The classification of basic metamaterial structures for microwave applications with their characteristic properties and features is offered. Main disadvantages of the first metamaterial structures and ways of overcoming them are examined. Main approaches to design composite metamaterial structures with double-negative material properties are summarized and their distinctive features are considered. If the lighting is deficient, the information present in the image is hidden for the Human Vision System (HVS), such that the color and detail characteristics introduce values with low luminance. As a solution for this lighting problem, the Multiscale-Retinex (MSR) algorithm is proposed, based on the understanding of how the HVS interprets and adapts the perception of colors. This solution can be used as a preprocessing stage to correct the lack of an adequate lighting source like the standard illuminant D65 (light source with similar characteristics to midday sunlight). The MSR algorithm increase the chromatic content of the image, this improves the objects visibility in the scene. Fabry-Perot open resonator is formed by axially symmetric mirrors with coupling elements in the form of holes. Connected to the resonator polarization diplexers with more than 40 dB isolation between channels of orthogonal polarization signals allow to detect the lifting of the degeneracy at weak violations of axial symmetry. It is shown that anisotropic thin dielectric film located in the plane of the caustic waist of the resonance mode, lifts the degeneracy of orthogonally polarized modes. The obtained permittivity value was applied to designing of low aberration large aperture aspheric dielectric lens and dielectric waveguide rod antenna. These components composed the antenna system for the passive radiometric imaging in 90-100 GHz frequency range.
