This wave represents a “precursor” of wave structure. Above mentioned wave have some parts inside the dielectric rod and near the rod surface. The field distribution for this wave inside the dielectric rod is a rhombus-shape and consists of cones similar to Cherenkov wavefront. A part of this wave propagates in free space near the dielectric surface with the speed of light in free space. This wave propagates along the waveguide with the speed of light in free space as a whole wave structure. Such a guided wave structure differs from conventional waveguide modes since it does not have the same transverse field distribution in any cross-section. First this effect was investigated as a wave structure created by a localized source inside the open dielectric waveguide. The aim of this paper is to consider excitation of such a wave in closed circular waveguide with a dielectric rod and explore the possibility to create some resonance devices using this wave type. For the calculations BOR-FDTD method was used with PML boundary conditions.","PeriodicalId":6504,"journal":{"name":"2016 9th International Kharkiv Symposium on Physics and Engineering of Microwaves, Millimeter and Submillimeter Waves (MSMW)","volume":"38 1","pages":"1-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85199613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed measurement setup is composed of coupled-line section sensor inserted in-between two identical Marchand baluns, which provide differential excitation to the sensor. The setup allows for measurement of dielectric samples of size as small as separation between sensor's coupled strips. The proposed sensor has been theoretically investigated and confirmed by EM simulations. Additionally, the utilized miniaturized Marchand balun has been manufactured and measured. The obtained results prove the usefulness of the presented approach.","PeriodicalId":6504,"journal":{"name":"2016 9th International Kharkiv Symposium on Physics and Engineering of Microwaves, Millimeter and Submillimeter Waves (MSMW)","volume":"17 1","pages":"1-3"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84537222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Four-wire measurement circuit on an alternating current with use of the semiconductor temperature sensor (semiconductor film resistance thermometer) in the whole temperature range is implemented. The dielectric losses in a number of low-loss materials were measured in the millimeter wavelength range and a wide temperature range by using the designed unit. The classification of basic metamaterial structures for microwave applications with their characteristic properties and features is offered. Main disadvantages of the first metamaterial structures and ways of overcoming them are examined. Main approaches to design composite metamaterial structures with double-negative material properties are summarized and their distinctive features are considered. As well, relevance and applicability of such structures in microwave engineering are discussed with giving examples of these concepts in practical applications, particularly in waveguides and antennas technologies.","PeriodicalId":6504,"journal":{"name":"2016 9th International Kharkiv Symposium on Physics and Engineering of Microwaves, Millimeter and Submillimeter Waves (MSMW)","volume":"19 1","pages":"1-3"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75057695","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
