynamics in key changes for energy sharing on monthly basis are sufficient to adequately distribute PV production among investors in both 15-min and monthly net metering.","PeriodicalId":69792,"journal":{"name":"中东研究","volume":"31 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84372545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is probably the most important for electric vehicles, but also for battery energy storage and even consumer electronics. Charging times can be reduced by using new battery materials, but also by using alternative charging strategies. This paper presents a novel method for quantifying battery’s ability to accept charge in some arbitrary time interval. The proposed method can be used to quickly and effectively compare different battery technologies, different charging strategies or any possible charging condition that might be adjusted, while taking into account battery’s charging ability throughout the entire state-of-charge range. This is achieved by introducing novel fast charging comparison metrics. The method is demonstrated by analyzing and comparing the fast charging ability of four lithium-ion battery cells of different chemistries. Input data are obtained experimentally, on a proprietary laboratory testbed.","PeriodicalId":69792,"journal":{"name":"中东研究","volume":"57 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89136137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study introduces a two-step approach for identifying the optimal location and sizing of CBs in a 34-bus radial distribution network. The proper allocation of CBs in distribution networks provides several benefits such as power loss reduction, boosting net savings, and improving feeders’ voltage profiles. The swarm optimization algorithm selected in this study is the Whale optimization Algorithm (WOA) to find the optimal sizing and allocation of capacitors in the proposed system. The first step in this study will find the fittest buses for capacitors allocation through the loss sensitivity indices and then the second step comes to optimally identify the best locations and sizes of CBs using the whale optimization algorithm. The optimal capacitor placement (OCP) problem considers minimizing the total cost comprising the active power loss cost, the capacitors purchase, and capacitors installation costs. Three cases are studied and compared, the uncompensated case (without reactive power compensation), the fixed capacitors, and the switched capacitors. The results showed the capability of WOA to improve the overall performance in terms of the annual cost, the percentage of energy loss reduction, and the net saving in ${$}$/year.","PeriodicalId":69792,"journal":{"name":"中东研究","volume":"1 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85565619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The hybrid system is located in Yanbu region in Saudi Arabia. Part of the vision of 2030 of Saudi Arabia is to use renewable energy sources to cover a portion of the total electricity production. The required energy to be produced by renewable energy sources is 850 MW for the vision of 2030. To meet such a requirement, a thorough study is carried out to investigate a potential solution. The purpose of this study is to design a hybrid system which contains battery storage and has the lowest cost. Ten different batteries were used for a comparison study to examine the hybrid system with the lowest cost. Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Energy Resources (HOMER) software was used to design the hybrid system. HOMER provides real time evaluation of power systems. The criteria used for decision making purpose are the net present cost (NPC), levelized cost of energy (COE), electricity production, initial capital cost, nominal battery capacity, and battery autonomy. In these systems, microgrids can proactively determine their policies and make intelligent decisions based on their own objectives. However, the current centralized energy market presents challenges for the facilitation of direct peerto-peer trading between microgrids, potentially restricting their ability to act proactively and make informed decisions. To address this issue, we propose a decentralized architecture to enable autonomous peer-to-peer trading in networked microgrids. This approach involves the modeling of peer-to-peer energy trading among microgrids as a partially observable Markov game, which is then solved using distributed deep reinforcement learning. Asynchronous proximal policy optimization, a specific algorithm of distributed deep reinforcement learning, is employed in a distributed setting to allow microgrids to effectively navigate the complex and competitive environment of peer-to-peer trading. peer-to-peer trading is also integrated with the physical network through the use of grid sensitivity analysis, which analyzes network constraints and transmission losses incurred during peerto-peer transactions. The proposed decentralized approach is evaluated using the CIGRE distribution network as a simulation environment, with the results demonstrating its effectiveness in facilitating market clearing for peer-to-peer energy trading.","PeriodicalId":69792,"journal":{"name":"中东研究","volume":"43 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72733656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lack of system inertia and damping properties leads to frequency instability issues. To overcome these issues, virtual inertia and damping are control concepts that effectively improve system inertia and damping by manipulating the active power of the controlled IBDG to ensure frequency stability in low-inertia systems. This paper aims to enhance the performance of virtual inertia and virtual damping emulation by adding a compensator to the virtual inertia and damping-based battery energy storage (BESS) control loops. The compensator speeds up the transient response, reduces the settling time and rise time, and, as a result, improves frequency regulation in terms of frequency nadir, overshoot, and oscillation. Moreover, the proposed compensator helps reduce the BESS-mandated size, thus lowering the initial cost. The particle swarm optimization technique is used to obtain the optimal parameters that minimize the frequency deviation and BESS size. A frequency dynamic control model with the proposed compensator is presented, considering a wide range of system operations. To assess the dynamic stability of the new proposed compensator, eigenvalues analysis, and time-domain simulation are given.","PeriodicalId":69792,"journal":{"name":"中东研究","volume":"366 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75176752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
